That’s a bit unsettling. I am not much of a Reddit user, so was unaware of these. I just had my own doubts/suspicions based on the unit I had in my possession.

is the bottom line, the 2018 are having key board issues?

I can't speak for how widespread it is. There is maybe some evidence that suggests it is still an issue from a handful of examples here and on Redit. With my own use case, I am not convinced it is fixed. But that's a very small sample size, so make of it what you will. Long term use will bear it out one way or the other.

Edit: There were some conflicting reports from Apple as to whether or not the silicone barrier did or did not address the butterfly keyboard issues. Supposedly it prevents the ingress of dust and debris, though I believe iFixit and others have shown it still eventually makes its way in any way. That said I only had mine 10 days before it began to act up, so whatever was wrong with it, it wasn't dust or debris related.

The story about the Better Touch Tool Founder and the balcony still cracks me up though. Think Different, just not outside?

will the new barrier also keep debris from getting back out?
