I’m assuming Apple will make _all_ three iPhones with the more efficient wireless charging, but I also could see them making maybe this an exclusive feature to the 6.5 iPhone X Plus as a selling point. This should be interesting to see what they decide to do in this situation.

Copper is not gold, and, even if billions of iPhones with copper coils in them are made, the cost per will be small; Apple will inflate the cost per just because it can.

The copper is not going to be diverted from other (essential) use, just more of the existing stock used by Apple. There is no global shortage of copper, unlike cobalt, and its price is at the lower end of the 52-week price, and about 60% of what it was about a decade ago.

An aside note, from what I have seen of housing construction in the last two decades, builders are going cheap by using plastic based pipes for water pipes small and large, saving anywhere between $200-500 per house. A nice thing to note with mining stocks still in the dumps.

House piping uses copper pipes for about a foot if not less and then PEX from there. Even cooper electrical wires is not using that much. All these companies just inflate the price 10 fold. I know this because I had a contractor replace a hot water heater and the company charged me 10 times the price. I visited the local Home Depot and proved that their were over charging me for the same brand. I got excuses why their pipes were better and so on. Cooper pipes have a base standard, and remember companies pay much less compared to a consumer for parts and materials.

Apple will get the cooper at a significant discount, I hear there are negotiating with other parts manufacturers for a lower price for certain items. I guess their plan on passing those savings to the customer. /s

Why can’t Apple just provide the option of a different size screen, vice playing games with the upsell. There are people who want a larger screen and other not so, why compromise unless Apple does not have faith that the larger iPhone X plus will sell well.

I have a 12.9” iPad Pro, if the 10.5” iPad Pro had something extra that was not available on the 12.9” I would still buy the larger screen version as it is a replacement for my MBP. This was the reason why people want a 17” MBP as it is a desktop replacement, however Apple knows better and only offers a 15” as the largest option. Still miss my 17” MBP.

One thing that slightly worries me is that in terms of processor bumps, wasn't last year the "S" (big jump in performance) year? I always got the S models as they had a greater longevity than non-S models (the 3GS chugged along while iOS 4 killed the 3G, the 64 bit processor in the 5S made it run great for years, iOS 11 basically killed the iPhone 6, but the 6S runs like a champ, and next to the 8, the 7 has aged very quickly.) Will the A12 be one of the big jumps that allows my phone to run great for years, or will the big jump in performance come next year? Or, final third option - are we past the era of big jumps and will see modest improvements from here on out? The X coming out on an "S" year has made things complicated for me.

Yes. The A12 will be good for a long period (in device years.) 7nm and once things are optimized nicely you’ll see a 20%+ bump over the A11. :apple:

Should of been using copper in the first place, the reason they didn’t was to skimp on cost.

man, this is the area apple sucks.

wireless charging since samsung S4 days with cover. S6 edge days with fast wireless charging and 9w max hard limit. Apple still trying to figure out how to wireless charge, lol!

Just copy how samsung is doing it!

They’re probably not trying to figure it out but doing it deliberately.

It's really ridiculous how Apple messes these things up. They're 5 years late on Qi and now they realise they haven't put copper in? Every other manufacturer has done this year ago. You can charge a Samsung twice as fast in 2015 than you can charge an iPhone in 2018.
But hey - just spend another $1000 this year to get the real real iPhone X/8. The one we should have released last year.

You do realise you missed out on the last S, right?

After the 6S came the 7. The "7S" just happens to be called 8.

I returned the X as it wasn’t worth it to me. So no, I didn’t miss it, I just didn’t want it.

I agree with you on the S versions having the better longevity.

But with TSMC’s 7nm process we can expect some pretty big things in terms of performance increases this year. As it’s quite an impressive process over what’s come before. Question is, how conservative will Apple be with using their transistor/clock budget.

I’m hoping Intel’s XMM 7560 is a good improvement over last years slightly lacking modem, I’d still rather have a Qualcom X20. Also Band 71 support hopefully.
Yeah Qualcomm's X20 should be able to reach 2Gbps max speeds. That's double what the Snapdragon 835 could achieve and double what Intel’s XMM 7560 should achieve.

You have no idea

Care to explain or elaborate how I have no idea about what!

I provided some stats and can back them up with market figures - and all you have is something incomprehensible. I can't comprehend if you are supporting my statement or opposing it.

Copper is dirt cheap, at the lowest but one level of metals used in Apple products, above Aluminum.

Which cellphone companies use copper currently?

Do any of the major computer manufacturers use copper heat sinks in a majority their products?

I am, I expected wireless charging to be fast on my X. Rarely use it, as I have the Apple fast chargers that charger it a lot fasters instead. Until wireless charging charges just as fast, don't get the rational to use it.

Is anybody else let down by Apples late and lacklustre wireless charging? They held off for 5 years, driving speculation we should get some Apple revolution solution to wireless charging. What do we get? Qi.

Wake me up with WiTricity ranges become standard.

Makes sense that it’s for the 6´5" inch model, the oled panel and 0,4" inch larger screen might not be enough to get people to shell out the big bucks, rather than just buying the 6’1inch. I’m prepared for extra camera capabilities, faster wireless charging and more ram being exclusive to the most expensive model to sweeten the deal.

Do some basic googling before you post dude. You have no clue
