Thinking of upgrading, so this issue in concerning.

Hey Jeff, do I remember you from Apple-TV thread over at AVSForums ?

Yeah, that's me. Been a while since I've stopped by AVS... Mainly 'cause there's much new or exciting about the ATV lately. Hopefully, that will change soon!

I'm sure Apple will get the T2/Bridge OS thing sorted out... eventually.

What I don't care for about the T2 chip is unlike my 2017 MBP, I can't turn on File Vault because I have to blind password using a eGPU, I can't encrypt a Carbon Copy Clone for it will not recognize for a Start UP disk in boot drive.

So T2 was supposed to be added security but I don't have File Vault on or Decrypted my backups. So I had to do something different with my personal files unlike my previous many Macs I have had.
I am using CCC to backup my mini. Did you follow the procedure to 1) Give CCC access under Preferences 2) Boot into Security options and change the setting to allow for boot from external drive?

Yes. And lots of us (myself included) do have issues.

Oh and that reminds me:

7.) Don’t put mini to sleep as waking it up can cause static issues over HDMI.
I’m not sure what you read into my reply. You made a list of things that cause problems anf]d I am pointing out that there are two machine doing just that without problems. It might be some other combination that leads to issues. Please excuse me for trying to help.

I don't think you were helping! :)

I mean, great for you if you have specific hardware that does work fine with your mini, right? If you make even a cursory glance down the mini forum, you'll see numerous threads full of people with a bunch of issues with the mini. They're easily replicable, too. So by posting that you don't have an issue with two monitors, - it doesn't help anyone.

Mac mini 2018 Bluetooth issues?

Mac Mini (2018) Serious Monitor Issue

2018 mac mini - Blank screen on wake from sleep

2018 Mac Mini Static after sleep awakening

These are just SOME of the many, many issues the mini has. I'd mentioned before - I've had every single mini Apple has ever released, and by far the 2018 has the most issues of any of them.

Again, it's great for you that you don't have issues with your simple setup, but it's really not particularly helpful to say your setup doesn't have issues. Heck, just to be less vague, do you want to know what would be more helpful? Maybe if you said exactly which model of displays you/your husband were using? Then prospective buyers would know what's a "safe" purchase in terms of reliability.

Then again, if we're having to post "compatible" monitors with the 2018 mini, that kind of goes a long way toward showing that the mini indeed does have issues. And that's just sad.

I did, my problem is when I boot to it, then turn on file vault for the CCC, it wants to do a restart, it will restart but not able to use CCC for start up. it will not boot from the CCC after I turn on VF. It will show its encrypted but unusable after this point.

I have to format the drive again and CCC non encrypted in order to boot from it.

Edit:
I follow the same procedure for my 2017 MBP with no issues.

It should just need to be formatted as APFS to work: https://bombich.com/kb/ccc5/help-my-clone-wont-boot#t2_encrypted_hfs

Update: CCC has an update. And sure enough it fixes the T2 encryption issue. I updated, ran CCC and then booted from the CCC disk, enabled FV and all is good. I can still use CCC as a boot disk while it is encrypted.

I also enabled FV on my Apple, Apple still needs to fix the eGPU with the mini having to blind password at start up. I am doing that now and it is not that difficult but it is unnecessary. Hopefully it is a fix in the near future.

Edit: The eGPU and blind password when using FV is not a T2 thing. I have the same issue with my MBP 2017 and using FV when connected to the eGPU. I am not sure if it is a Mojave thing or would happen in High Sierra as well.

I missed:
6.) Don’t use multiple hard drives or the system will crash on shut down and auto reboot with a crash log referencing Bridge OS.

This is the exact issue I was trying to sort out on my new 2018 Mac mini. Thought it was T2 related with the crash log referring to Bridge OS. Where have you seen people talking about this issue? I haven't seem to have found any discussion of it until now.

Thanks!

No update yet. I was hoping it would be fixed in 10.14.4, but no dice...

I wanna know if this update (macOS Catalina 10.15.5) will fix this issue that I get a message everyday when I start-up Mac mini 2018(Mojave 10.14.6):

{"caused_by":"unknown","macos_system_state":"running","bug_type":"210","os_version":"Bridge OS 4.4

thanks
