Does Mac Mini suffer performance running 4K monitors without a eGPU?
If I am viewing 4K videos through iTunes, do I need a eGPU?

I have AOC 40" curved 4K monitor that I want to use with Mac Mini 2018. It's the first Mac Mini I purchased. I have been using Macbook Pro's all these years and am very familiar with MBP. But when it comes to Mac Mini, I am a newbie.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Edited to add:
I have i7/256GB/32GB RAM (I've upgraded from 8GB myself).

I would jump on them in a heartbeat if not for them being VA panels. Just like you, I want a 43" for that extra real estate. For me it's reading & writing code and it will be sitting on my desk. So I'm concerned about the viewing angle of the VA panel because I suspect I'll be looking at portions of the screens at an angle given its large size.

You're probably aware of this already, but just in case, there's tons of great info here at RTINGS.COM - and VA is specifically addressed. Not sure in my case 43" screen viewed from ~24" away is going to suffer from that too much. But I also haven't really considered that issue before, interesting. 14% is a VA referenced on the RTINGS site for 4K being used as PC monitor.

Thanks! That's nice to hear.

I was thinking of getting an eGPU but I guess there is no need since I don't do anything intense in terms of GPU requirement.

I’ve done a variety of things with my 40” Samsung chroma 4-4-4 at uhd and don’t see stutter and the dot pitch (100?) is great for me. Screen is about 18-24” from me. I’ve done some fcp non 4k editing and handbrake converting. Looking for limits but not finding any. My 5400 Rpm external data drive and 8 gb memory also don’t seem to affect performance. Perhaps things will slow down as it gets older and clogged with cache and old files? It’s only 4 months so far.
