Does anyone think they will time the release of 4 core in the 13 inch with the introduction of a better battery to compensate for perhaps more battery drain? I imagine they may want to do this to keep it at about 10 hrs expected battery life. Perhaps 4 core wont be much more of a battery drain? I just don't know enough about it.

How much do individual CPU specimens vary? The MacBook's dual core in mine seems to be capable of running above its base frequency for a reasonably extended period. Presumably due to heat issues, it does not seem to be able to reach its full 3.0 GHz turbo frequency, but it can sustain a higher frequency than I imagined it would when I purchased it. Is there significant variation among individual m3 chips?

That's almost the exact same behaviour for all of the 2017 models. They all seem to fluctuate at around 2.5-2.6 GHz sustained. Here is my m3, but the i5 and i7 show the same graph.

However, if you play close attention, for a split second at the beginning you can get the graph to approach 3 GHz. The caveat though is the app has not been optimized to work with 2017 Kaby Lake chips, so we don't actually know if it's 100% accurate. (The a macOS app hasn't been updated since 2016.)

I don't know and frankly I don't care.

Intel makes millions of these chips and is a supplier to thousands of companies. How picky do you think Apple is about component quality compared to other companies?

Following my perception of Apple and their attention to detail, design tolerances, etc., my guess is the variance between individual CPUs is very small, nothing that would be noticeable in everyday use.

My biggest want would be addition of True Tone display, though not sure how likely that is.

My guess is that it will remain a “Pro” feature. Given Intel’s timeline, we may not see an updated MacBook until 2019. Whether it is a “major” update or just a spec bump remains to be seen.

All I want is a 6 core 32 gig of RAM MacbookPro. IS that too much to ask? Lighter and slimmer with more emojis is not going to impress me.

That’s actually pretty likely.

Specific power of lithium ion improves something like 7% year on year. Couple that with a 10nm die shrink and slightly lower clocks then I don’t think power consumption will be much of an issue. Will likely lack hyperthreading.
