And far fewer have anywhere to go on a Sunday morning, right?

Who gets up at 6AM on a Sunday? I realize people go to Church, but I don't believe most of those are that early. Also, you have the rest of the day to do nothing and catch up on sleep while you can't really do that at work.

Why make it a holiday, seems kind of odd to make a sporting event a holiday. I get that its important for a segment of the population but its not that important.
Superbowl Sunday is probably the only unofficial national holiday. I can see the league eventually pushing the game back in February to line it up with Presidents Day.

Again for some, but I can safely say in one of my social circle its not a huge deal. I get what you're saying and I'm not denying its a big event, but its not a national event that impacts everyone.

Just my opinion on the whole Super Bowl celebration thing, it’s overrated and overhyped. The game can be exciting (Especially if it’s a team favorite for a fan) however, haven’t the halftime show viewer ratings have been down year after year for the last three years or something like that?

Anyways, I question how much viewers ‘tune in’ to the Super Bowl for the actual game versus their real interest in wanting to see the commercials. I think the commercials seem to have more notoriety than the Super Bowl itself does. It would be interesting to read the analytics

Not me! I get up at 4:30 on most Sundays (and Saturdays). Bible study is at 9, worship at 10. (the drive is 30 minutes) On weekdays, I get up at 3:30. I leave for work between 6:20 and 6:30. I'm a morning person I guess. I'm in bed by 9 most nights.

Now, back to the NFL... ;)

Not sure if it’s true or an urban legend, but I’ve heard that the Monday after the Super Bowl has been the most missed/skipped/called in sick day from work for many years.

I’d be ok with moving it to Presidents weekend, but we don’t need another holiday.

The NFL would never do that, because a lot of people use that weekend to travel. They would be competing with peoples travel plans for viewership.... And most casual fans and folks who just tune in because it's the superbowl are not cancelling their travel plans or weekend getaway.

I'm still not grasping why this should be a thing. I mean kickoff is at 6:30pm (EST), so the game will end around 10-ish, which is not late (even by my standards :) ), its not like people will be heading into work the following monday after being up till 2:00am

Yeah, hadn't thought about that. Also, it is a month after the conference championship games which is too long.

We are heading home today from Broken Arrow,Ok to HOUSTON and will stop at Kilgore, Tx to watch the Superbowl with members of the Mahomes clan. My wife is a second cousin through marriage. I suppose I’ll be rooting for KC. ;)

I haven’t had a chance to really Watch the game due to work, but surprisingly how close it is to halftime, as I thought it would be significantly a higher scoring game. Defensively, both teams are stifling each other from some of the quick-recap highlights.

Still pullin’ for the 9ers.

Oh, and I hear the commercials suck...again. 😁

Pretty boring so far. Mahomes still dancing around, doing his tricks. Where's the 49ers defense? They have to hit him hard a couple of times, scare him. Oh and offensive pass interference...

Oh well, that's it. Boring game overall and a bunch of bad referee calls decided it in favour for the Chiefs. Good for the NFL though, a team from the 1st super bowl wins the 100th season.

Congrats to KC. 21 years as a NFL coach for Reid, and finally nailed it. What a milestone.

Glad to see Reid finally win one. This is Mahomes league now.

Fourth quarter made up for a boring first half.

Good game! :)
