Apple would give me £140 for my iPad (2018) WiFi + Cellular, taking the new iPad down to £189.

Do you reckon £189 is worth it for:
- A12
- larger screen
- at least 1GB more RAM
- potential for using Smart Keyboard

This should be called the iPad SE. The new air should be called iPad and then you have the iPad Pro line. iPad Air used to be the the thinner and lighter version of the iPad but now it’s nearly identical to the Pro line.
Agree. Also, I would love if Apple had offered this iPad with a laminated and True Tone screen for the same $329. I would snap one up in a heart beat.

Honestly, I know this isn't "iPad - Baller Edition", but I'm more than pleased with my iPad 7th Gen as my mobile daily driver, and I'll be getting the 8th Gen for the processor upgrade, and the 7th will go to my daughter. It's a great device for a great price, and I'm happy Apple continues to evolve it.

32GB is just too low.

Customers who get by just fine with 32GB:
- Corporations whose employees run a few custom enterprise apps, calendar, mail, and little else that requires local storage
- "Regular" people who only use it to play a few games, read their mail, message, browse the web, and take photos at special occasions and little else (i.e. our parents who are used to only bringing the camera out for birthdays, holidays, vacations, and don't have the desire to take daily selfies, instagram every meal, etc.)
- Schools where student work is stored on iCloud

The above groups encompass a lot of people.

The new Air isn't particularly interesting, either. It's just the 11" iPad Pro, without the 120hz screen but with TouchID instead of FaceID. And the new iPhone A14 chip, instead of the A12x/z. It's also $100 too expensive, in my opinion.

It's just a spec bump update for a device that cost 329$. They are supposed to be nothing special.

I don't know why everyone is expecting more than this or disappointed it wasn't more than this. We want Apple to be doing these spec bumps ever year instead of waiting for redesigns every 3-4 years with no updates like they did with Mac mini, Mac Pro, iPad mini, iPod, etc.

I'm okay with this even tho I agree with 32gb being a bit too small for now. I hope 64gb is next in the spec bump update.

The entire industry needs to stop the method of upselling folks by gimping on storage. If the next model up is 256gb but the base is 32gb, you can definitely afford to go with 64 or 128gb base.

There's a lot more different between the new iPad Air and 2020 iPad Pro than I originally thought

And a one more good thing about a regular iPad is its not so fragile and bendable that you are afraid to let it leave your home.

I think many people working in education will disagree. Chrome has such a head start and still offers more support, lower prices etc. Where do you run schools?
No greater fleecing of the taxpayers than bamboozling school boards into purchasing apple products.

I'm upgrading from a Mini 4 to the iPad Gen 8 -- there are times I just need a bigger screen, and since I'm working from home full time now, portability isn't an issue. I got $105 trade-in for my mini, applied for Apple Card for the cash back and 12-month financing (~$17/mo), and mine is already scheduled to be delivered on September 22 (much earlier than the October dates they offered when I placed the order).

The new Air is sleek, but way out of my price range, and way above my needs.

I ordered mine, upgrading from iPad pro 10.5 while using same keyboard, pencil and cover. So no need to invest on accessories, and getting better performance and more storage (went for storage upgrade as well)

That spongey non-laminated display is a huge step-down, especially for Apple Pencil users. I'm not sure it will feel like much of an upgrade, but hopefully you are satisfied.

That pro still has pencil 1 and pencil is only being used very rarely.
Thanks, well sold it for the same price, and battery was showing its age.

To me the cost of upgrade to so called magic keyboard or pencil 2 is excessive when there is no real need to, so will hold on to the accessories as much as possible and now that seem to be the only option.

You realize your iPad Pro 10.5 is a better iPad, right?

You could have tried to find stock for the 3rd gen iPad Air which would at least work with the old pencil and have a much nicer display. Especially if you could live with 64GB of storage. You'll probably forget about the non-laminated display after awhile using the 2020 iPad though. :)

Yes, but that is still a lot more expensive, the price is appealing on this iPad compared to the rest of the line. It is not my main computer, only use in the evening, so hopefully will be fine.

Arguably, I could have paid apple to change the battery on my pro to prolong a little bit more, costing the same

I already ordered one of these. I REALLY wanted the new iPad Air, but I just couldn't justify $600. I did upgrade to the 128GB model. I can't wait until early October!
Already ordered mine from expercom.
Took my son’s 6th gen and made him use my mini4 because I am losing my eyesight, but mini4 is even too small for him with some educational apps, so glad I waited. Now I will have a speedy base iPad and I can give him the 6th gen back.

Apple did the bare minimum for the 8th gen iPad. I mean they don't even bother putting bluetooth 5 on it. It's still on bluetooth 4.2. That means they literally still use the old board and just put the A12 chip in instead of using the 3rd gen Air's internals. Very underwhelming.
Oh wow. I missed that part, I just assumed with the A12 is would have Bluetooth 5.0 as well (since every other device with an A11 or newer has Bluetooth 5.0).
