Hamilton has always shown exceptional talent regardless of what racing car he’s been in, he’s just one of those types of drivers. If we look at any era in F1 there has been a dominant or better car and it usually wins. I think the recent exceptions where perhaps the best car didn’t win were 2007 and 2008 where bizarrely due to versions reasons the best team/car combo finished second. We’ve had no problem in the past worshipping the likes of Schumacher, Senna and Prost who showed exceptional talent in the best car and right now I truly feel Hamilton is the most complete driver on the grid in the best car. Fortune and talent usually combine into a winning formula.

I admit, it can be boring if the driver at the top isn’t your favourite and I felt like this throughout the Schumacher and Vettel years. However, you have to acknowledge the achievement for what it is. :)
Agree. Especially in the past when two of those top drivers you mention were at the same team! Couldn’t really see that in today’s teams.
One team always exploit the new technology and the others take their time to catch up. It doesn’t help when there is such a mismatch in budgets (but hasn’t that always been the case?), or when the second team (Ferrari) end up going down an illegal path. Once that’s been taken away, they have a gap to the front. Due to the short season, that gap might not be worth correcting.

Definitely yeah. Remember the days with Williams and McLaren had qualifying engines and Good Year developed qualifying tyres just for the teams that could afford them? It’s been dictated by massive budgets for decades, however it doesn’t always guarantee success. Toyota were the wealthiest team on the grid and failed to secure a race win. A lot of that is to do with the Japanese management system but still.

Of course crashes, coming together, spins etc adds to the excitement, but F1 isn't just about the drivers on the track. There's an incredible amount of effort from an enormous amount of people in each team.

So as much for those behind the scenes as the guys on the track, I hate to see all their efforts end in an anti climax on the first lap. I'd rather see others get their **** together than someone wreck their car.

that isn't going to happen on race day...

When the lights go green, Lewis and the mighty Mercedes are likely to come out on top.
There has always been a dominant team. Yes Mercedes have extended that run over a long period. It helps that they have the best driver.
I realise he’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But with 90 pole positions, it’s hard to argue he’s anything other than exceptional over one lap.
Hoping for a good showing from McLaren and Williams. They did well yesterday.

I fixed it for you...

lol

i do.

it hasn't paid off too well, has it?

I wonder if Albon will be yet another good driver used as a scapegoat and demoted out of that team? Red Bull are not famed for their patience and accountability.

Honestly, I feel like Albon is on the verge of being brilliant. But, he either needs the likes of Mercedes or another team.
Not a fan of Christian Horner.

What can you say , this and next seasons are a throw away in regards to the WDC WCC , the only hope i have for a fight for the title (WDC only) is to get Lewis some real competition , I miss Nico on that other Merc , 2016 was a great season on the WDC side even though the WCC was the worst it ever gotten.
My top wish is to have different teams going for wins , but if we cannot get that , at least Merc could give us a real WDC fights , the sport does need to retain or increase his viewers , and i cant see how a season with Merc only wins AND Lewis squashing Bottas again (which I believe we are headed to) is taking us to that place , put Max vs Lewis , WCC for Merc and AMAZING racing at the front , it will also make Lewis that undeniable GOAT if he beats Max , even Seb vs Lewis will be much more fun to watch , and i dont think Seb will do any worse then Bottas , and I dont even like Seb ......

TLDR - going to be a boring season with me hoping for rain/accidents to give any team other then Merc a chance to win a race.

That Merc is just ridiculous. Hamilton lapped nearly the whole field even with an extra pit stop. 2022 can't come quickly enough.

I’ve got a feeling Lewis will break Schumacher’s record this year and then have one final season next year to try and get an eighth. He’ll retire very happy and still be young enough to try other ventures lol.
You mean the race wins this year? Can only tie the Titles record this year. As long as he's got a good car, I can't see him retiring anytime soon. He'll want to see what the 2022 rule changes bring.

Yeah I meant overall stats like races wins. He’s hinted at retiring in recent years but then I don’t get the impression he’s interested in having a family so he may stay longer, who knows.

He has, but more recently he's repeatedly said he's happier and hungrier than ever racing. He probably won't admit it, but he'll want to set records that will last for a long, long time.

And while always giving maximum focus on track, it's never stopped him doing all sorts in between races. His haters can suck it for a while yet. 😂

If that’s the case then great. I can imagine he’ll want to break the records, that’s what drives every racing driver, modest or not. I don’t pay too much attention to ‘haters’ to be honest. I’m too old for that.

Wish we’d had a bit of rain during the race. Great drive by Max (if you forget driving to the grid!). Lewis has a pit stop in hand on everyone. In that car it’s hard to see the title go anywhere else this year.

I believe the real question is why do we keep watching...

I've been watching since the late 1980s so I've seen McLaren dominate, then Williams, then Benetton, then Williams (again), then Ferrari, then Renault, then Ferrari (again), then Red Bull and now Mercedes.

I still find it the most interesting auto-sport from a technical perspective, even if the racing has generally been dull due to the domination of one team/driver combination. That being said, it was nice when we saw Brawn pull off a WCC with Button, but even then, they did so because the car had a unique technical advantage (the double diffuser). Once everyone else had the same, the team struggled for a time even with the financial backing of Mercedes until they secured Lewis and Toto Wolff.
