Agree. Especially in the past when two of those top drivers you mention were at the same team! Couldn’t really see that in today’s teams.Hamilton has always shown exceptional talent regardless of what racing car he’s been in, he’s just one of those types of drivers. If we look at any era in F1 there has been a dominant or better car and it usually wins. I think the recent exceptions where perhaps the best car didn’t win were 2007 and 2008 where bizarrely due to versions reasons the best team/car combo finished second. We’ve had no problem in the past worshipping the likes of Schumacher, Senna and Prost who showed exceptional talent in the best car and right now I truly feel Hamilton is the most complete driver on the grid in the best car. Fortune and talent usually combine into a winning formula.
I admit, it can be boring if the driver at the top isn’t your favourite and I felt like this throughout the Schumacher and Vettel years. However, you have to acknowledge the achievement for what it is.![]()
One team always exploit the new technology and the others take their time to catch up. It doesn’t help when there is such a mismatch in budgets (but hasn’t that always been the case?), or when the second team (Ferrari) end up going down an illegal path. Once that’s been taken away, they have a gap to the front. Due to the short season, that gap might not be worth correcting.
