I am tempted to upgrade just because i want the 12.9"model.Although i love my 2018 11" iPad Pro,i have always regretted not getting the larger size.Still thinking about it.

wifi 6 just totally sucks, what is the hype anyway? lower prices, who needs em? Ram, meh! cameras bah, better GPU. just crap.

It is an update, but hardly useless, all of the upgrades are in fact very good. Damn that coronavirus or their might be an even faster Soc, but never should have botched the testing!

And that worthless LiDAR sensor, so people can play an improved version of Poekemon Go, because that's what AR is all about? Meh!

It’s not like the 2020 iPad Pro needed a wideband chip that isn’t even being used in the iPhone Pro‘s now. I understand the notion of future proofing, but using an iPad to do pinpoint tracking doesn’t even make a whole lot of sense. It’s one thing when holding an iPhone to make minute adjustments side to side or up and down, but doing that holding an iPad, especially the larger 12.9”, would be strange and look weird.

I love my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9”, and now with iPadOS 13.4, it’s even more of a beast. Just saw a comparison between the 2020 and the new 2020 MBA 13” and the iPad is definitely the better performer, especially compared to the base i3 version of the MBA. I ordered a new MBA for one of my kids and will do some comparisons when it delivers, but I’m more than happy with my iPad Pro (bought in January 2019) and won’t consider upgrading unless Apple make some significant changes to it later this year or early next year.

Frankly the bigger update that "came along with" the 2020 iPad Pro for me was trackpad support / new kb-trackpad coming out in May. I love that it'll work with the 2018 iPad Pro.

As someone who has the 2017 10.5 iPad Pro, sweet spot for me may be to buy a used 2018 11" iPad Pro at a likely bigger discount now that 2020 iPad Pro out, and then get the kb-trackpad once it's released.

meh. I wanted to get a new iPad this year...guess not

Me too, I'm still on the 10.5. I still think It is a good upgrade, however part of me thinks another 1k on something that is no different from last model. Although I won't be going for the cellular one anyway.

Its funny seeing people attempt to deflect/defend this...

This is even worse than the 16" MBP release.

lol TWO new iPad Pro version in the same year?

In the words of David Lynch: Get REEL (real)

Insofar as the most frequent use of the U1 and UWB capability will likely be precision location, one would not normally haul an iPad around for that; one would use a more portable iPhone (unless of course one misplaced that; but "Find My" can make an iPhone produce a sound, which for all but the hearing impaired is good enough).

UWB has other uses (fast line-of-sight file transfer, maybe eventually as a key fob), but there are other alternatives for those I know of for which one would choose to use an iPad.

So even in a more major device refresh than this was, I'm not sure I see much reason to object to the absence of UWB capability on an iPad.

Maybe so... but for a relatively minor update, it would have been nice to demonstrate effort and try encourage more uptake.
I still bought the 12.9 model, because I don’t have one and didn’t want to wait, though if I had a previous 12.9, I absolutely would not upgrade.

So basically the latest iPad Pros are in the same situation as the ill-fated iPad 3.

I was thinking exactly this. I was so bummed when I learned that my iPad 3 was exactly the same as an iPad 2, performance-wise. The GPU was bumped to handle a retina display.... and that was it.

It's also why I didn't go for the Apple Watch S5. I was going to go from the S2 to the S5.... until I learned that the S5 was pretty much the same performance as the S4. If the S6 is a respectable increase in performance, I'll finally upgrade.

I really don't get why Apple even bothered. The new iPad has almost nothing so if there is big update coming this fall then why doing this in the first place?
Anyway, I'll wait for fall then :)
Not buying it until the structural integrity is improved :)

Presumably to get the LIDAR sensor out there for devs ahead of it coming to the iPhone?

Plus all models now have 6GB RAM.... Which could be for a number of interesting reasons.

I’m interested in knowing what you think is wrong with the structural integrity though? 🤔

Hopefully that is the case, but Apple does a really good job of keeping prices on previous models high as to not cannibalize sales of the new model. I always think of how they stopped selling the iPhone X when the XS came out.

Structural integrity? No offense but that comment makes you sound like you’ve been watching YouTube videos more than actually owning a 2018 pro. 😉

The last thing the big Pro needs is another plastic window on its side. However, it would make great copy for JerryRigEverything.

This new iPad Pro made me go on ebay and buy a 12.9" 3rd gen for half the price. Worth it.

This is smart.

For the others waiting until fall, I would prepare yourselves to extend that wait until Spring 2021. With the current state of business operations at Apple I could see a lot of products in the pipeline start to push back in their schedules. The iPhones in the fall will be Apple's sole focus for the second half of the year. Also, they'll need to keep moving on designing the 2021 and 2022 phones. iPad hardware will always be second fiddle to the iPhone and that's why I don't expect another iPad Pro update this year.
