I bet Apple only released this so that developers could adapt their apps to take advantage of the LIDAR sensor and extra RAM(new iPad Pro has 6GB on all variants now), in preparation for iPhone 12 Pro getting the same treatment, 6GB RAM + LIDAR sensor.

Or, Apple will do another refresh in October 2020, adding U1 chip, an A13X or even A14X CPU, and 5G. Meaning that this iPad Pro is only a stop-gap measure to keep sales going.
It is said they will update it with A14X and 5G come end of the year but i guess it depends if people class that as a good upgrade or not. All it would be is a faster chip.

I don’t buy 2nd hand and quite frankly the prices aren’t much different and I wanted 128GB which the new model has and more ram.

Refurbished and 2nd hand aren’t always great options
You can find great deals on “New” 2018 models that are cheaper than Apple Refurbished. For example: if you have a Micro Center near, you can get a ”New” 2018 256gb 11 inch IPP for $629. Apple is selling the same refurbished for $679. They are starting to price the 2018’s aggressively to clear them out.

Well For one I’m based in UK and needed a 12.9. Plus for what I use it for work wise the extra Amount of ram has been very useful. If I’m going to be spending £800+ on a device I would much rather it be the newest model personally. If i knew there was a 12.9 2018 model for £600-£700 I properly would have gone down that route Refurbished wise

How has the extra RAM helped your workflow? Just curious.

I am tempted to upgrade just because i want the 12.9"model.Although i love my 2018 11" iPad Pro,i have always regretted not getting the larger size.Still thinking about it.

I'm in a similar boat. But I'm thinking about selling my 11' 2018 and getting a refurb 12.9" with 4g.

I want the wireless version, but wouldn't buy a new 4G device that I plan on keeping for 4-5 years. In 2020 it should have had 5G.

5G is one big reason why I’m waiting to upgrade my 10.5” to 11”.
