I would buy an iPad without camera. Never use it on mine.

It’s actually great for AR, document scanning, adding reference photos to illustration software.... and, you know, taking photos and videos. I’m glad it’s there, though the bump is a bit annoying.

All those things work with iPhone, too, which usually has a better camera. Nice thing about iOS is I can use my iPhone to take pics that are automatically available on my Mac and iPhone. So add me to the list of folks who would happily forgo the rear iPad cameras.

As a 2018 iPad Pro owner, you are not really part of the main target market for the 2019 iPad Pro.

Says who? Iphone users tend to upgrade every year. And as someone who has ditched their laptop for an ipad years ago, I have been known to upgrade my ipad with each new update. All i was saying is that I am so happy with the speed & power of my current 11” iPP that i won’t be updating this time. At least not for 3D laser sensor on the back. Thats just the way i feel now. March is still a long way off. ;)

I guess you don't understand what is meant by main target market. The point is, people like you who upgrade at every iPad iteration are in the minority, and are vastly outnumbered by people who upgrade much, much less frequently.

If you like to upgrade this way, they're more than happy to sell new iPads to you, but their model iterations are not specifically designed to capture this smaller group of customers.

In addition, the vast majority of iPhone users do not upgrade every year either. In fact, the average upgrade period for iPhone users is now every 4 years. Yes, 4. And that's average, not the longest. Even if you went by previous averages, it was still much, much longer than a year, at about 3 years. Furthermore, IDC states that for the 2019 year, they expect only 16% of the installed iPhone base to upgrade. IOW, your statement that "iPhone users tend to upgrade every year" is just flat out wrong.

BTW, I actually agree that iPhone users likely tend to upgrade more frequently than iPad users. However, if only 16% of iPhone users will upgrade this year, what do you think that means for iPad users?

iPad Air2 still runs smooth as butter. Even on iOS 13.1.
all depends on what you use it for, i do 3D sketching and use the pencil alot for notes taking. majority of time its fine but there are rare hiccups. now ofcourse if you use it for social media and what not, heck even the 1st gen ipad would suffice.

Yeah, I think come March, you’ll be convinced, lol!=)

Also... I just reread the article to be sure; it makes NO mention this will be the only update/change- it’s likely just a bonus. I love my 2018 13” iPP, but even not knowing anything else but this camera module & the new processor w/ the amx component (that I’m SUPER curious about!), I know I’m gonna be a day one buyer.

I think w/ the new iPP, the target market isn’t even iPad upgrades at all!
That’s the regular iPad.... I think the iPP is going HARD for laptop replacement as their target market, in that space. Although, now that I think about it... I’m willing to bet the farm that Pro users are far more likely to want the latest features/specs, vs those that bought the cheap one, for social media consumption... so, to a lesser degree I suppose at least previous iPP owners upgrading is also a subset of their target market.

The MagicKeyboard still unpredictably gets detached from time to time. Many times when I switch apps, say from Safari to Notes, the MagicKeyboard loses connections and the on-screen keyboard pops up. Apple has put some lukewarm effort to deal with this bug but never completely gotten rid of it. This is one of the problems resulting from lowering hardware quality that I would rather Apple try more sincerely to fix than add this 3D-sensing camera to iPad Pro.

Several shortcomings of the latest iPP would prevent it from being a laptop replacement:
- only one single connector to serve both audio I/O
- iMovie and the Garageband on iPP are not 100 percent compatible with Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro on Mac OS
- Keyboard layout and shortcuts are not the same.
- iPP mouse pointer is not as precise.
- Finally, I am not sure if the latest iPP keyboard still has the random disconnection bug or not.

A camera in an iphone i can take, but not on an iPad.. its far boo big to hold, a slab of lard up *with bot hands*

I'm sure some value the camera on their iPad, but I wish Apple would offer a variant of the iPad Pro that includes no rear camera, or at least one that doesn't protrude. It's hard to imagine an iPad Pro owner that doesn't also have a good smartphone camera, and I believe many of us would value a flat-backed iPad more than a high-quality rear camera.

I’ve used my iPad Pro every single day for 3 years now. Never used the camera. Not even once.

What if you’re only using it, for example, to look at the empty spot in your living room, & see what new piece of furniture looks good there?
Certainly a “big slab of lard” would make a better viewing window than an iPhone in that case, yeah?
AR is (in my opinion), is a much cleaner & appropriate experience on iPad.

That doesn’t happen, the iPad isn’t held back by the previous iphone’s hardware, only the naming scheme is
Look it up. That's exactly what happened with the iPad Pro 10.5" and the iPhone 8. Look at the benchmarks for both. Only months apart. It sucked.

infact 2021 unless You want defective crap. Welcome to I waste.
All major releases over the last year were faulty crap.
iphone intel chip Desaster, Pad Pro ... screen dead, Watch was obsolete on arrival, .Mac Keyboard horror, ... useless HomePod... no Bluetooth included, haha
I’m sorry to hear your Ipad was so problematic. It took a few returns and an iOS update for my to have touch sensing work. But even then it wasn’t terrible. Honestly despite the early issues and some still happening, the iPad Pro 3 is my favorite Apple Product ever made. Since the first gen Ipad, I have despised the home button and dreamed of exactly this model. Again, it had/has issues with some people, but I so did the 2017 pros with screen/light bleeding and white spots. They also were so thin they could bend easily (not as easily due to being a few mm thicker) but I remember, her so many threads talking about thin iPads having issues.

I’m glad I got the 2-year AC+ cause if something happens to my pro, new models will be out and replace these... so if mine breaks or has issues Apple will probably just replace it with the newer model equivalent. *well hopefully that would be the case.
But I’m also good if it doesn’t have issues. lol

march 2020??? after an rumored Sep-Oct new ipad pro ??
I trust more Gurman

That’s “I Gurman trust more” in Yoda-ese.
[doublepost=1567862892][/doublepost]Nope, rarely if ever used my iPads rear cameras in 9 years. The front camera, for Skyping, I use weekly.

I like it better when Apple releases new iPad Pros right after the iPhone. At least the Spring is better than the Summer. Nothing like buying an expensive new iPad Pro only to have the new iPhone that comes out two months later either match or beat it in performance because it uses a newer generation processor.

Completely agree on this one. exactly this happened to me with the 2017 iPad pro 10.5
I much prefer the October release of iPads..

Some needs iPad back camera, many don’t. Maybe have an option with 3 and with one only?

I only care about the FaceTime cam..

I tried using the new iPad-Pro triple lens camera system to have a shave.
FaceTime cam can be good for that (instead of a mirror), but not the back cams.. 😉
