So is it better to buy the 2018 model? Will that be compatible with the magic keyboard + trackpad?
It is ONLY better to buy the 2018 model if you can get it for less. If you’re going to spend the same $799, get the new one definitely. If you can get the old one for a 20% discount, get that one.

AND the 2018 model IS compatible with the keyboard + trackpad.

You are likely not the target for this upgrade, likely they are reaching out to IPP 2017 or earlier folks.

I don't know... it's not unreasonable a year and a half after release that we'd expect an upgrade for the 2018 iPad Pro 11. Why not increase sales? All this is doing is making it more likely that those iPP 2017 or earlier folks just buy a cheaper 2018 model on clearance, which is my recommendation. The rest of us don't buy anything, because there's nothing to buy. Especially in this climate you'd think Apple would make more of an effort to increase sales in some way.

Yes. (And you got one.)

But does that mean the average buyer of the 2018 should also get a new one a year and a half later? Probably not.

Maybe I'd pick it up around the house more than my laptop, I'm not sure though, depends how well it sits on your knee when your on the sofa.
Quite well to be honest wether it’s on the Smart Keyboard or with a normal smart cover

Question: Do you guys think there will be another model next year? Like they did in 2016 and 2017?

What climate are you referring to?

If the "climate" refers to the virus outbreak, the decision to put an A12Z in there must have been made long before. Probably in fall, maybe even earlier.

If you get, like, $150 off on it? Maybe. Otherwise, no.

Best Buy had some discounts and I grabbed a 2020 there for the same price I would have paid for the same 2018 config. I got a 1TB 12.9 with cellular though so discounts weren't exactly plentiful on the older model. There weren't any refurbs at the time I purchased so not sure what they would have sold for.

I'll get 2.5% back in reward certs and it'll count toward keeping my free shipping and such going there so that's a minor win. Another 2% back for using Apple Pay with the credit card so I dug for every cent.

My Best Buy recently had a sign saying if you buy Apple products with an Apple Card, that doesn’t count towards rewards. Maybe they backed off of that?

I don't know why this would be a thing. I purchased online and there was no such warning. Anyways I used Apple Pay and I've always gotten points before. I don't know how they could even tell what kind of card was used.

Honestly I'd probably just return it out of spite and buy one from Apple if that winds up being the case. That's the kind of stuff that pushes me away for years, as trivial as it is.

I'd try to call their customer service but I had another question earlier and it was greater than an hour wait time.

Edit: It's true but it has nothing to do with Apple Card. If Apple products are purchased with anything other than a Best Buy card, you get no points. I'm still ahead about $100 but it pisses me off. I'm less inclined to return out of spite when I can't easily return stuff these days due to the virus.

Now that Gamer's Club Unlocked is gone and Apple stuff doesn't count toward points I won't be shopping there much. GCU was actually responsible for me going BACK to BB after years shopping elsewhere. I wound up pushing $4k+ per year there but will prob go to near zero.
