Another update on my crazy tale of woe. To recap, my order placed May 12th for i7/32/1TB SG was meant to arrive June 1st. It did not, but UPS tracking showed delivery to another address. Phone UPS who say it was mistakenly left at an Amazon warehouse. Would take up to 28 days for them to retrieve and redeliver to me. UPS suggest I contact Apple about a replacement, as that would be quicker.
Many calls to Apple, promises of call back by tier-2 support, no call back. Finally, on June 8th I get to speak to someone helpful (previous agents friendly, but not able to do much). Apple agree to refund my card and give me a further £60 credit as a goodwill gesture. Apple will sort out the return with UPS, so nothing for me to do. Same day (June 8th), I place a new order for a slightly higher configuration (i7/32/2TB), which happens to be one they pre-build and therefore has a shorter delivery time. Annoying, but all set to receive the second order estimated June 16th. A small goodwill gesture to make up for the hassle I've had. All-in-all, an acceptable outcome.
Roll-on today (June 9th) and what happens? You guessed it, UPS deliver the first machine to me with a "MISSDELIVERY" sticker on the box. No obvious damage to the packaging for all its extra journey. I call Apple as soon as I finished work, but of course they are closed for the day.
It is a kind of farce. I
think I just need to decide whether I really want 2TB or 1TB and call Apple tomorrow to resolve this once and for all. The difference now is that the 1TB model is the "bird in the hand", whereas the 2TB model is a week away (assuming no further balls-up by UPS). I don't think I really need 2TB, as I'm managing fine with 500GB right now. Therefore, I'm inclined to cancel the 2TB order before it ships (and before I'm charged), tell Apple not to refund as I now have the 1TB machine, take my £60 goodwill gesture and ask for the AppleCare+ start date to be adjusted to June 9th.
Sorry for the length of this post
