iPad Pro 2021 12.9 Screen Shadow

After a couple hours using my 12.9 M1 iPad Pro, lemme address the shadow stuff. It’s really not a problem to me… and I’m someone who tends to obsess over display quality, uniformity, etc. (I exchanged three or four 12.9-inch 2018 iPad Pros over this stuff.)
It’s not really a “line” around the border so much as a very thin, barely noticeable gradient. It’s there if you specifically hunt for it in settings, on a white Safari page, etc. But as was mentioned earlier, the uniformity of it — that it goes all the way around the screen — basically makes your eyes completely ignore it.
Also, nothing about this display seems lower beneath the glass than my 2018 unit did. I’m not noticing any increased gap, so I’m not sure where that perspective is coming from.

Don’t forget these mini led iPads just came out, I’m sure apple will tweak a few more display settings in the future, or if you’re not happy, return it 🤔
This mini led display destroys my 3rd gen model in every way.
What is this ghosting stuff I’m meant to be looking for? Not seeing any 👻 on my screen 🤔😂

Game changing is a subjective word. For some people MacOS (in whatever form) on iPad is game changing. I am not expecting that. For other it's Apple's Mac video and audio editing apps. I don't care about them.
For me it's proper external monitor support (which again many people don't care about) and, to a lesser extent, choosing default apps to open files in the file app.
That's what would change my game (which doesn't mean replace my laptop, not even full MacOS would replace my Windows laptops)

if that's how notes look, it's a good thing Miniled didn't come to the 11 pro and mini, which I guess are iPads people tend to use more to take notes or read books because they are more lightweight... The 12.9 is the most suitable for the technology since it's the best size to watch videos.

Good point. Any of those would be pretty big news for iPad though. I'm with you, proper external monitor support would cause me to update from my 2018 12.9in Pro to a 12.9 M1 iPad. I don't think it will happen though.
If it makes folks feel any better, I see the same "shadow" near the edges of my Pro Display XDR.

Guarantee you taking that photos makes it look much worse than it really is, the camera blows out the whites to a unrealistic level, compared to seeing it in person.the blooming is completely normal for FALD displays.

If I was seeing this on my m1 iPad I would‘ve returned it ASAP.
It's not my photo but I agree, the point is that blooming is normal for any FALD or local dimming displays. Same on my Samsung TV and any other device I've seen with this screen tech.

Strange. I know my eyes are a bit shot after many decades of intense screen usage, especially my right one which will make white text on a black background look bloomy on any type of display, so perhaps I'm just used to things looking like that and not really noticing. But I tried the notes app in dark mode and it looks nothing like that. Sure, I can see something, but it's more like the black background surrounding the text being very dark bluish instead of completely black. Basically, the way black would look on a normal LCD instead of OLED black.
