Sundial is a beautifully designed and executed app showing sun and moon rise/set/phase data. Innovative presentation, watch integration—I’m not even a huge astronomy fan and I love it.

Agree that it's overpriced, but it has a unique position.

1. Claims to the minute accuracy of rain and snow starting and stopping.
2. Speaks to you like you are human garbage.
3. Pretty.
Dark Sky does 1 and 3 for a lot less (and I believe Carrot gets its data for 1 from Dark Sky). I guess if 2 is really worth the extra money to you... though there are more direct services available for that.

for just weather for me "rain alarm" , they got apple watch show the map also . dam nice

$27 a year for a weather app subscription?? Are all those reviews for carrot cake or something? Whats the “feature” worth this subscription?
A good chunk of the cost would be going towards the weather data, which isn’t free at scale. Most of the sources integrated with maybe offer 500 or 1000 calls a day per API key, but as the developer is using their key across the user base they need to pay for their user base to access the weather data.

Beyond that you pay for updates and the like to the app itself, and new features.

Whether that’s worth paying for is up to you. Many people are happy with the Apple weather app or one of the sources that’ll provide the data free via a search. Subscriptions for weather apps isn’t a new thing but, many have it, and it gets you a UI you might like more, additional data or features such as integrating your own weather station (or pulling data from other people’s in the area).

Personally I agree it’s a decent amount to spend, but it’s not unreasonable for those that make heavy use of the app. Having a choice of 7 providers will likely mean better weather data for many people compared to what Weather Channel provides Apple, too.

Disclaimer: I am not paid by Carrot and I do not work for Carrot. I'm just a huge fan.

Features. Features. Works on my MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch. I can customize it 900 different ways (black screen with data I want organized the way I want), without advertisements.

Weather is a small hobby of mine. I love the weather alerts, ability to notify of Pacific seasonal hurricanes/storms, and the lightning strike maps/rain/snow maps when I need them. I like having weather data available with any device I'm using at the moment. I also like plain data displayed - no need for fancy graphs or anything taxing. Works for me and has for years and years now. Every now and then I'll try something else and it very quickly becomes clear why I chose Carrot and continue to use it.

I bought Dark Sky back in the day and I'm glad Apple bought it. Ever since Weather Underground was ruined ... Ok I won't start down that again. lol.

I think having a box like that, but with transparent glass with a Apple logo would be awesome in my room. I'd be looking at it all day

Agreed unless you have an Apple Watch where it blows away all other apps for watch complications. Plus one-tap access to animated weather radar on the watch display.

Americans spend $90,000 for oversized fossil-fuel-burning trucks and SUVs that carry one, single, solitary human. You know it‘s American because you almost never see the same oversized monstrosities in Japan, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, China, Greece… you know, anywhere other humans live.

$27 for a weather app might be okay.

Considering there are worse purchases.
