So close to pole Russell! :D

I’m getting to like him, seen more of his interviews, seems a kinda cool ‘down to earth’ young chap.

Also, William’s new boss seems the ticket to get Williams back up there again :)

Cheers
Martin

Ah they have spare monocoques and enough parts to build new cars. But yeah it’ll be a long night, still a walk in the park for an F1 team of mechanics.

EDIT: The crowds were booing Lewis again when he was interviewed after the qualifying, I think they can stop it now. It gets tiresome very quickly.
Yeah.

Move on.

Yeah.

Move on.

Yes I don’t support Lewis, but booing him is rather childish, I find it upsetting for everyone else including me as a viewer. It also reflects badly on Red Bull and Max if it’s his supporters doing it. They all need there heads in the game and should be respected. It’s like the disgraceful racism thrown at Lewis, you can criticise his character and driving without resorting to that nastiness!
The fans should be counting themselves extremely lucky to be allowed to attend the race anyway, some still have fans banned.
I think the FIA should step in if it continues.

Anyway moving on, hope for a good race today. But I suspect it’ll be a long one if crashes cause red flags.

Too much rain to start the race, but they have not triggered the two-hour clock so they can wait it out, though darkness will eventually play a role.

On the plus side, they might be able to repair Perez's car as under a Red Flag the teams are allowed to work on the cars.

FIA appears to have ruled that Perez can re-start.

However, the three-hour clock did kick off at 15:00 local so that means we're almost halfway into the race window now and there is concern they might not be able to hold it tomorrow so they may have to do one more lap under the Safety Car to award half points and call it a race at two laps.

Pretty sure we're not going to get anything like a real race in today. Conditions do not look like they will improve within the next 60 minutes when the race clock formally ends.

EDIT: The Race Stewards have used their authority to suspend the Race Clock so they can resume the race today if conditions / lighting are acceptable to do so. That being said, conditions are the worst they have been all day so I can't see it happening.

Race will resume in 10 minutes. Not sure how long it will run before they run out of daylight, but at least we'll get half points.

Perez will (re-)start from the Pit Lane if there is a Standing Start, otherwise he will start from the back of the grid.

IMO, get the necessary two laps in to award Half Points and call it. Part of this is because I want Russell to get 2nd and a bigger part is I do not want to see a massive shunt that hurts people or wrecks cars for The Netherlands next Sunday.

Race Stopped - conditions are too poor.

They have met the minimum conditions for half-points and they cannot reach 2/3rds distance for full points in the time remaining so I believe it will be formally called as there is only 45 minutes left in the window before time runs out.

The race is over.

Max is #1, George is #2 and Lewis is #3.

As half-points were given, Lewis retains his lead in the WDC, though it is now down to 3 points.

Now does Mazespin get 1 point or a 1/2 point for Fastest Lap? :p (EDIT: As he was not in the Top 10, he is not eligible for the half-point, but he does get to claim the honor).

I only started watching the recording about half an hour ago, I'll let it run now then whilst doing some housework as their is no race to watch lol.
Funny season his one, this race effectively cancelled, the other race where Lewis was the only person on the grid at the start. Crazy crazy season.

They can't move the race to a Monday as the marshals usually have other full time jobs to do. And the timetable to move the whole shebang, TV equipment, all the people, all the FIA kit, tons of equipment and lots of people and that's before you get to the cars and teams.

Some pointers from this weekend, I loved how Sebastian drove to Lando to check he was alright before returning to the pits.
And Mick Schumacher drove his dads Jordan n a Sky F1 film, the first F1 car Michael was in. Back in the days when he was racing Senna, and their were no buttons on the steering wheel and it was a manual. Racing by using your head, feet and the feeling through your bum. Classic racing, much more dangerous but you just admire those times even more for it.

Well just tuned in for the highlights as I always avoid any F1 chat before I watch the race. However in this instance I’d have rather have skipped it.
But it was the right call. Any attempt to race properly today would have only benefited the people at the track and the carbon fibre manufactures.
Not looking forward to next weeks race. Not a great F1 track.

We at least 31 laps in Malaysia. Heck, even Adelaide '91 had 16 laps before they called it and that was the shortest GP ever before the one official lap run today.

That being said, I agree with the call to effectively cancel it because it was just too dangerous to run.

I saw this and thought it was funny.

Well it is disappointing but I'd rather the drivers be alive and well.

Did anyone ever say why they couldn't wait and try again today?
