As predicted Mercedes are going to appeal the decision.

But then Mercedes will run into the same problem of the FIA investigating the FIA. You know exactly what the outcome of that will be.

Mercedes needs to take it to court and sue the hell out of F1.

I don’t think anyone asked for moving goalposts. It will remain a controversial end to an otherwise great season. Such a shame for it to end that way. I don’t think it will do wonders for the sport. Taking it off pay per view and moving it to free to air will do wonders for the sport. Having consistency will do wonders for the sport.
Banning all radio to the race director will do wonders for the sport.

I agree 150% on banning radio to the Race Director, and is one of my concerns I will be sending in.

So during the off season everyone in here and others fan forums should set aside some time write down their thoughts on what needs to be fixed and send their email to the FIA, Formula 1, and Liberty Media.

Never underestimate the power of millions of fans fed up with this seasons pressure from Liberty trying to continue their efforts to have F1 be an Elite version of NASCAR.

I‘ll be composing my thoughts over the next week or so, then off they go.

I will definitely be sending in my complaint. We’ve had such an exciting season and it’s been let down by a race director who couldn’t follow their own rules and make fair decisions. It’s completely undervalued this years world championship and wasted a lot of fans time. There would have also been a lot of people who don’t usually watch F1 and saw an absolute farce today. There needs to be a clear out and Liberty media need to have less influence IMO.

F1 fans have already forgotten controversy relating to 2008 World Championship.

Max is the new Senna and Schumi. He will win them over.

I wouldn’t put him in that category just yet, he’s only won a single world title and not in particularly convincing fashion. He’s got a lot in common with Nico Rosberg at this point in regards to the incidents throughout the season and the luck in the last race.

The controversy in 2008 never doubted the actual winner, it was other teams and drivers involved.

The FIA Court of Appeals is very unlikely to overturn the decisions of the stewards on both protests and back in the day (that day being last decade), taking it all the way to the CoA was a good way for the aggrieved party to get slapped down even harder so if Mercedes really pushes it, they might regret it.

They still won the Constructors Championship and that is where the money comes from, so all they really lose out on is the marketing prestige of having the sitting (and 8 time, instead of 7 time) WDC. Can't really see them winning much, if anything, by taking the FIA to civil court over monetary losses.

He will be no doubt. They were nut jobs so is he lol.

All i know is i started following F1 again after watching him race like that this season.

Yes Hamilton have broken all the records but he will never be GOAT (imo) like drivers of the past. He is like Novak Djokovic winning everything but the real G is Roger.

The greatest of all time is too subjective anyway. My dad will always say Jim Clark and I will always say Senna or Hamilton because they are the best drivers I’ve seen race with my own eyes at the side of a race track. My grandfather would have said Moss or Fangio. Every generation produces a great stand out driver and this generation is Lewis’. No point arguing who is the GOAT as it is a question that is absolutely impossible to answer. People pick drivers who influenced them in a period of their life where their love of F1 was born.

Very true. Senna and Schumacher influenced me big time. But i will always have that soft spot for Schumi.

Amongst all this controversy i was more gutted about Kimi not finishing his last F1 race.

I never liked Schumacher the racing driver so it affected my admiration of his great talent. He was a great bloke though and despite watching his entire career, I appreciated him after he retired.

Hamilton may yet announce his retirement and I wouldn’t be surprised after today. He’ll go out on top knowing he was the fastest with seven titles in the bank. I wouldn’t blame him as his record is difficult to beat for many years just like Michaels was until Lewis did it.

Mercedes need to let it go. They blew it today by playing things too cautiously. They had the fastest car but gave Red Bull too many chances to try something different in the name of 'track position' which came back to bite them.

The FIA need to have a long hard look at how they apply the rules, and then need to apply them consistently. They've done both badly this year. The whole 'team negotiation' over the radio we've seen in the last two races is completely wrong and must stop.

I know Max has said he won't change his driving, but he'll need to in order to get close to Hamilton's record. Staying within the white lines while running your opponent off will ultimately result in more DNFs than race wins. But hats off for the fight he's put up this season. We've had too many processional seasons, and this certainly wasn't that, thanks to Max. I genuinely spent most of the last few races on the edge of my seat.

Hamilton drove a perfect race today and was let down by his team and other drivers resulting in V/SC. I was gutted for him at the finish, but his reaction proved his GOAT status for me. I hope he tries again next year, although wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him in an F1 car again. His records are the ones to beat and rightly so.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread too. I've not agreed with lots of it, but it has always been interesting to catch up and reflected the passion on the track well.

Where's the 2022 thread ?

I have to say I like this forum, I’ve read others I’m a member off but don’t comment as it’s a total whitewash of Lewis fans and their is NO room for discussion or differing opinions, you get fully attacked for anything not following the status quo. You guys certainly seem open to that and I find it most most welcome :)

Eh, there a quite a good number of Lewis Anti-Fans out there as well. The most entertaining is the Sub R/F1. Just becomes insane in there.

I’m split on it, because it allows us to hear what really goes on and doesn’t leave it to interpretation.

I guess I could see where hearing the chatter could add to transparency if it were not for, IMO, only select exchanges are broadcast. Mostly to create more of a Circus Atmosphere. So I say be done with it.

I couldn't cope with that many posts! That's mad! I like a good mix of opinions and on here amongst the few commenting it's what we have.

Is Lando still driving for McLaren next year? He was quoted as saying thanks to his mechanics as if it was goodbye, was it just thanking them for the year though?
