Crazy ending , Lewis earned the win on track with a great start and Max botched it HARD , I can't fathom Latifi fighting Mick for the last place like he did , everyone were aware that this is a special race and did what they could to stay out of the way , Latifi somehow decided its time to fight till the death.
Also , if Masi wanted a checkered flag ending , Red flag the race and give them 5 laps on even footing , ending the race on a safety car is not fun but fair , but doing what he did , the way he did it .... that was just ridiculous.

Oh for Gods sake, Mercedes are claiming Max overtook Lewis under the safety car! Max's nose 'may' have been in front of Lewis's car for less then a second. By what 5CM..
That's pure desperation. When Lewis restarted he was very clearly in front.
It all depends on the second issue where Masi broke the rules , if they give Lewis the championship Merceds wont go to court with them , if they dont , then it will be court for them , as he broke the rules.

It will be hard to see him as race director next year.

This is not over. Apparently there are clear rules that have to be followed and the stewarts made up their own rules. The race should either have been finished under the safety car or they should have allowed the back markers to pass the safety car and catch up with the back of the race. Lets not forget before the safety car Lewis was 11 seconds ahead with no chance of Max catching him.

I agree with this. Masi could have avoided this entire situation with a red flag.

However breaking the rulebook because you don't want the race to finish under a safety car is fraud.

I have a VERY hard time imagining a scenario where they reverse the decision , it will make a joke out of the sport to be honest , as with most ****ups in life someone will pay , but not to the extent that is warranted , in this scenario I see Masi stepping down as the only way to say "I ****ed up , and here is my head on a plate" , taking Max title wont do that he won it on track , is the situation should've been avoided ? of course , but that is not his fault and he will not be penalized.

You don’t get this rule interpretation and changes in other sports. It’s ridicules.
Set the rules, have the rules the same for every race. No need for appeals. That’s how it should be and what I hope they sort out for 2022. RIP Charlie.

Agree you can’t go back in time. A red flag would have been better. Or not handing a huge advantage to one team. If Max had got passed the 4 back markers and passed Lewis (which I think he would have), then it would still have been the same result but without the controversy.

Congratulations Max. Glad that I stayed to watch the race to the end. Controversy from the beginning of the season to end. I thought it would be a boring season but pleasantly surprised with all the twists and turns. Agree with most that F1 needs to go back at look at the "officiating" throughout the season. Seems like everyone wants tracks that provide more opportunity for passing but other than Monaco, which is a farce, I can't point to others that are terrible. I'm hoping that the new regulations will tighten up the racing in 2022. Was pleased that Hamilton was so gracious after the race, we all know that it was a crushing ending for him. Kuddos to him. All this really has me looking forward to next season. Cheers

In the end, F1 is just advertisement to companies like Red Bull and Mercedes. And winning the championship involves alot of money and exposure for those companies.

So if the FIA doesn't correct this situation, Mercedes can probably sue F1 for alot money due to potential loss of income.

Or threaten to pull out. That’s how Ferrari used to do it!

They might. Toto's has already hinted he is quiting and Lewis says that he will quit too if Toto leaves.

And I highly doubt Mercedes will want to continue spending $250m+ per year and not win the championship due to fraud.

Lewis was totally magnanimous in defeat and a bigger man than most would be. He drove a hell of a season and overturned a huge points lead to win the last few races. To lose his advantage in this race with the lead he had and be put into a one lap sprint must be so bewildering for him right now. He must be feeling robbed to be fair. Fair play to him for congratulating Max and Red Bull after all they’ve said. His maturity from all his experience is evident

What an absolute farce. I look forward to see the outcome of the appeals and the inevitable court case (and I say that as neither a fan of Merc, or RB, or Max, or Hamilton. I'm team Alonso all the way!).

Max did not overtake Lewis. What do you class as overtaking? 5 centimetres? For less then a second? That's what will be argued here.
Masi has given racing, the rules were done on the fly yes, but the teams and drivers ALL asked to be allowed to race this year.
You'll find it will be argued how much influence can Masi have over what happens, based on what the teams and drivers want, it'll be controversial but the sport will be irreparably damages if Lewis wins because of 5CM for less then a second.

Bless seeing Kimi leaving the track with his wife and kids. He looks happy and relaxed. He'll be back in some way.

Trouble you have is the old rules are what allowed one driver to be 40 seconds in front.
If you look over the season even in the safety car overtakes. So the decisions are now being taken to allow them to race.
I highly suspect that's Liberty Media's influence, but they own the sport now, and they want racing. As the drivers do too.

They need to basically change a lot of rules I think.
It will be difficult for them. RB gambled and it paid off.

We will have to see how the new cars will behave with racing. I hope it'll be a lot better and closer so the rules and race director don't come into play as much.

Way back I predicted this chaos when Bernie sold F1 to Liberty. They are a freaking Media Company. It’s not like Penske Inc. purchasing Indy Car and the Indianapolis Motor Sport Complex.

Not saying F1 was better under Bernie and his Ferrari Bias, but it was better from a Consistent Regulatory point.

I think the FIA, Race Director, and Stewards are working under extreme pressure from Liberty. Resulting in chaos.

wow

After that nonsense by the stewards on lap 1 I was so sure of Lewie being handed the title I left the house and went for my morning run.

Came back home and was pleasantly surprised.

Although, let's face it, they were trying to hand it to Lewie again with not letting the back markers get their laps back. Wonder what changed their minds?

Cheers Max!

Maybe one day someone I actually root for will win the title...

Yes, but yet again, all the teams and drivers said they wanted to be allowed to race rather then have regulations control them, and as a result the rules have been changed all the time.
Bernie wasn't the best but he did grow the sport a lot.
I think a lot of analysing will be carried out from this season, and hope they change the rules for the better for next year and beyond.
They don't have the time to set in stone I guess the rules for that when you have such long seasons each year. Hopefully they'll get better for next year.

I see it the other way around. They reasoned if they followed the rules and allowed all the back markers through plus the one extra lap, there would be no more laps left. So they went for a compromise that suited RBR.

That is exactly why Mercedes did not pit Lewis, they figured out there would be no laps left if the lapped cars had to unlap themselves.

However like everybody else, they did not expect the FIA to start breaking their own sporting regulations.

Of course you do.

Are you the one who filed the protest?

Lewie already said Max had a great year and deserved the title.

Move on MB.

Not sure what you saw , but they clearly did gave Max the win on a silver platter , the only valid ending to this race that had any sense of fairness were : 1) Red flag straight away , dont waste time and laps under safety cars , 2) end the race under the safety car , the option they went with is just absurd to be honest , and if it was not a Merceds and Lewis that most ppl are fed up seeing wining , we would be rioting right now , imagine Lando losing the title like this or Charles , ppl would go berserk , but as its Lewis , ppl go , welp he has enough , so that's fine.

I hope to see Max and Lewis fight in the midfield next year , they can go karting style racing for all I care , had enough of them for a lifetime to be honest , lets GOOO FERRARI Maclaren and Renault !!!

Ferrari might be the big surprise next year. Unlike Mercedes and Red Bull, Ferrari quit developing this years car and went all out on next years car.
