TCU is pretty good, sadly UofG is much, much gooder...

I didn't watch the game, but I'm disappointed by the outcome. Congrats for Georgia, but I was rooting for TCU

With how the powers that be schedule the championship game, I've more les lost interest. When a college football game is well after January 1st, I've already moved on

Also it seems more often then not, the championship game is not a fun game to watch. I'm sure Georgia fans will disagree but watching such a one sided game is not generally good football. I suspect the ratings will reflect that. People tend to tune out and switch the channel when the outcome is already decided early on.

Agreed.

Maybe after all, letting more teams into the playoffs isn't such a good idea. A team like Georgia vs #8 or #12? Yikes.

More teams is better. The expanded playoff might get me to start watching college football again.

I stopped watching in 2017 when my alma mater University of Central Florida went 12-0 and was shut out of the playoff. I’m not going to support a system that tells half the teams you have no chance to make the playoff because they aren’t in the “right” conference.

I get that side of it. But what about a #5 Alabama or #7 Clemson?

I think the Committee felt pressure to not make it an SEC vs B10 playoff and TCU is what you got as a result.

Not a fan of 12, but 8 is reasonable. The 5 P5 champs, the top G5 team and 2 wild cards.

I watch PTI on ESPN and at the end of the show they do a Happy Anniversary to some past event in sports. And yesterday was the 46th anniversary of Madden's first SB win.

So back then, the SB had already been played and today we haven't even started the playoffs.

Yes, the SB used to be played in January up until 2003.

Season was only 14 games back then. The NFL has added another month of games.

All aspects of that game was dominated by Georgia. I was expecting them to win, didn't expect them to blow them out like this and to this extent. The game was over before halftime.

I was pulling for TCU, only because of my hate for Georgia, but it kinda proves the point, at least for this year, that the SCC is that much better than a lot of teams and programs out there, even if they come in undefeated etc. TCU earned the spot, but they were blown out and Georgia made a point in doing so. My take on it all.

And, in order to nip this in the bud - because we get this discussion every year on the internet - could Georgia beat an NFL team?

No.

Georgia vs the worst team in the NFL would still be an NFL blowout :)

I'm not so sure. I've had conversations in the past with folks where I felt that Alabama (when they had their incredible run of national championships) could beat the worst NFL team. I think its very conceivable, if Georgia played against Chicago or Houston they could beat them.

I think it would be a close game, but during those years, Bama was that good. Do I think it would be a blow out, nope, close, maybe. I would like to see something like this... just for S&G's.

A committee that had a tendency to favor SEC and Big 10. Letting one loss teams into the playoffs while ignoring undefeated teams
Sorry but the SEC is head and shoulders better than the rest of the NCAA ... it just is.

But I agree it gets old seeing the same teams all the time.

But, 'Bama would have made a much better opponent last night. that said I do believe OSU would have too...

Not even close. The best guy on a college team would be only a good rookie on an NFL team. There would be 15 guys better than him on the NFL team. The NFL is made up of the best 1 percent of all college players. Guys who starred on their college teams are just special teamers on NFL teams.

And I have precedence. Back in the day, the NFL SB winners actually played college all-star teams. NFL teams were 31-9-2. And those were all-star teams, not a single college team.

The question of how the best college team would fare against an NFL team has been posed to a member of those Alabama teams. He doesn't think twice before providing an answer:

JARED QUAY: I'm doing amazing, man. You played with probably one of the best college football teams ever assembled. And the question always goes, can your best college team beat the worst NFL team?

NAJEE HARRIS: No.

- You don't want to think about it? You don't want to kick it around?

NAJEE HARRIS: Hands down no. You could take our undefeated team against the-- I don't know who's the worst team in the NFL right now, but no, [INAUDIBLE]. Like for us in college, Alabama, it's like if you don't win by 25, 30 points, it's like they considered it an off year. Like, oh, [INAUDIBLE]. But like, you know, here, you're just trying to win a game, like no matter how you do it. Even in college, it's like, you know, every now and then, you'll play against a small school. You know, Alabama, I mean, we played against Mercer. You know, no disrespect to Mercer, but it's like, you know, Alabama-Mercer and then like that would be like an easy game for us. But here, ain't no ain't no Mercers or any small schools. Every week is a good ass team.

I didn't understand his answer...

They actually played a few games like this way back when. Then players started getting hurt and they quit the series.

Yeah, I don't think he's going to win any plaudits for his eloquence, but I think what he was trying to say that he played on a team that had very high expectations, and were a very good team that set the standard. The second point he tried to get across was that there are no cupcake teams in the NFL, like in CFB.

But, as a skill position player on those championship 'Bama teams, and a member of a middling Steelers team that is neither hopeless, nor dominant, he seems very certain as to how the highest level of CFB compares to the pro league, and who here can doubt him, or speak with greater authority?

It would be interesting to see what his teammates, or others who have followed a similar path, think.
