The third-generation Apple TV 4K introduced in October 2022 is now available on Apple's refurbished store for the first time in the U.S., Canada, and select European countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and others.

In the U.S., the refurbished models are discounted by $20 compared to brand new, with the 64GB model with Wi-Fi priced at $109 and the 128GB model with Wi-Fi and Ethernet priced at $129. The refurbished third-generation Apple TV 4K comes with the Siri Remote with a USB-C port, power cord, and documentation inside a new plain white box.

Apple says all of its refurbished products are functionally tested, inspected, and cleaned, and they are eligible for AppleCare+ coverage.

The third-generation Apple TV 4K features the A15 Bionic chip, HDR10+ support, a thinner and lighter design, increased RAM, and more. Note that this Apple TV model ships without a USB-C charging cable in the box for the Siri Remote, except in Brazil, so you will need to purchase a cable separately if you do not have one.

For those who prefer a new model, monitor our Apple TV deals guide for occasional sales.

It reminds me of how the previous 2nd gen model was on sale retail for those prices when the 3rd gen (2022) was starting to be sold. Now apple selling refurbs of the 2022 at about the same. Yeah cheap.

I've been so happy with my 2022 Apple TV. Yeah, these things cost more than most streaming boxes, but the experience is so much better, and also way better than the software built into most TVs.

I legit *TRIED* to use the built in TV software on my new Samsung but within a few hours I came right back to Apple TV.

This is the only Apple device I own. Siri voice search is leagues behind Google Assistant and app integration is lacking, but the performance of this device is unmatched.

They so rarely go on sale new. Costco had them on sale a few weeks ago, but were out of stock almost immediately and then the day after they went off sale they came back in stock. What a coincidence! ;)

Ahhh, recalling an old joke...

Customer walks into meat shop seeking ribeyes.

"$14.99 each" says shopkeeper.

"Your competitor up the street has them for $12.99, but they are out of stock."

"When I'm out of stock, my ribeyes are 3 for a dollar."

Is this even worth it for a $20 discount? Personally, I'd rather buy new for the additional cost.

In all my experience with Apple for 20+ years, refurb is as good as new when purchased from Apple. I've never been let down when opting to save the 10%-15%.

$20 could buy you a meal or two.*

*well, in 2023, maybe a few crackers and a water.

How is Google Assistant better?
ˆthis is a curious question, I am not trying to to start an "oh yeah, whatabout..."

I don't have/use any Google Assistant so I have no idea.

I ripped a 4K movie. I tried streaming it with the NVidia Shield which I heard was great. It was garbage, wouldn't stream smoothly, unwatchable. I hooked up my AppleTV and it was flawless, I was sold.

Voice recognition accuracy. Google Assistant very rarely misses what I'm trying to say under any condition. With Siri, I find I often have to spell out words even if I speak very slowly.

I’ve own various Rokus and a couple of Fire TV Devices. None compare to the Apple TV. I did buy my mom a TV with Fire TV built in and it’s pretty nice, but I still prefer the Apple TV. I just wish they sold a lower-end version that I could put on all my TVs. Essentially sell an Apple TV That is good for streaming and not for other apps to get the cost down.

The difference between the 2021 and 2022 models is really minor unless you absolutely must have USB-C on your remote

There's still no 120hz support on the HDMI output. The tvOS interface on higher framerate would be REALLY nice. Especially when scrolling through the parallax effect thumbnails of movie posters in certain apps

I see zero compelling reason to upgrade from my 2021 atv4k’s, I have no itch at all

Only if one is in the market for an Apple TV now and the 2022 isn’t much more expensive
I have a low-end 4K TV with faux-HDR support so my 2017 model is perfect for me. I figure when I eventually upgrade to a nice OLED TV then it might be worth getting the latest Apple TV.

The Shield is so outdated now I'm surprised Nvidia isn't talking about a new TV box. I have a Fire Cube 3 and a few cheap 4k Google TV with Chromecasts variants, I like tinkering around with the Android side of things. I bought my parents a new Apple TV 4K and I'm so jealous of the remote lol, it's worth the price of admission.
