gaming on tvOS is a complete waste of time.
Many people would argue that any gaming is a complete waste of time.

As for gaming on tvOS, Wreckfest, the game I mentioned on my earlier post isn't on Apple Arcade, it is on the App Store.

The Apple TV HW gaming limitations are generally due to decisions by Apple, starting with the very first tvOS device, the ATV4 (HD). Apple has since rolled back a lot of the terrible decisions, but a lot of the momentum that was there in the beginning died quickly.

That said, there are some decent games on the tvOS version of Apple Arcade, as well as on the tvOS App Store, but app discovery is horrible on tvOS making it near impossible to find stuff unless you already know the name of the app.

Arcade is literally the weakest aspect of apple's lineup aside from siri lol
At least for the tvOS, app discovery and the tvOS App Store is the weakest aspect, imo. Maybe followed by Siri.

But getting back to what I quoted you originally:
he difference between the 2021 and 2022 models is really minor unless you absolutely must have USB-C on your remote
Regardless to how you feel about gaming on tvOS, the potential differences between the A12 and the A15 is huge, and not what I would consider "minor". Apple just gimped it for gaming due to removing the fan for the A15 model.

So how much excessive heat damage do these refurbs have?
I don't think there is any heat damage to the 2022 model, it is just that the A15 chip will start to throttle to control the heat due to not having active cooling.

Apple's Refurbished products have always been a really good deal, imo.

I have bought many things from Apple's Refurbished Store, and they all have been great.

My oldest daily used Mac, the 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 was purchased from Apple's Refurbished Store, and it has never given me any problems, and has been running almost non-stop without a break for 17 years.

BTW, A refurbished Apple device from somewhere other than Apple's Refurbished Store is not the same thing.

At least in the US, there is no laws governing what is considered "refurbished". A seller on eBay, or even retail stores like Best Buy could wipe down the outside case of a Mac with damp cloth and call it "refurbished".

Apple's Refurbished Store site explains what they do to refurbished their products.

Is this even worth it for a $20 discount? Personally, I'd rather buy new for the additional cost.
Apple's Refurbished devices are tested a lot more vigorously than a device sold new.

Between that and the discount of $20, if I was in the market for an ATV4K3, I would definitely buy it refurbished, unless I could find it cheaper somewhere else.
