Welp, it's time for my annual first iPhone story. The story of my purchase of the first generation iPhone that Apple produced. Here goes...
I went on month to month with Verizon because I was waiting for the very first iPhone. At the time, the iPhone could only be used with AT&T’s network. The Friday launch day came and went and it was now Saturday and I didn’t buy the iPhone. I was very curious as to the crowds in line and if there were any iPhones left. I called the Columbia, MD Apple Store and got an employee. I said to him, “I’m very sorry to bother you. You must be very busy today, but I was wondering how many people are in line for the iPhone.” He replied, “Oh, there are no lines.” I said, “Well, do you have any iPhones?” He replied, “Oh yes, we have iPhones.” I hang up the phone and immediately drive to the Apple Store to buy the iPhone, the very first year of its existence. It didn’t have an SSD. It had a hard drive and was thick and heavy. The only data network at the time was Edge and boy was it slow, so slow that it was pretty much unusable. But it was better in WiFi. I’ve had an iPhone ever since.
