OMG! You’re right! It all started with the ‘9/23 Postal Service Delivery’ on pre-order day! 😳
I usually do in-store pickup. This year Apple changed my order to ship without asking first. Silly Apple.
Anyway... around here, there's one line for people who have a pre-order. Apple employees keep checking with everyone in line to make sure that they are roughly in order by time. If you come too early, you are told to come back at your time. I think if you come too late, they squeeze you in, but not sure. I've never seen anyone come late.
There's a second line for people who don't have a pre-order, but want to buy something that's in stock. People in that line get in when there's room and employees have time to help them. People who come without a pre-order get sent to the back of that line.
Nobody gets to just walk in.
