Well if only the racing was separated by tenths of a second… wonder what Ferrari will mess up on? And I think Aston Martin and Haas just showed the rest of the field who’s boss this year. Will it be Mercedes V Aston this season? Let’s see what happens in the race.
I'd love that.

Aston Martin have made the biggest leaps over the winter I think and it would be great if Alonso at 41 could be again fighting this season. The real test for a team like Aston is if they can keep up the development pace throughout the season. The likes of Red Bull and Mercedes have significantly better resources and have their development teams well attuned.

For me if Lewis and George aren’t fighting for the title, I’d take a good fight with Alonso for podiums. That’s of course if Fred is not suddenly picking off wins in the next few races. I’m determined to find something to get excited about and not resign to it being another dull 2022 lol.
Same.

Absolutely, Alonso V Lewis! And George too, bring it on. I do hope this isn’t a one off fluke for Aston.

This season is over already.

Atleast with Mercedes there was a nice team battle between Nico vs Lewis when they were dominate.

The battle between Ferrari, Aston Martin and Mercedes is possibly the battle to watch this year. The Red Bull is so dominant it’s hardly getting a mention.

Alonso for driver of the race for me. Him and Lewis giving us a glimpse of what we loved all those years ago. Two giants of the sport showing the youngster how to do it

Amazing drive Max, Checo and Fernando. Really enjoyable race. And respec for Lance, also really well driven.

It would be cool if Max gets all 23 races to finish first.

Well, the AMR23 with Fernando was the show today. Congratulations the AMR for a Podium. Great racing between Fred and Lewis for a few laps. Both with Mercedes PU’s. AMR most likely with the less tweaked version. Still able to leave Lewis and pull. “This is a wonderful car to drive.” Fred at 41.

Ferrari looks strong. Wasn’t expecting a PU failure TBO. Was expecting a stragety blunder.

W14 needs allot more straight line speed, and not burning the rears on exit when pushing. Both drivers did the best they could.

Disaster for McLaren. Sad. Thought Haas would contend more.

RB19 simply on another planet. Max had the PU turned down the last 10 laps and still maintained. Scary how fast it is. Great Chassis for the tires, and all the Consulting Honda Engineers. Serious Power. 😉😉

Going to be a Mid Pack Season.

Alonso was driver of the day and that’s not a surprise, he was phenomenal today and not lost any of his skill. The scary thing is the gap to him and the lead though, 40 seconds! I can’t see anybody getting close to Red Bull as that just looked so easy and effectively a test session of lap after lap.

Great battle between Alonso and Hamilton to keep us entertained for a few laps. Mercedes have a mountain to climb as that car just falls back on the straights. Lewis will be satisfied with fifth considering though I am sure. Stroll had a good drive considering his injuries and zero test laps. Hopefully he’ll learn a lot from Fernando and improve to a standard where he’s consistent.

A decent race for the mid field and the focus kept us entertained.

It seems Aston Martin managed to get a few engineers from Red Bull, which explains everything.

The real heroes are the ex-Red Bull engineers basically.

Yeah it seems like 2023 could be a repeat of 1988, just with RBR winning (effectively) every race instead of McLaren. So only question there is how early Max wins his third straight WDC.

Looks like second-best could be a strong fight between Ferrari and Aston (really between LeClerc and Alonso) with Mercedes (both Lewis and Russel) hopefully able to play with them more often than not.

Williams looked pretty good, considering. Nice to see Albon in the points and Lance 12th. Looks like they had a handle on Alpha-Tauri and hopefully that continues.

McLaren looked terrible. HaaS suffered from damage at the start for Hulk which put him permanently on his back-foot for the whole race. Ocon might as well have stayed in bed.

In 1988, we at-least a great battle between Senna and Prost. This is not the same situation.

Max his teammate is a #2 lap dog like Rubens Barrichello who has to help Max in every way possible. It is not comparable at all.

2023 will be one of the most boring seasons ever in F1.

Skipping all the posts as I'm just watching the race. But just wanted to say IMO the Alfa looks the sexiest and the Red Bulls look the raceiest looking at the liveries. Lol. Loving that shiny deep dark red on the Alfa's.

I survived 2002 when Schumacher secured the WDC with 35% of the season remaining and was never not on the podium, so even with Max likely running away with the WDC, as long as there is compelling racing between two or three teams for the rest of the Top 10, I'll keep paying attention the whole race.

I totally agree. The most exciting aspect of a season isn’t always the winner or how easily he breezes into the distance but the battles behind him. Testament to that stance is the fact the most exciting driver today finished third!

I was in my first year of Uni in 2002 and dropping a very boring F1 season then was easy when you’re in a halls of residence with a female to male ratio of 2:1 lol. I do hope 2023 is of better quality to that season though, that was one to forget.

I think that is very disrespectful toward Checo. He had a very good race today. Faster than most only lost against one person. Last year he was third best in the world. He is nobody’s lapdog.

Definitely. We were remarking exactly that. The Alfa Romeo looks amazing. The Williams disappoints in that department. I loved the studio photos but on the track it looks bland.

The Aston Martin also looks amazing I must say. But then again we like that green, same colour as my wife’s car 🥰😎

Wow! Just wow! What an utterly amazing opening race! Ferrari actually challenged until car failure, and Ferrrrrrrrando Alooooonsoooo!! Wow! Excellent seeing him battle AND beat Ferrari and Mercedes, bring it on!

This is what we want.

Looking at the race Alonso’s only real danger is Stroll, ramming his team mate tut tut tut.

Mercedes needs to get their act together. In my opinion Russell needs to be treated equal to Hamilton.

Russell had more pace than Hamilton and yet he was stuck behind him. He even announced it over the radio.

It is reality. Perez has to follow team orders and help Max out when they ask him to.

Perez doesn't have the same #1 status that Nico Rosberg had against Lewis and Ayrton Senna had against Prost where they were allowed to fight for the WDC against their teammate.

Perez is Max his lap dog as his #2 supporting driver. They don't have the same status within the team.

Nico Rosberg and Ayrton Senna would rather crash out their teammate than following team orders.

They are treated equally as far as I am aware. I want to see these guys racing like they were and team orders should only come in later in the season. George would have gotten past if he had the better pace for more than a couple of laps. Neither finished where they wanted to be.

Although he announced it, it didn't look like it. I thought there were some odd dynamics going on at Mercedes how their drivers were asking. Not the behaviour of champions, and indicates to me that as a team they are just not hungry or winning. And then there was the Lewis Oscar winning speech at the end where he thanks everyone and their dog. It was weird, very weird.

The team, any team is about winning. They want the win and they want the points. Perez was never going to finish in 1st yesterday, but that doesn't make him Max's lap dog. Nobody was going to take that from him yesterday. Perez did very well yesterday.

You don't get the point. Perez is a #2 driver and is not even allowed to win the WDC as he has to follow team orders.

The current situation cannot be compared during Mclaren their dominate years nor Mercedes where both drivers didn't have to follow team orders and both drivers were free to race eachother.

Atleast we had a great battles between Senna vs Prost and Lewis vs Nico back then during the dominate years of Mclaren and Mercedes.

Perez is Rubens Barrichello 2.0, hence 2023 will be one of the most boring F1 season ever.

The current situation is more comparable to Ferrari their dominate years, where there was a clear #1 driver within the team with a #2 driver in the supporting role. From day 1, those seasons were already over. It was an extremely boring time period too.
