As for today's broadcast, these people are clowns. Absolute clowns. We did not see a replay of the start until

the caution on lap 6. Max spinning and recovering, Kimi still can't start worth a damn, just a lot going on and they can't bother to show us until Lap 6+. And with the caution, they were commenting they were working on getting us the feed because they didn't even know what corner the cautions were in.

I have watched ARCA races, small track sprint races and NASCAR Modifieds that had replays quicker. Sure the video looks like it was shot on VHS, but they got the replays up shortly after the incident.

Clowns.

I live in Florida, and it's a second degree misdemeanor (lesser, non-felony violation). Here's the current relevant statute.

(1)(a) A person may not sell, give, serve, or permit to be served alcoholic beverages to a person under 21 years of age or permit a person under 21 years of age to consume such beverages on the licensed premises. A person who violates this paragraph commits a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. A person who violates this paragraph a second or subsequent time within 1 year after a prior conviction commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

So, one can argue that not only Kimi but the race organizers and officials, and possibly Ben Sulayem himself, could face (admittedly minor) charges in a Florida court. If only allowing boring racing was a chargeable offense.......

F1 returning to V8’s. I wonder who will fund the teams and make the PU’s when the manufacturers pull out? I can’t see Ford, Honda and Audi sticking around to develop engines that are irrelevant to their market strategy. Mercedes and Ferrari I expect to stay.

We all love a V8, but I also worry this will force the sport to seek rich independents who will come and go as the money runs out.

Race was okay. Still don’t really like the track.
Max did well with his spin at the start. Well so did everyone else to avoid him!

Antonali made it hard work after yet another poor start. He did really well to recover, but he needs to fix whatever he is messing up at the start.

George must be fuming. Not only has the Mercedes advantage been somewhat neutralised, his teammate is maximising the opportunities.

Yeah. About that. What was going on with the ATV version of the race?

I started watching it around lap 11, and couldn't rewind to the start of the race. I would back out, select "watch from start" or whatever the non-live choice was, but it never put me at the start of the broadcast, and it wouldn't go earlier than lap 11.

I'll have to rewatch it today to see what I missed.

But at least it was interesting at the end, with LaClercs "oopsie" and almost perfect recovery.

I kept the coverage on. I need to rewatch that post-race segment with the podium placers watching highlights of the race (volume was muted). It didn't look like they were that talkative, probably tired as can be, and seeing some stuff for the first time. It sure looks like it could be an interesting discussion.

No issues here. With the earlier start I was not home to watch it, so when I had a chance, I went to ATV on my DirecTV Gemini Air and started the broadcast like I always do.

Had to FF through all the talking that they have added to the beginning, but was able to watch the race from the beginning.

I watched until lap 35 and couldn't follow what was happening with batteries etc. I'd imagine most of the drivers and strategists felt the same. Lots of overtakes, drivers with power, and some with not, leads disappearing in a matter of laps. All seems like organised chaos.
 
The Race weighs in on the switch to V8 engines for the 2030 or 2031 season.


Mercedes is already on board, with Wolff floating the idea of a "mega-V8" with similar battery capacity and performance to what we have now, but with an ICE that generates twice the power of the current unit for a total of 1200hp. Red Bull Ford Powertrains appears to be fine with whatever and Ferrari just wants things to be cheaper (so I doubt they like Wolff's idea).

Audi, Honda and Cadillac have not yet chimed in. There will still be a not-insignificant element of electrification because otherwise F1 will look like dinosaurs running just ICE powerplants. My guess is that it will be more than the KERS days, but less than what we have now. Maybe 75/25? Will that be enough to keep Audi and Honda? That I am not sure of.

What I am sure of, however, is that Cadillac will be abandoning making a PU for the current regulations, instead continuing with Ferrari power until the new regulations come into effect.

I'm pretty sure Montoya was still sleep deprived on camera. At least he appeared and sounded like the angry old failed F1 personality he has always been.

If Kimi wins in Canada George will be in a rough situation. I find it very hard to believe Toto will not throw the weight of Mercedes behind Kimi. George has always been just an employee to Toto. Regardless of the on screen optics at times.

Toto want's Max and Kimi as teammates. It will complete him as a person. Unlikely to happen, but still there non the less. 😉
 
Am I the only one that thinks this new formula is a bit naff, ok, my theory, the problem is not enough over-takes, so the solution, change the DRS, and this works, we saw plenty of over taking, but however, like a free lunch, there is a catch...

I am just wondering if it dawned on the teams, that with this new formula, you have in effect 3 maybe 4 over takes viable on the tyres, and that the tyres are the limiting factor, sure you rocket passed the car, but then slam the anchors, and that is only going to do wonderful things to the tyres, do that 3 or 4 more times, and you end up with brilliant brand new tyres, good for 200 laps...

Nope, you end up with dead dogs, useless, and try as hard as you can, you will end up either in pit lane, begging for a set of new tyres or the hedge.. or the hedge then pit lane...

So fixing one problem created an even bigger problem... The problem was never DRS, but a tyre issue??? Is the tyre formula and grade of the issue... Seems highly sus that cars could overtake then not.. Less fuel, should be better racing, but...

Last few years has seen F1 moving from rule to rule with noting really working. Then we get stuck for a few years until the next set of regs, rinse and repeat.

That fixing the over-take exacerbated the problem, which was always since 1950 a problem, but as the years and the technology improved, maybe the degree tyres play increased unnoticed, like worn brakes on a car, you don't know until you drive a new car, and wow, maybe my brakes are worn.. Slow creeping decaying of the tyres??? Seems obvious that tyres are a problem, more now than before??

I honestly don't know but nothing seems to work. They tried non slick tyres, and no changing tyres and had the Michellin/Bridgestone battle but did anything work then?
 
This is my theory, the FIA, the teams, even the tyre producers were chasing the wrong idea.. They thought it must be aerodynamics that is the problem.. So they chased that red herring.. But maybe actually they should have tried a very different compound for the tyres? Hey I know the square root of a turnip about tyre compounds, but I started to wonder, why after a fixed number of overtakes, per car, around 4 or 5, then nada.. Maybe it is not the car, the tech, the server racks, or the meat in the seat.. But the 4 tiny bits of rubber...
