Drivers have to train but I'm surprised their contracts don't forbid dangerous activities. I can't remember who but I'm sure other drivers have missed races though injuries outside the sport.
There was Lance Stroll's cycling crash, but cycling is probably a core part of most drivers training and is not that risky.

More grist for the Silly Season mill: GP blog is reporting that Red Bull are offering another five-year contract to secure Max through the end of 2033. I believe this is the same outfit who claimed Red Bull offered an 8 million Euro increase on his current contract to buy out his "escape clause" and lock him in for 2027 and 2028.

Isaac Hadjar to miss Zandvoort from a broken wrist due to boxing. Lawson in his seat. Yuki to Racing Bulls.

I’m curious how many drivers box as a part of their training? Certainly seems overly risky due to the importance of their hands and wrists with their profession.

Apparently he broke it on a "heavy" bag. He wasn't boxing.

My read on this season is Max doesn’t sign a new RB contract. He stays through 27 to evaluate the RB23. All bets are off in 2028 if it’s another tractor.

While I am glad Liam gets another bite at the apple with Red Bull, I do hope this decision to put him in the car instead of Tsunoda (who is the reserve driver) does not come back to bite Racing Bulls - especially if Isaac also misses Monza and the Madring.

I understand why they are putting Liam in the RB22 - the 2026 cars are very tricky to drive and he has actual experience thanks to driving the VCARB 03. And Yuki should adapt better to the VCARB than the RB as the car is far more forgiving and he will have his old garage around him.

However, Liam succeeding or failing in the second RB22 will make no difference - the team is going to be fourth in the constructors championship, regardless. However, if Yuki struggles in the VCARB 03, that could cost them their current fifth in the CC considering they are only five points ahead of Alpine. Lawson and Gasly are neck and neck in the WDC and so are Lindblad and Colapinto. With Liam now scoring points for Red Bull, Yuki not only has to score in every round he drives in, he has to score (relatively) well - like 7th or 8th - to stay abreast of Gasly.

Well, I stand corrected. Max has signed with Red Bull through 2030. Should be interesting to see the details, and sponsorship perks.

I'm disappointed. I don't see the RB23 being much more competitive. His annual compensation must have been astronomical.

Rumored contract £202m.

Edit: Added monetary contract estimate.

George Russell must be feeling a lot better now that his position at Mercedes is secure. 😛

As for Max, he really didn't have any options, IMO. Neither Toto nor Zak were going to make him an undisputed #1 when they have Kimi and Lando, respectively. I also do not see either willing to let Max race unobstructed in other series. And I do not see either offering him the compensation package that Red Bull could.

Red Bull has had a significant "brain drain" at the top, but they also appear to have a deep bench in their technical section. And now with Racing Bulls in the same building, there has to be some form of cross-pollination going on as engineers and technicians chat at the water coolers and cantinas. With 4th in the CC locked in, they can afford to stop development on the RB22 and dedicate the remainder of the season to the RB23 (and there are strong signs this is happening).

Oh, Minimum will never experience the real F1, a 1 trick pony with heartwater and 4 broken legs, blind in 1 eye.. Maybe we should call him Eeyore.. Minimum has no imagination, no lead in his pencil, he is a bit of a c word..

I saw reports of €92 million per year with potential bonuses pushing that up by another €20+ million. Over four years he could thus be making close to half a billion Euros from Red Bull alone.

Marc Limacher is reporting its 460 million total. 92 million euros base with bonus' bringing it to a possible 115 million per year. Marc is usually accurate. At least as accurate as one can be be in this type of situation.

What is Minimum so scared of? Clearly has a lot of skeletons in the closet.. Such a wimpish weak pathetic useless decision, cowardly and juvenile..

Why is he so scared to take a risk? Try the Merc, AM, Audi? But no he has to make such a juvenile pathetic decision, to waste the best years maybe with a weaker team? I wonder how much of that was Minimun's decision, or his dad's? Or is he scared of his mom??

Too scared to try life outside of precious little princess's pretty palace?? Forever a child..

I don't think he is worth it to RBR as a racing driver.. Sure maybe from a marketing point, and that is what RBR is, marketing, but there are better drivers in lower ranks, and Minimum is too scared to try, he loves vanilla and is scared to try rum n raisin ice cream.. Minimum is plain rice cake, I bet he has never tried black pudding or a haggis..

TBH he is worth it to RBR. But from his point of view once you have amassed a certain amount of money what difference does it make? He's hardly likely to spend it all!

At one time Bernie supposedly made a remark to that effect the once past a certain amount, anything beyond serves as a means of keeping score.

On a contractual level, I would guess that Max has ensured the inclusion of some favorable clauses that allow him to extricate himself, or have more freedom for extracurricular activities driving in other series.

Spare any concern for Max, or Carlos and Alex, who supposedly received raises to continue to drive the Williams lorries.

Nah, this was was like watching a youtube of someone playing a demo version of F1 1999, nothing happened, all very static, the commentators trying to make this exciting, but watching milk turn sour is more exciting..

Oh joy, an overtake... wow... exciting stuff...1 overtake...

Like getting a rice cake with a hint of extra vanilla...

Then a bit of a wet at the end of the farce...

Still cannot really see a point of this farce of 1 hour then q then a farce, then q then a race... Oh well...

For the record, I prefer Sprint weekends because I prefer watching the cars actually race and not just tootle around like in Free Practice. It also provides a much better benchmark, IMO, to how the Grand Prix is going to unfold.

So seeing Gasly in 8th losing a second a lap the entire run and nobody being able to get past him... And Ocon in 14th and Albon in 16th losing even more time, yet being corks in the bottle... I am guessing part of it is everyone was on Mediums and the track is difficult to pass on except in a handful of areas, but still... I am expecting a procession tomorrow unless it rains.

Ok, then why not record the sprint, and replay it twice on Sunday, as we saw in the Saturday morning farce, 1 overtake, worse than Monaco... So the grid Saturday is Sunday result, why race? We saw nothing useful in the Sat morning farce...Worse than 2 hours of set up/FP.. Why would anyone risk a wreck in the Sat morning? That destroys the weekend... And had it rained and say Minimum was injured to the point of out of the rest of the season??

We saw what this did to Ric back in the day... So what is the value other than farce??

Hoping for rain tomorrow as well to make it interesting. Otherwise expect a bit of a procession.
I think one or both of the Mercedes will get past Lando.

Was it just me that thought post qualifying was funny that Greedo was interviewing Lando? Made me chuckle anyway….

Providing something else to watch for the marks, err customers you overcharged for tickets.

I’m a bit disconnected. I used to follow F1 15 years ago but now it’s been several years that I don’t.

Could I ask you how is Hamilton doing since he became a Ferrari’s driver? I always thought he was a decent driver but he has had great cars during his career. Not that Ferrari isn’t a good car (I’m afraid I’m offending both Ferrari and Hamilton fans) but for many years Ferrari hasn’t been the best or even the second best car.

So, how’s Hamilton doing?

I think Im a nostalgic and will always cherish the years I lived F1 passionately: from 2005 to maybe 2015, then I still followed the F1 but was progressively losing the interest.

2026 was terrible. He did win the Sprint in China, but otherwise had a torrid season and did not gel at all with his race engineer.

For 2027, they replaced his race engineer and listened to his input and he is having a pretty strong season. He won Barcelona and reached the podium in China, Canada, Monaco and Silverstone. He is currently 2nd in the WDC.

Agreed. I’ll check in for the WX conditions initially. Without rain I’m going fishing. 😏
