Could be. Interesting that Vesti was a half-second faster than Antonelli in the same car, while Russell's times were very close across both sessions (.991 and .933).

Yes. That was interesting. George made some comments in the post practice interview that alluded to a "Learning Curve" this weekend...............

Vesti faster than Kimi? You think maybe that maybe if Max has one more tantrum you think he might find himself watching F1 whilst Vesti becomes a 10 times WDC? Red Bull or Christmas Horner buys out Vesti's contract...

Well Antonelli at least dropped the sandbags in FP3, finishing third behind Lando and Lewis by .129. Still think we're looking at a double-podium for Ferrari in qualifying and the race based on their pace this weekend.

Also looks like we're going back to Sepang this year. The Malaysian Prime Minister has stated there will be an announcement on Sunday and I expect he would not be talking if that announcement was "nothing to see here".

Race in Sepang would be cool. I have been to Kuala Lumpur twice and it was great. Second time did the Petronas Towers tour. Good stuff. The outdoor barter market is also fun. I might actually consider flying there if this is true depending on what work is doing. I had no idea the circuit was right by the airport. lol.

Sepang? At this time might be a bit more floaty boaty... Very monsoony and not a great time for a race, more like a Spa than a Las Vegas desert...

Lewis should have a 3 place grid penalty for impeding Oscar.

Piastri was shown the Blue Flag to let Lewis by when Piastri was on his out lap, but then they didn't tell him until too late that Piastri was now on a fast lap. So arguably they should give Lewis the drop, but hopefully they do not and instead reprimand the team.

In FP1 Martin Brundle referred to a stand mounted microphone with a dead rat, as it is called on it to a 'fuzzy thing that makes the cars sound' or some such speak.

Martin, it's a microphone similar to that object that you are holding in your hand.
He probably knows it's a microphone but I laughed.

Are present and former drivers utterly stupid outside the narrow field in which they specialize?

That's a rhetorical question.

I throughly enjoy Sky commentary compared to the alternatives offered on Apple TV, no hard feelings Martin!

In other commentary, Ted stars a sentence with the word 'Right' countless times. It's a new drinking game.

Here at the bottom end of Africa, we used to have F1 on the national broadcaster, then along came Mnet, a private network, and over time they morphed into DSTV, and the sports section was called SuperSport, F1/F2/F3 is broadcast on Supersport...

But the holding company ran out of money, was bought by Canal+ from France.. At the start of the 2026 we were unsure of what we would get.. France and England usually don't play well... To get Sky comms was a suprise...

I would have expected some low ball world feed, as we get with Indy500, the cheapest grade coverage.. No replay, live action, no commentary, then random cameras.. Low grade...

Beggars cannnot really choice what they get.. We have Sky, it is great, and fingers crossed it lasts.. Maybe Canal+ will bin the contract as soon as they can, and go with some US media, hopefully Sky remains...

What is strange is we get the Porsche Super-Cup a week after, 20 min highlights edit.. Not live on the day..

There is a very very strong demand here for a sports only service, you pay for the sports you want, but the sat/stream service, Canal+ is not keen.. Very few folks watch any of the other channels, 90% of subscribers are pure sports, the other channels, repeats and very stale old episodes.."New" Mythbusters.. Most of the crew are in retirement...Bad, truly scary awful bad.. And many channels are sourced from Eastern Europe-Poland etc, often very odd adverts are played by accident..

No swimming in Port St. John’s. 😉

Sepeng it is.... 1st weekend of October... boaty mcboatface might win the race, very wet at the end of the monsoon season..

It is the Bahrain GP hosted by Malaysia ..

Formula 1 and the FIA can confirm that Malaysia will host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit from October 2-4 2026, between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix.

The event, which is subject to final agreements and official sign-off, including the approval of the World Motor Sport Council, will become the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.

This agreement, reached between Formula 1, the FIA, the Government of Bahrain, and the Government of Malaysia, allows Formula 1 to preserve a Grand Prix that would otherwise not have happened. The rest of the schedule for 2026 remains unchanged.

Congratulations to Lando. Great drive. McLaren looking strong again.

Regardless of the VSC.

Drive of the season: Max’s 3rd stint. Masterclass performance.

Pass of the season: Max on Lewis in Turn1.

Strategist of season: Hanna Schmitz soft tire call on stint 3.

Summer break should be interesting. 😏

Max wanted to drop the car, haulers, catering hut in the ocean, Max will not be happy with 2nd.. As far as he was concerned he might as well have not finished the race.. Was kind of surprised he did not park it in pit lane on the last lap out of protest...

He’s never satisfied with anything than P1. VSC or not, what a call from Hanna. Putting him on used softs with 29 to go knowing she had the driver to do it.

Hanna Schmitz for Galactic Overlord. 😉

I suspect when the new team for F1 starts poaching, she is on the list.. I hope she commands an insane salary.. She has earned it.. Cannot be easy telling a 4 time WDC where to park his attitude..

I’d imagine this will emerge. She has earned it. I’d like to see her stay at RB if Max stays. She is Director of Racing Strategy at RB currently. I’ve never really been able to read if she’s happy there or not. I’d imagine it’s more than simply salary with someone of her character.

Lots of changes coming in the next few months…..😏

Well done Lando. He got the best out of that McLaren all weekend.
Felt sorry for Oscar. I wonder if his gearbox suffered from an issue due to his collision with Carlos?

All the back markers need to have a stern talking to. They love to hand out penalties like they are going out of fashion. But some of those lapped cars should get penalties in my opinion.

George must be wondering what he has done to piss off the racing gods.

You have to feel for George. His luck this season has been absolutely dreadful.

Absolutely. It was interesting. At the start Marcus said to George "It was anti-stall." Then in the Cool-Down room Kimi instantly knew it was George topping out the battery at the start and loosing his boost. As in, he's experienced it before.

So much for the new ECU/CE firmware.

Lando stated in the post presser Will was telling him to stay off all curbs after Oscar had the gearbox failure.

Evidently there was an issue with the system that activates a blue light in the cockpit informing the drivers that they have been shown a blue flag, but the drivers should be keeping an eye out for the blue flag billboards and the engineers should be informing the drivers they have leaders coming up behind them and to be prepared to let them past.

Also, some of the drivers being passed (like Hamilton and Sainz) were somewhat hamstrung due to being in areas where they could not really pull aside, hence why they were given 5 second impeding penalties instead of the standard 10 seconds.
