Here at the bottom end of Africa, we used to have F1 on the national broadcaster, then along came Mnet, a private network, and over time they morphed into DSTV, and the sports section was called SuperSport, F1/F2/F3 is broadcast on Supersport...
But the holding company ran out of money, was bought by Canal+ from France.. At the start of the 2026 we were unsure of what we would get.. France and England usually don't play well... To get Sky comms was a suprise...
I would have expected some low ball world feed, as we get with Indy500, the cheapest grade coverage.. No replay, live action, no commentary, then random cameras.. Low grade...
Beggars cannnot really choice what they get.. We have Sky, it is great, and fingers crossed it lasts.. Maybe Canal+ will bin the contract as soon as they can, and go with some US media, hopefully Sky remains...
What is strange is we get the Porsche Super-Cup a week after, 20 min highlights edit.. Not live on the day..
There is a very very strong demand here for a sports only service, you pay for the sports you want, but the sat/stream service, Canal+ is not keen.. Very few folks watch any of the other channels, 90% of subscribers are pure sports, the other channels, repeats and very stale old episodes.."New" Mythbusters.. Most of the crew are in retirement...Bad, truly scary awful bad.. And many channels are sourced from Eastern Europe-Poland etc, often very odd adverts are played by accident..
