I think they should focus on making great cars instead. And outsource their infotainment system. They already do it with their speakers, some cars have Bose or Burmester speakers. I wont get a car that wont support carplay.
They can support car play without turning over their entire car operating system to apple. These future Porsches will support the current car play as do current Porsches.

Maybe it is time to make your own car? 🧐

A year ago I didn't understand why Apple thought they could build a car. Looking at how Xiaomi have broken through with the SU7, I now think this adds even more questions at Apple's door about why they couldn't get a car out of the door.

that settles it, Porsche will not be my next car. Well, that plus the money.
ironically, the 911 in the last 5 years is the only one who kept its starting price point, while the other brands increased it in any model by at least 30%

Well, at least it will have SOME sort of Car Play. GM is dropping Car Play in all their 2026 models. Which is about as smart as Stellantis dropping the Hemi.

Wildfire rumors about that Stellantis is re starting Hemi production in Detroit as soon as August. Why? No one is buying their 6-cylinder trucks. The new twin turbos are buggy (really who wants a super complicated twin turbo built by Chrysler? It sounds like nightmare fuel 5 years from now) and people want 8 bangers in full size pickups.

Same thing will happen to GM. Car Play will be back inside of a year. It'll be a sales KILLER.

I'm looking at new trucks. Ram is OFF the list because of the engine issues. If it's GM, it'll be this year. I'm not buying a vehicle without Car Play in it. So maybe a Ram is it goes into next year.

The Fords are getting too many recalls. Pass for now.

Is anyone here under the delusion that integrating Apple CarPlay into multiple automakers' proprietary control systems was going to be easy???

Nor automatics.

Consider VW owns Audi and share several platforms, it makes sense.
Same as toyota with lexus. But audi have ppc or ppe platforms and difference engineers and parts..a different category
Seat is also under vw so seat makes sense to be in the same league with audi or bentley?!

Personally, I'd like to see a new Porsche without ANY screens - an analogue speedo, lots of cool buttons and switches for controlling the aircon and audio etc ... I look at screens the whole day and when I drive, the last thing I want is more screens. I just want to turn them off and focus on the drive.

As long as Audis get it, I'm good. The only other car I'd maybe consider is a Mercedes or VW.
Don’t hold your breath. Porsche now openly share platforms with Audi, and the latter’s new generation Panorma dash tech in their MY2026 models is Android based, and that will last 4-5 years judging by previous lifespans.

This news is very significant. An early adopter, Porsche are not announcing compatibility as it’s obvious now that CarPlay 2.0 (fully integrated) is, at best, stuck in development, or at worst, stillborn.

Even if you’re optimistic (ignoring the Siri/AI debacle) by the time Apple sort it, the car industry may well have moved on.

At least our 2017 Hondas don’t have that crippled CarPlay where ya can’t scroll through music while driving
I have an aftermarket CarPlay screen on mine (this one, which I highly recommend).

Regarding the music, yeah, the interface is super limited. But that's by design and for a good reason: I'm in a 3000+ pound vehicle going down the road up to like 100 feet per second, so kind of the wrong time to be d*cking around on the screen looking for "the right song". I generally get around the issue by queueing up a big playlist and skipping tracks with media control button on the steering wheel.

Here's my big and possibly naive question about these gigantic new CarPlay screen designs: what happens to them if you don't have an iPhone? Does Android Auto have a way to utilize them? Do they fall back to some onboard function?

BS, how can you put VW in the same league with Merc or Audi?! Is like putting Toyota in the same league with Lexus
In terms of tech, there’s surprisingly a few features available as options on higher-end VWs that aren’t offered in their Audi siblings.

Off the top of my head, stuff like “snow-mode” blue HUD and Akrapovič exhausts. And VW was first to provide wireless CarPlay a good 12 months before Audi got their act together. As for Mercedes, I drove a rental EQC400 last year, straight from the factory. €80,000 and yet I still had to go out and buy a cable to use CarPlay
