Apple's 20th anniversary iPhone is expected to arrive in the fall of 2027 with the most significant redesign the device has seen since the iPhone X.

Mostly-Screen-iPhone-Purple-Feature-2027.jpg

The first iPhone was announced in January 2007 and went on sale that June, meaning the device's 20th anniversary technically falls on June 29, 2027. Apple rarely launches new high-end iPhones outside of its September timeframe, and the anniversary models are still expected to arrive in the fall of that year, just as the iPhone X did in 2017 despite marking the 10th anniversary of a device that launched in June.

The 2027 model has been rumored for well over a year, with reports pointing to an all-glass design, new display technology, and a series of upgrades Apple has been working toward for several generations. Much as the iPhone X set the template for the years of iPhones that followed, the anniversary model is likely to define the device's design direction for some time.

Apple could skip the name "iPhone 19" in the same way it skipped "iPhone 9" ahead of the iPhone X in 2017, with rumors so far variably referring to the device as the "iPhone 20" and the "iPhone XX." Here is everything that has been rumored for the device so far:... Click here to read rest of article

Who wants an all-glass design? I sure don’t need the edges of my phone to give me information… text, colors, flashing…. no thanks.

Using more glass seems like a good way for Apple to rack up a few billion dollars extra revenue from replacing iPhones with cracked glass. Most people will still want a case on the phone, because phone repair or replacement is not cheap. So what is the point of glass edges or all glass for the consumer?

This is just the sort of splash a product specialist described as a “hardware guy” would like to make early in his CEO tenure.
I sincerely hope the focus returns to hardware. The tactility of hardware done right can be so satisfying for a user. Hardware can't hide sloppy design or cheap manufacturing. It has to be right first time - which takes effort.

OTOH, software's malleability may be one of its greatest advantages as a product but, because it can be updated in production so easily, it often feels like all we ever get are betas. Nothing's ever finished. Polished.

And just to be clear, I'm referring to all vendors here. Apple's by far one of the better ones.

Based on the mere fact it's the 20th anniversary iPhone assures rather robust sales.

Conversely based purely on what features it offers, the incremental improvements are rather unremarkable. There's little to get excited about. Ho hum, just another model in the lineup.

Existing models of the last few years offer excellent performance, durability and a full complement of features. Why replace a perfectly good device.

Buyers addicted to shiny and new are likely to be Apples primary audience.

It remains to be seen exactly what the edges of the display will do— one would think they would have some sort of information on them like Samsung's version but it's also possible Apple is just doing it for the cool aesthetic factor. We don't know.
Of course, I’ll buy one… That’s what I do. 😎

Is this the connector-less, button-less, all solid, glass soap bar that’s been rumored for the past several years!? I know ID folks hates vents, grills, ports, edges... but...

Say goodbye to my iphone 17 pro max. This may be my first compulsive buy since the X, if the rumours pan out.

So, what you're saying is that I should buy an iPhone Pro 18 this fall to replace my ailing old iPhone, then buy an iPhone 20th Anniversary Edition next year? Will that be an iPhone 19 or 20?

I’ll probably hold off on upgrading to the iPhone 18 Pro Max and wait for this phone. However, I’m trying to understand the excitement around its display.

While the technology may be significantly more advanced, the overall design reminds me of the curved-edge approach that Samsung pioneered with the Galaxy S6 Edge years ago. So I’m wondering: is the innovation in the display's appearance, or is it in the underlying engineering, such as improved durability, reduced distortion, better touch rejection, higher efficiency, or something else entirely?

Another practical question is protection. If the screen wraps around nearly every side, how will protective cases work? Most high-protection cases depend on raised bezels, which seems difficult to achieve on a device with minimal frame exposure.

The concept definitely looks futuristic, but I’m interested in knowing what tangible benefits it offers beyond aesthetics.

"Introducing... the all new full-chassis wraparound screen protector! It is as useless as you think it is!"
The UAG Pathfinder did a great job with my Galaxy S8, I'm sure a similar case would be popular for a curved iphone.

All I can picture based on this description though is the S8. But maybe with how psychotic Apple have been over the years, this will be the first portless iPhone.

You don’t know if this special anniversary iPhone is just incremental
Improvements or a massive overhaul that makes way for some new design imperative or other….i mean iPhone X ditched Touch ID and allowed the bezels to be toned down significantly and paved the way for so many years of a similar yet always improving design…this iPhone xx sounds like it may just do that all over again…

If it's anything like iPhone X, hard pass.

??? What’ was wrong with X?

I Never had it, only got the 12 pro just before 13 series was coming out so I missed all those early faceID generations….ive heard nothing but good things abt X…it was a radicle redesign that paved the way for iPhone 17 and beyond all these years later…plus it improved the cameras as well.

I’d go so far as to say that even today iPhone X sounds like an amazing device to have just to use as an iPod or something…

I think we all misunderstand this rumor. I expect this to be akin to the Apple Watch: curved glass that seamlessly blends into the chassis. Haptic side buttons creating smooth sides. The whole thing feeling like a smooth pebble. I don't expect Apple to put any glass on the sides, let alone any pixels.

But what do I know?
