I just want a replica of the original iPhone with an OLED display and up to date internals. Announced at a LIVE event, with the words "But there is one more thing." C'mon Tim, let us have some fun!!
Apple doesn't do live events anymore.

Have iPhone 15. I'm holding out for this model to upgrade.
That's not really holding out... I have a 12, and I'm doubtful I'll upgrade to this.

IDK, maybe I should be happy? Smart phones have become appliances... I don't replace them because there's new features, I buy them because the old one stopped working, hopefully after 10+ years.

I replaced my 8+ just because it wasn't getting new iOS versions anymore and work requires that I have the latest security patches installed.

Phones without a bezel are difficult to type on without the palm of the thumb causing errors. I had a couple of Samsung phones with no bezel designs and needed to put them in a chunky case to avoid constantly pressing the shift key with my palm. I really hope that if Apple goes without a bezel that it will not do it for very long. But really, the next iPhone I buy will be a second generation foldable so I guess that doesn't matter.

I agree with you on everything other than the “Camera Pill” comment. There is a very good reason why the Dynamic Island is there. Android users likely do not believe it, but FaceID is far more secure than any authentication available for Android and that is why the “Camera Pill”, as you call it, is there. They will match the lackluster competition once the technology allows FaceID to be small enough. Android’s face authentication is similar in marketing only.
the way I would literally send the whitepaper on Face ID in the early days of it just to be like “if yall wanna argue THAT hard about it…” (thank you for this comment)

honestly can’t see Apple making such a crass design decision…then again, they did actually release the 17PM looking like that lol

If Apple doesn't deliver something like a literally all-screen phone for the anniversary, people are going to be very disappointed.

I don't get the appeal of having display around the edges. How often will you sit and look at the image on the edge? Will photo's wrap around so you'll need to turn your phone around from every angle to see the entire picture? Also, didn't Samsung do this on the S6?
If they can make the all-screen somehow drop proof, then you won't need a case. And you'll be able to make your phone any colour you want, it could even intelligently change colour based on what you're wearing. And yes if the cameras and microphones were in enough places then you could pick it up at any of four orientations without even checking if it's the right one.

If I don’t need sunglasses to look at it, I don’t want it.

So... you have to turn the phone edge-on to see what the controls do, or whether you have notifications?
...which you have to do because the physical buttons get replaced with touch controls?

Honestly, it's already bad enough with current thin-bezel phones that you can't pick up or hand to someone without triggering some new gesture feature added in the latest software update and then spending the next 5 minutes trying to work out how to turn it off.
If Apple wants to make a "seamless sheet of glass" iPhone like Steve Jobs wanted, something will need to be done to have working side buttons or controls. I was simply giving some initial speculations about highly speculative rumors (guesses).

how many use a phone case? (its a necessity at this point)

So what good is 'wrap-around' display once you cover with a case?
•1st make the phones so we don't NEED a case —then add wraparound
•making super thin phones (17air) that are hard to handle-on-the-go—make them reasonably thicker with more battery, or thicker/sturdier so we don't NEED case?

Not a fan of a screen that curves on the edges…

Aside from that, let’s hope they use this new OLED technology on the regular iPhone 18, and that they improve even further the “reduce PWM” feature so that they manage to eliminate almost all of the pulses or flickers. The current iPhone 17 seems to do a good job but still flickers a bit.

Just having that option on the iPhone 17 signals that Apple is aware of the issue, and gives me hope that Apple is taking ocular health into account and we may see improvements in that direction. Let’s cross our fingers.
There is not much improvement sadly. The display is the same and it's still using 480Hz PWM. With the new option turned ON, there is still flickering.

You can see where they are going:

Something like the Air, but using the next generation of Ceramic Shield to create the entire chassis, a little like the chassis of the iPhone pro 17
An iPhone back shell made of one piece of glass Ceramic Shield as comments from Joz already mentions that with the LG and iPhone Air the intent is for customers to be holding a piece of glass.

Chances are it probably be reinforced with some metal probably Ti frame in the inside for added durability.

If there is going to be some display on the back it will probably be where the glass element is on the present iPhone 17 Pro but that asks the question is MagSafe going to charge over a display or something else.

Discussing a product that is 2 years away is silly; I wouldn’t even trust any iPhone 18 rumors until Feb/March of next year.

The anniversary iPhone will always be more expensive so most likely it will be the folding iPhone. 📱 💰
No way will it be the folding phone-- nobody will be able to afford it. It will be the same form factor as the original and I wouldn't be surprised if they introduce an entirely new model as the anniversary phone, apart from the regular and Pro lines.
