So how do you carry it through the day? Is it on you most all the time? Is it in a shirt pocket, belt clip case, 'man bag' or something else? When it's not in your hand and you bend to grab some clothing from the floor, pour pet food in a bowl, grab a pair of shoes or what-have-you, what keeps it from occasionally falling?

I'm trying to get an understanding because in discussions like this it often seems like people live in different worlds, where for example dropping an iPhone is a rarity or a commonality.

I’ve never had an issue with phones (or anything for that matter) falling out of the front pockets of my pants, even when bending over

no bezels? that looks like a recipe for disaster.

drop the font and it will self destruct in no time, or put a case on and you won't see the feature anyway...

You’re still hung up on this? That happened six years ago. Time to move on brother.
galaxy fold was released 6 years ago

weird how you didn't mention it when the argument was supporting samsung, but OH when it's attacking samsung, it's "time to move on", despite both things happening 6 years ago.

COMEDY 🤣

sure, I'll move on as I'll leave it at that. Have a good one.

Good info. So depending on whether and what one carries in his pockets, and likely whether it’s a Plus or Max sized phone could impact feasibility. This helps understand why different people report such different lived experiences.

Multiple reviewers and even companies recommend buying a case.

That broken screen may not have been an inconvenience to you, but add up all those broken screens because of not using a case and the environmental cost is huge.

iPhones are not designed to be rugged without a case. The Ceramic Shield is still quite fragile despite all the advances.
One broken screen since 2007 versus all those junk cases that would probably just get thrown away, not even recycled. iPhones are plenty rugged - again, I’ve had them since the OG.

Of course you can't draw much from a person having a single broken phone incident since you can't know if it's a 1/1M thing or a 1/100 thing for them -- you just know it happened once. People are so different. Obviously not having a case increases your chance though you could go a life without a case and not have a problem. If you're on your phone a lot then that ups the chance of maybe someone bumping you and dropping it. I dropped mine once getting ready to take a photo of my dog playing with another dog and they bumped me. I dropped mine once trying to carry too much out of my car. I've never broken mine but then I have a case and only rarely drop the phone. Everyone is unique

I use a case for two reasons:
1. I like the better grip and feel of my case.
2. I traveled a lot for work and toss my phone in my carryon, so the case minimizes scratching as well as offers some protection for the camera bump.

However, it is a personal choice and to each tehir own; and , of course, YMMV.
Yeah, and I get that people are pretty reckless with their devices. I find cases only reinforce that behavior. Using my phones raw for almost 20 years, it’s never been a problem. There’s just normal habits that get developed, like not putting keys in my pocket with my phone, or just literally not throwing it on a desk or table. I think this originally developed when people wanted to try and maintain a pristine device, either for clout or resale. I never cared for either, but my devices were never dinged up or scratched always, even when traveling the country for work. It’s the argument that the cases are necessary that is dumb.

Another handy use for a case is a good wallet case. Mine holds my important cards very securely and it doesn't look like a wallet at all which is maybe a bit more secure. And I like the better grip. Over the years I've had minor incidents where I maybe tripped on a rock or log in the mountains, got bumped watching my dogs play, etc. The phone would likely survive all those cases pretty well if they caused me to drop it, but given the other advantages I figure why not. I certainly have no reason to show off the bare phone.
At any rate, while a case isn't strictly needed, I feel quite sure Apple knows many want one and whatever they design will work fine with a case.

I’m having a difficult time understanding what this sentence means.
If you carry keys in both pockets, for example (quite possible if you have separate work and home keys and too much in one pocket irritates your leg), or for whatever reason often have things in your pockets that might scratch up your iPhone, the pocket's less practical to count on.

Depending on how loose or tight your pants are, whether pocket contents tend to remain forward or shift to the side, and how narrow your chairs are and how rigid the arms, can affect what kind of stress is put on your phone. A Plus or Pro iPhone is taller, and thus might be subject to more applied stress.

The TLDR version is that a pants pocket may work well for carrying some iPhones for some people, but not for everybody.

I couldn’t imagine carrying a phone any other way

I guess I’ve never really thought about it that much. I just put things in my pockets and have never had any trouble

Is it that hard to look after your phone? I'm sure there would be cases with see through elements, if in fact it does get released. No different to fold up and fold out phones now.
right? lol I haven’t used a case in like 3 or 4 years at this point.

the phones just look and feel too goo. and I am responsible / not clumsy. haven’t broken any of ‘em.

Funny how different everyone is. Now and then I take mine out of the case and I really don't like handling it bare. Slides around in my hand a bit making it a small bit slow to maneuver to tap something. I'm sure that's just a matter of adapting but still. Besides, it holds my important cards nice and secure so I can just reach for my phone and go and have everything I need. And I couldn't care less about the looks.

Why does this have to happen? I convinced people want bezels and interesting ones, it will be the new thing.
