Apple would need to include free glass break coverage to make this make any sense, otherwise a required case ruins the effect

or customizing home screen icon layout.... or copy and paste....or Always on Display...home screen widgets...digital assistant....customizable toolbar....icons colors and themes.

Lets be clear here...they BOTH copy from each other.

Yes they do break more easily. Samsung made phones like this for years and a lot of people avoided buying them due to how much easier they are to break when dropped. Plus they don't do well with tempered glass screen protectors.
Yep, a wrap-around glass iPhone would be disposable. Once chipped or scratched, it would almost require throwing it away and requiring a new one.

I would strongly argue that the Galaxy S8 aesthetic should have won out over the iPhone X. Having thinner top and bottom bezels is much more elegant than that bloody notch or its punch-hole successor. The curved edge screen was a really nice thing to use, and enabled the use of swipe-in pop-ups without blocking the main display.

It sounds like Apple are going with something similar to the Huawei P40 Pro design with its 4-sided curved display.
I viewed that kinda like the Touch Bar, something nice that could have worked if universally adopted, but it didn't seem to ever reach escape velocity. I still preferred the X aesthetics... something about the precise evenness of those bezels was just awesome, and I thought the notch was weird but acceptable for how cool faceID was at the time... but agree the S8 was also interesting and striking for its time!

"Samsung manufactures its own"
"Apple makes others manufacture its products"

"Samsung throws spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks"
"Apple measures twice and cuts once"

Hope that helps
oh...Like AI and Apple Intelligence? Apple is typically late to the game with new technology following others lead.

"Samsung manufactures its own"
"Apple makes others manufacture its products"

Samsung develops technology...then Apple pays Samsung to include that technology into iPhones...got it...

"Samsung throws spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks"
"Apple measures twice and cuts once"

Samsung develops new technology and makes folding and flip phones. Apple fans say there is no need for such phones and it is "Samsung throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks". later Apple is going to make a folding phone....... Got it...

Hope this helps you....

Do you have stats on that?

There has been several surveys, but here is the first one I found, 86%, and other surveys have similar results.

As I've posted before, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen an iPhone user without a case.

That data is from 2014

So? Do you think less people use cases now? Hardly.

With my work-issued phone, I had to sign an agreement to never use it without it's included case.

I don't care enough to continue posting research. People use cases, and Apple needs to accept that and keep it in mind..that's all.

I know I’m in the minority here, but I don’t use a case. I use a vinyl wrap on the back and sides to add a bit of grip, but that’s it.

I take care of my tech, but little drops and scratches happen over the years. I enjoy the sleek form factor of the tech, accepting that some damage is inevitable, rather than put a bulky case on it.

This is all with AppleCare in case of a major accident.

That’s just me, though. You do you. I simply wanted to voice the other side of the coin.
I don't use cases on my phones either, not even on my foldables. I just put a skin on the back for added grip, and that's it. I haven't dropped a cell phone in years (knocks on wood). It's really not that difficult for me to remember to take care of a $2000 device. But, I tend to take care of everything I own.

Yes. It’s 11 years ago. I’d say that’s reason enough
It seems to me that unless there’s some reason to believe that case usage might have decreased, there’s no reason to doubt that the data probably are consistent with present usage. Why, in your view, would case usage have dropped significantly since then?

It’s entirely possible

The glass is a lot stronger now

That's not the only reason people use cases, and it's equally possible that it's 95% now... Some others:

  • Colors. Apple doesn't really offer much, so cases give it.
  • Feels better in the hand. Grips better.
  • Lip for the screen so you don't put your screen directly on a surface. I always lay my phones face down..makes it easier to pick up, too.
  • Lets the camera sit flat on it's back for people who sit their phone down that way.
  • Protects camera lenses! They do break, and I've seen it.
  • Stronger magnets when using magsafe accessories.
I'm with number two. I don't like the feel of a glass and metal phone. I'd rather have a nice textured grip that is a bit thicker... Naked iPhones just don't feel good to hold.

So you just assume that 11 year old tech industry data applies to the present day‽‽‽

I see no reason to assume that 11 year old data would be consistent with present facts.

oh...Like AI and Apple Intelligence?
What? No, that's off topic. Nothing to do with explaining Apple doing the "opposite".

Samsung develops technology...then Apple pays Samsung to include that technology into iPhones...got it...

It's funny how it reminds of the story where Toshiba "developed" 1.8" HDD and told Apple that they had no idea what to do with it. Apple bought exclusive rights to use the tech and that gave birth to the iPod, the product that essentially saved Apple and paved the way for the iPhone to which Samsung just copied left and right. "Developing" the technology means nothing if you don't know how it can benefit the user lol.

And another reason why Samsung can do it so "quickly" is that Google develops the operating system, not Samsung. Meanwhile Apple develops is own operating system. So while Samsung just sits back and relax to wait for Google to come up with the next major OS release, Apple designs and develops both the hardware and software and lets others mass produce the hardware. There goes your argument.

So yeah, hope you got it now. Not sure what your argument is as I've simply been answering questions but now you're really trying to argue against me about something that doesn't need to be debated. Anyways I'm moving on.
