there are trade offs to keeping the phone at 100-% too

I think 40-80 or 30-80 is the ideal range
For the battery to be kept at rather than constantly drained to 0 or plugged in at 100
Agreed. I've seen more of an effect from 40-80 than anything. So with my 12 Pro Max I'm actually doing this all the time now. Amazing how I adapt to it - I can almost always pull it off at 80% (or within a few %) without even thinking about it now. :p
Any percentage is okay taking into account the battery doesn’t remain at that level for a long period.

I sold my XS Max after 2 years 2 months, and it had 99% of the original battery capacity. My main charging habits were:
1) avoiding daily charging to 100%
2) rarely letting battery go below 30% (and not leaving it too long at depleted levels)
3) minimal wireless charging (iphone heats up noticeably vs when wired).

For context, my charging sources were mainly 15W power adapters from older Apple iPad Pro/Air and CarPlay charging from my vehicle.

Currently, I charge my 12 Pro Max with the 20W Apple power block and same 15W. I plan to use the same method above.
