You know that sense of wonder and amazement you get when you see one of the 27" models at the store? Want that feeling every day? Go for it!

Yeah I've had mine for nearly 2 years and it still puts a smile on my face. Don't miss my Macbook Pro one bit. An iMac and iPhone are all you need for 90% of tasks these days.

I really love my 27" I bought 2.5 years ago. If you have the money and the desk space, it is certainly the way to go. There is nothing like having more pixels.

My first iMac was a 21.5" and I loved it. However, now that I also have a 27", it does feel small when I use it. If you can afford it, go for the 27".

Goin thru this myself. I'm getting into heavy video editing, and trying to decide if I should go for a beast 21.5 or a base 27 inch for the better real estate. Although I should prolly go for much quicker, snappier editing/encoding/rendering from the i7 and hyperthreading.....man that 27 inch screen just sounds too damn sexy to pass up!

Having said that, I still gotta wait till the end of the month to see if these dang iMac updates come out with Mountain Lion:/

And then Haswell comes next year...prolly end up selling whatever I get for the new Intel tock anyways.

Is there a big difference between the graphics cards in the base models of 21.5" and the 27"? I know they have the same memory capacity but in terms of the actual cards?

From what i've read it just seems a lil more peppy. Just another perk for moving above the base model I suppose.

Is 60cm enough desk depth for a 27" or should one really go for something more like 75cm desk depth.

Actually, when it comes to games, the base 21.5 should be comparable to the base 27 considering that the 27 has way more pixels to push.
The high end 21.5 which has the same GPU as that in the base 27 should perform markedly better for the same reasons.

Mine are 75, but I just did some measuring and based on where I position my keyboards and mice, 60 would do. But it all depends on your stature. Look up references on computer ergonomics, there is a large section on the Apple website about this as well. Design your work area to fit your body.

Go 27

I upgraded from a 20" G5 around 7 months ago. At first I was going to go with the 21.5" since it was already bigger than what I had. Last minute I saw a 27" refurb on Apple store and for the value it didn't make sense not to buy it instead, and after using it I am glad I did. Like someone else said, you'll never hear someone complain their screen is too big. I've set this computer up at eye-level just like my old one and have had no back pain like I used to with my previous computer since I don't have to look down to see my screen, it almost fills my entire field of vision - it is great! I also checked (since I was putting it up on a stand) and my new 27" only weighs a couple pounds more than my old isight G5.

I did think that a 27" screen was obnoxiously huge the first time I took it out of the box, but if Apple made a larger screen iMac it wouldn't upset me.

After having a look at the US refurb prices, I would simply go with the 27" and if you really need more width to view more pages, just pick up an external display. The price difference isn't that great, but the 27" really removes all the restrictions that you could possibly have (particularly with height as well).

Dude

May I suggest you take a look into BaseKit for your next wysiwyg website builder. I've made plenty of freelance sites with them.

Some examples

www.iphone5experiment.com and www.pinkylaing.com

And I also would go with the 27"!

Cheers

I have the 27" iMac. I love how big the screen is. This thing is a BEAST. It's great for doing webwork. I made a Website also using iWeb as the OP did. It was great having all the space. If you can afford the 27 go for it. I'm actually typing all this on it right now. With the 27" I no longer needed to have dual screens as I did with my old white intel iMac from 2006. You'll love it. I also got this one under the Refurb store and saved myself a good $500 when I upgraded which was also pretty nice.
