I read in the Green Guide (Australian media/technology section of The Age) (27/7/06) that Apple have registered the names Cougar and Lynx for future OS releases. Does anyone else have any information about this?

The paragraph says:
The Age said:
And just in case you think Apple is about to run out of big-pussycat names, the company has registered Cougar and Lynx. After that, well, you could always write to Steve with a feline suggestion. But avoid mentions of lions.

Pretty sure Cougar and Lynx have been registered for a fairly long time now, at least in the States.

I reckon Lynx would be a great name, Puma and Cougar are pretty synonymous with each other as are Panther/Leopard/Jaguar. Lynx is just so different - a big cat from the cold snowy mountains.

can't think of any other big cats..
what do you think the theme for 11 will be?

I'm thinking: BIRDS. that's where it's at.

10.6 Hummingbird ........cuz its so zippy

big cats!

well lynx is nice, and not necessarily just from snowy areas. a friend of mine found a lynx kitten in Toronto in the fifties. of course there's still ocelot, nice sounding, the Manx cat (indigenous to that Isle) or the fastest land animal: cheetah. perhaps they'll save that for XI!

10.0 Cheetah
10.1 Puma
10.2 Jaguar
10.3 Panther
10.4 Tiger
10.5 Leopard

10.6???

How about European Cave Lion - biggest cat to ever live, weighed between 600 and 700 pounds and was around 3.5m in length. Don't know how the Liger measures up but the Liger only exists because of human intervention - I know it's a damned big animal though...

I remember myself thinking about other names for OS's they will come up with, as in 10.6 and 10.7 and etc. I thought of cougar, but not Lynx. I bet by the time they reach 10.8 they will run out of names.

first i hear Woodcrest..same name as my JR High school...

now i hear Cougars the similar name(Cortez Cougars) as my Elementary school..

these schools are getting famous :)

These are rather wimpy cats compared to Tigers, Leopards and Cheetahs.

How about just plain old Lion?

Even though you can run the big 3 OS's on a Mac now, I'm guessing Calico is out of the question. I only say this because I have an unusually sociable calico.

Sadly, with 10.4.6 being Tiger, there's nowhere to go but down in terms of cat size.

when the get farther down the road, they're just going to have to go with hybrids, like:

Liger
or
Tigon

which DO exist by the way!!
