Let's rather collect ideas for the battery saving that Apple can bring with an iOS update:

- Toggle for wifi / bluetooth should really turn them off!!
and not just disconnect the current connection

- weather widget does not have to query the location EVERY time
(query setting for every x - xx minutes/hours should come)

- more economical use of location services

Remove AirTags is such a strange suggestion
AirTags are the number one reason for battery drain when not actively using the phone, in my experience. So it can make sense to reconsider if you really need them on your account.

I always look forward to these posts when a new phone/OS release comes out.

Turn this off, disable that, limit this, stop using that, delete this, and don't forget to remove that!

At that point you might as well just go buy a cheap dumb Nokia phone.

Turn off BT. Stops other people’s AirTags from using your battery and data as well. Problem solved.

This is one of he worst articles I even seen on MR.

Get a IPhone 10 if you do as suggested. One doesn’t get the latest iPhone and turn off all/most the useful features.
The article isn't suggesting that everyone do all of this all of the time with their iPhones. It's pointing out that these are things to consider if you're in a situation where you need to extend the battery life. I normally run with everything enabled, but sometimes have long days away from where I can charge that disabling a few things here and there that I don't need can make a huge difference in battery life.

Another one to add to the list:
Turn of "Talk to Siri"

You can still engage it with the side button or the talk button in CarPlay.

This also saves Apple Watch battery life if you turn it off there.

Am I the only one that has issues with automatic dark home screen icons on the iPhone 15? Every time I enable it, everything turns dark at night as it's supposed to, but it doesn't turn back into light mode during daytime.

Also, there's a weird issue with my iPhone 15 battery, where it drains battery from my Clicks keyboard overnight (at least that's what the Settings app says), but it's not connected overnight. Ghost drain?

Lastly, there's a weird bug with the charge to 90% option: most of the time it charges to 100%, even though it's supposed to stop at 90%. Is that normal? I know it's supposed to charge to 100% sometimes with 90 enabled, but for me it's more like 7 out of 10 times that it charges to 100.

Btw, my iPhone 15 is only a few months old, so relatively new still.

Dead phone? No problem, buy a new one )))The battery then will not degrade at all.And how happy Apple will be, you can't imagine.

It's much simpler than that. You need to give full access to the processor settings, as in Steam Deck - give the ability to independently adjust the limitation of the total power and speed of the processor.

You're implying that people are stressed about their battery because it has gotten old and won't hold a charge as well and so need a new one That's only a small percentage of those stressing. The larger group are those that either use their phone a lot and/or are having some bug or such that is overtaxing the phone. And of course most people aren't stressing about their battery life at all and get through each day without problem. And for those that do have an old battery it's a simple trip to the Apple Store to get them replace the battery for you.

Everyone is stressed about making the battery last as long as possible because people know it’s not so easy to replace. “A simple trip to the Apple store” is easier said than done: many people don’t even have an Apple store in their city, not to mention that you have to back up and wipe out the phone before you take it to the store or ship it to Apple. Just look at how many threads about the battery life there are these days on the web, such as this one. A lot. There wasn’t a single one when the phones had user-replaceable batteries. Doesn’t that tell you something about the damage done by manufacturers by sealing and gluing the phones?

I must say that I'm disappointed with my 16PM battery life, and it's been a week now so I think it's fair to say what I'm seeing now is probably where it will be going forward.

My 13PM was such an incredible step up from my XS Max when I first bought it, it was the first time I could genuinely get 2 full days of regular use out of a phone, at least for the first few months. I still charged every night most of the time but I was never once worried about the battery life on that phone until the very end where it fell off a cliff like most do after 3 years or more. My 16PM gets thru a full day of heavy use but that's it, it's done by the end of the day. Doesn't really make sense, since according to both Apple and real world tests (along with simply intuitively looking at the specs) I should be seeing battery life at least on par with the old phone. Might try turning off AOD to see what happens. I don't really care for it that much anyway.

not to mention, the "Geniuses" are all careless and under high stress and the chances of having cosmetic damage due to the repair is high. (happened 3/3 times for me)

An option to only enable non-GPS (satellite) location services for certain apps will certainly save a lot of power when location services is enabled

I keep location services, background app refresh and notifications off by default on apps, and only enable as needed. Not for battery, I just don't like apps and services doing things in the background without my interaction.

...well and I despise notifications with a burning hot passion.

People whining about the new iPhone getting worse battery time is as old as iPhone updates. If it'd be true, the original iPhone would be the king of battery time and the current one the worst ever.

I've never obsessed about my daily battery runtime or my battery life.

My first iPhone was the iPhone 3G, I can't remember having any iPhone run out of charge on any day because the opportunities to recharge it are just too many.

For the battery life, either the battery would be covered by my AppleCare or I'd would pay for a new battery. End of story. I don't get the constant blabbing of YouTubers and others how "I upgraded because my battery was getting old". Just get a new battery.

I'm not going to turn off all good features to chase 5 more charge cycles, which is doubtful anyway.

Where this list is good is if you're stuck in a situation where you can't recharge your phone from a wall outlet or similar and don't have a power bank with you.

Tip 1 has the wrong directions

I don’t see those options on my Mac and iPhone using latest os, pls advise

Just switch off the damn $1100 smartphone instead of turning off these 20+ things and your battery will last for weeks. Heck, you won’t even know when it dies.

Bring back the mini, with smaller battery.
So people re-learn to use their smartphones smarter again.

The article is helpful, but frustrating. People don't need to scour their phones for battery savings, if Apple release all these things as features on their devices, the onus should be on them to make these features battery efficicient for this customers.

Even better: if you don’t want to be stressed about your battery DO NOT BUY A SEALED AND GLUED DEVICE WHOSE BATTERY YOU CAN’T EASILY REPLACE YOURSELF, NO MATTER HOW SLEEK IT LOOKS. That’s actually the root of this whole battery problem. No one was worried at all about the cellphone battery until apple came out with its sleek sealed iphone and all other manufacturers followed their example.
An unavoidable reality, in the case of most smartphones these days. I don't know much about the latest Android phones out there, but I would imagine that most manufacturers are leaning towards Apple's direction, to improve water-tightness and also to reduce the possibility that users might open the device themselves and perform repairs or modifications outside of warranty. I could be wrong, though... and I know that there are repair vendors who work on Apple devices that still open up the units anyway.
