I enjoy articles like this. I see that some others have complained, but I found it comprehensive and useful, even though I'm still running iOS 17 and have no immediate plans to upgrade.

An unavoidable reality, in the case of most smartphones these days. I don't know much about the latest Android phones out there, but I would imagine that most manufacturers are leaning towards Apple's direction, to improve water-tightness and also to reduce the possibility that users might open the device themselves and perform repairs or modifications outside of warranty. I could be wrong, though... and I know that there are repair vendors who work on Apple devices that still open up the units anyway.

You are correct in that most manufacturers are leaning toward’s Apple’s direction. However, water-tightness is just an excuse to keep users happy, not the real reason why they all lean towards sealing and gluing the phones. The real reason is money: by sealing the phones, they limit who can repair and can charge more for the repairs and parts. In fact, Apple wasn’t even remotely thinking about water-tightness when they sealed the first iphone. In the end, sealing the phones is more harmful than beneficial for the end users, but the users don’t realize this and the manufacturers take advantage of that ignorance.

Helpful article; there are a few things I'll definitely use in situations where I need to maximize life, like multi-day backpacking trips.

The iPhone 16 pro battery is absolutely not the best battery Apple I’ve ever made. I’ve had every new iPhone for the last 10+ years for the first time yesterday after just four hours my battery was on 20%. I’m absolutely furious.

You are wrong about the airtag, it does impact battery life if you believe the Apple battery app report.
My iPhone 16 PM shows Find My uses 1% and I have 3 AirTags in use. It could be less than 1% since the app doesn't show fractions of a percent.

Imagine paying $1000 for a phone then turning all the most important features and making it feel like a $200 phone just to preserve some battery 🤦‍♂️

This article basically says, "Just get a different phone or turn every feature off on your iPhone." That such an article exists means Apple needs to get their arses in gear on a fix.

I am using the lastest beta and don't have any battery drain so hopefully that fix is imminent.

Rage bait has evolved beyond forum posts into articles

I came here to dunk on the article but looks like everyone already has

This is one of he worst articles I even seen on MR.

Get a IPhone 10 if you do as suggested. One doesn’t get the latest iPhone and turn off all/most the useful features.
So true. Turn off always on display and pro motion for example. Seriously!? Why did I buy a 16 pro? Nevermind

Disable, disable, disable, disable, disable... What are many of the new features for?

The only things that drain more battery than they should are Bluetooth and Background App Refresh. The rest don't matter. And turning off ProMotion is terrible advice.

holy moly this is sounding like all the steps for an android phone to save battery. I remember when iphone just had good battery and you didn't have to tinker with it.

Even better: if you don’t want to be stressed about your battery DO NOT BUY A SEALED AND GLUED DEVICE WHOSE BATTERY YOU CAN’T EASILY REPLACE YOURSELF, NO MATTER HOW SLEEK IT LOOKS. That’s actually the root of this whole battery problem. No one was worried at all about the cellphone battery until apple came out with its sleek sealed iphone and all other manufacturers followed their example.
Yes let’s go back to phones that if it’s raining outside good luck.

I really think people forget how fragile old phones were.

Battery life problems can be caused by new features Apple has added or bugs that have yet to be addressed.
The root cause of most battery life problems is having an incompetent CEO who cares far more about maximizing profits for shareholders than providing customers with user-friendly products.

That wasn’t the reason for sealing the phones when Apple started that trend in 2007. They weren’t even thinking about water resistance at all at that time.
