HI 5 Laslo!

What does it matter? If the refurb has a 3 year warranty standard, I am sure that it is not that big of a risk. If it broke, the warranty will replace or fix your refurb.

Only a $200 Diff? 😕
Na, dont think so - I go to the University of Miami so I have the same EDU Discount - Problem is you STILL PAY SALES TAX - which makes the EDU Price come out to $2,000.00 anyways!

So ordering from PC Connections is still a HUGE Price break - NO TAX and NO Shipping - even ordering at full retail price of $1,599 😉

True....however I can get the EDU discount through my wife, which only makes it a $200 difference...hardly seems worth it when you're spending that much money, but a $400 savings is really good.

I am wary of buying refurb equipment anyway though.

i have a new 23" apple cinema display staring me in the face...just got it at the apple store w/edu discount...w/tax, it still came out to over $1930. there's a 10% restocking fee if i open it, so before opening, it, should i keep it...or order the hp 2335? i don't mind refurbished...and even with 2-day shipping, it's about $500 cheaper than the apple. it just means i don't get to play with my g5 powermac until friday.

btw - you can buy it NEW with no tax (about $17 for shipping) for $1499 here: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=134843&_LOC=US

so, here's what's important to me (besides the price)...is it VESA compliant? is having the extra inputs going to be that useful for future purposes?...let's say i want to turn it into my tv monitor later...and lastly, how ugly is it? i saw its newer brother - the one with the speakers and extra t.v. features (can't recall the model no.) and it was quite ugly...black plastic grilles...very tacky. but, if the difference is $500, i think i would opt for the HP...$500 gets me a kick-a$$ video card upgrade and some other stuff. any suggestions/thoughts would be most welcome. hopefully, i haven't ripped into the monitor box like a monkey on a cupcake while i wait for your thoughts...

That was exactly my thinking!!
$500 Bucks!!! That gets me 2 GIGs of RAM or almost a NVIDIA 6800!
Keep in mind that this is the SAME EXACT LCD Screen used in the Apple Cinema Display! Yes, granted NOT the same "look" exterior wise BUT like the fat chicks say "its on the inside that counts".

😱

well, pcconnection.com ran out of the refurbs...so the cheapest is around $1520...$400 is still a pretty sizable difference...and yet, i'm still torn. my g5 2.0 arrives tomorrow...we'll see how much willpower i have tomorrow. still undecided...stay tuned...

Has anyone here even seen this HP display in person? I have, there's one at a local CompUSA. Play around with it for a bit, and it becomes very obvious where they saved all that money. It's in the casing, which seems to be the same cheap plastic they use in their printers. It's fine for printers, but it seems to be a tad weak for the weight of a 23" LCD display. It's very very shaky, and the hinge just sucks.

I use one at work, and I have an Apple 23" at home. The hinge on the one that I use is fine, maybe a little more shaky than the Apple, but that is expected, it's a 23" display. Maybe the one you saw at comp USA had people like you playing with it, all day long for months and the hinge has become weakened, more so than normal everyday use.

The HP is no apple display, the apple is a lot nicer in enclosure, but like I have said in this thread already, if you don't care to pay more for apple enclosure and firewire and USB, then you should get the HP.

well, my wife really liked it, so it is now open, waiting on our computer desk for its mate to arrive tomorrow. it sure is beautiful...the ad/dc adapter itself is a thing of beauty.

like the other post said, the HP monitor is really built like crap...i didn't see the 2335 at compusa, but its more refined brother - the one with speakers...and that one had lots of plastic grilles and seemed flimsy. the apple monitor feels like one solid piece.

of course, that doesn't mean it's worth $400-500 more than the HP...but i figured i'd have the monitor for 6, 7, 8-plus years...and the cost per year seems worth it.

The price-difference is reversed here in Sweden.

The Cinema Display, from Apple, costs 21.330:-.
Hp's costs 22.300:- which is about USD 130 more.

No, it's expected because they used **** for plastic, where it needs something stronger. It might be a little shaky now, but what about 4-5 years from now, will that hinge still be intact even?
