I knew that obviously but dont you lose quality connecting it with VGA. It is connected with mini display port >>> VGA I even asked the Genius working there. I had a chance to buy one but when I went to the apple store and looked at it I wasnt impressed at all, the 30" was amazing but out of my price range. I went with http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-7976

and I think it is far better than the ACD.

What you need is a MDP to DVI adapter and NOT VGA - Then it will be digital and not a noisy VGA Analogue connection. Keep it Digital all the way and it does not matter what plug it is, it will still look good !

If this is for general use, a Dell 2408WFP is a much better choice; it's both cheaper and offers a matte display; this is not to say the ACD isn't a superb choice; I did buy one when they came out, but I still think the Dell is better value.

That Dell is around the same price as the Apple which I can get for £525.

The only downside in my opinion to the 24" ADC is the short cable -- I haven't seen any way to extend it.

My MacBook will be beside the screen so that isn't a problem for me.

Hmm...decisions..

iMac?

Does the MiniDisplayPort hinder my ability to connect it to my matching iMac - is there an adapter to be able to do this?

we are talking the newest acd 24" led, the one that only have a mini display port right? Not older ACD 20" and 30" that uses either dvi or vga. The 24" ACD will only work with the newest macs that have mini display port. Since if it is mini display port so it is all digital and no need for any adapter.

I second the 2408WFP. I'd really, really like to get the 24" Apple LED, but I can't get by with only the MDP input, so I'll be getting the Dell.

HP LP2475w.

Got it for $468 on eBay after bing.com cashback. Beautiful monitor, cheapest IPS panel at 24" you'll find. Has DVI, Displayport, HDMI, component, composite, S-Video, 6 USB ports, decent cable management, 1920x1200 resolution, 1080p, is HDCP compliant, and a bunch of other good stuff.

It's very nice to work with display, and games and movies look great too.

Here's an in depth review. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_lp2475w.htm

that genius is quite a dumbass.

read up a little more. don't trust the morons working in retail. a macbook or macbook pro (granted its relatively new) has a mini display port that hooks up directly to the Apple cinema display.

If you have a 17" MBP with anti-glare which you use for editting does it make sense to buy a 24" ACD which has NO anti-glare???? The only alternative would be the old 30" ACD which is anti-glare but that seems to be to big for on your desk (distance to the screen is to small compared to the size of the screen or am I wrong ???????????????).

I have a dell 2408WFP on my hackintosh

Pros:
~obviously screen real estate is great
~Matte doesnt pick up annoying reflections
~lots of connectors, great for if you want to use your setup for more than just connecting to a computer.
~very good contrast
~cheaper than the ACD

Cons
~Damn this thing is bulky! its bigger than a 24" imac, except it doesnt have a chin. its far bigger than what it needs to be
~feels plasticky, looks alright but it is plasticky, no question about that and the plastic seems to have a lot of flex in it
~Heat, well lets just say you can heat your room with it! It puts out more heat than my mates 20" imac!!!
~Backlight bleed, exists in the top two corners, not really noticible unless you are watching a black screen in a dark room.
~feels like it needs a remote control to take better advantage of the features.

Overall this display gives a very good picture and performs brilliantly but the overall package is let down by cheap plastics, poor space management and poor energy management. This display could be a lot smaller and a lot cooler and wrapped in nicer materials, but that wouldnt be the dell way would it!

the ACD has an IPS panel rather than a PVA panel which is meant to be a slightly better technology for image quality. The ACD offers less connectors and is pretty much only good for using with a macbook unibody (or a new mac pro i think) but it will be much higher quality and as with anything apple, it will be engineered extremely well and that in my opinion is worth paying for if you have the money.
