Yea, I have a PC desktop for gaming, and a Macbook for everything else.
The 8800GS in the highest-end iMac (that costs $2000+) costs just ~$80 separately if you get the PC-version 8800GS< and pop it into a desktop PC.
And with newer games coming out, your iMac will be stuck with the 8800GS, yet with your desktop PC you can easily just buy the newest video card and pop it in (ATI 4850 for ~$150 is a great value).
I bring my Macbook to work with me every day, and just hook up the $20 min-DVi -> DVI adapter and use my 22" LCD monitor with it. Works great.
