Apple Music is one of the apps that got a noticeable Liquid Glass design overhaul in iOS 26, but Apple also added a useful new feature that streamlines song transitions.

AutoMix is designed to transition from one song to another as the song that's playing ends, using time stretching and beat matching for a seamless shift. Apple says that it's meant to work "like a DJ."

Songs are designed to transition at the "perfect moment," based on an analysis of the key and tempo of the music. AutoMix replaces Crossfade, and can be enabled when opening up Apple Music after updating to iOS 26.

AutoMix is live in the developer beta, and so far testers have been impressed with the feature, and there are multiple threads on Reddit and other social media networks praising it as one of the best features in the new update. Though Apple describes AutoMix as using "intelligence" for beat matching, it is not an Apple Intelligence feature, and is not limited to newer iPhones. It is, however, designed for Apple Music subscribers, so you need an Apple Music subscription to use it.

There are other new features in Apple Music too. For songs that are in a different language, Apple has a Lyrics Translation feature, plus a Lyrics Pronunciation option so you can accurately sing those lyrics. There's also an option to pin favorite playlists to the top of the Music app, and access those through a new pinned music widget on the Home and Lock Screens.

iOS 26 is available for developers at the current time, but a public beta will be coming in July. The update will see a launch this fall alongside new iPhone models.

I probably don't listen to the type of music that this will work nicely with, but,

WHY NOT BRING IT TO THE MAC MUSIC APP AS WELL?

Apple is finally looking like they're at least trying to fix/sync all of the "separation" mistakes of the past systems and overlap. So why not just bring features like this to all platforms?
Even if the system requirement is a Mac with an M-series chip. But just make it happen, man this gets tiring.

I love this idea. All music apps should have true crossfade, where the song starts while the other song is playing out, so you can listen to music while working without any silence in between. You should be able to truly control every aspect of it. The existing crossfade in Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc. isn't very good

Yeah so it “mixes” at the wrong time. DJs usually do their transitions at the buildup (as energy “builds up”/the chorus) and breakdown (after the chorus/once the energy dies down). This thing, however, crossfades at the worst possible time and kills the vibe worse than even the most amateurish DJ.

I actually prefer the OG crossfade feature, it was perfect 99.9% of the time.

I mean it does it at the end of a song. In a club with an actual dj you wouldn’t really be lostening through the full song, whereas with a streaming service it can’t just assume that you wanna listen to half a song.

How about having the volume check working properly instead of this crap?

I have playlists where even with volume check turned on I have to run to the HomePod to lower the volume when some tracks kick in.

Also how about if I ask who is the drummer on this song I get the answer instead of telling me the name of the band?
A built in musicologist my ass.

I use the 12 second cross fade option, which does exactly as it says on the tin; starts playing the next track when 12 seconds is left on the current track.
