Apple's iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max should launch in late September, and there are plenty of rumors about the devices.

Here we go! I held out with my 12 Pro Max for another year, specifically for this and the 12 GB RAM.

Hopefully the 3.5X / 7X rumours are true:

0.5X / 1X / 2X / 3.5X / 7X
Not sure they are going back and forth so it may still have 5x actual zoom lens for 48mp Tetraprism telephoto and 3.5x may be digitial zoom

The improved cooling could be good since the 16 PM gets hot and stops charging at times. Ditto the *potential* 8K video. It would be helpful in that case to have the new Apple TV output 8K because I am not sure how you'd view it on an 8K TV otherwise unless Airplay 3 (whenever that comes) can handle it? It seems not yet per a quick search*. And improved battery on the PM is nice. Maybe from the USB C on the phone to the TV....no idea.

* AirPlay 2 seems to do 4K

I love how we report on here aluminum and a repositioned apple logo are features of this device. One of these changes not features will make the device feel cheaper and the other just just a change of location to the logo, also not a feature.

Apple has lost its ability to innovate and unsure if they are feeding sites verbiage of this, but it sure sounds silly and this year is an easy skip on the upgrade cycle. Especially after last year’s botched release and lack of follow through.

And Apple will continue to lead the industry.

Yup... with Apple manufacturing 600,000+ iPhones per day (on the average), every day of the year, to keep their 1+ Billion active and repeat active customers happy.

While continuing to make Apple one of the most successful consumer tech companies in the world. And irritating those that believe Apple is doomed and not able to innovate (yet again).

No. The rumour is 3.5X (native 48 MP) and 7X (48 MP cropped to 12 MP). Neither are digital interpolation.

According to Majin Bu, the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a new Telephoto lens with a 48MP sensor, up from the current 12MP sensor found in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. This rumor isn't new – in fact it's been repeatedly claimed by several other sources. However, Bu goes further by claiming that the new lens will offer 3.5x optical zoom (85mm equivalent) instead of the 5x zoom (120mm equivalent) currently available.

This focal length is generally better suited for portraits and everyday photography, since it allows users to frame shots without having to move as far away from the subject. However, the big shift allegedly comes from the new 48MP sensor, in that the extra resolution allows for digital cropping to simulate longer focal lengths, offering less quality loss than normal digital zoom.

This is similar to what Apple already does with the main Fusion camera on the iPhone 16, where the 48MP sensor enables a 2x digital crop – marketed as "Telephoto" – that still produces a 12MP image with minimal quality loss.

Telephoto Lens: New Optical Zoom
The telephoto lens of the iPhone 17 Pro is the heart of this revolution. Here’s what makes it special:
– Versatile focal length: It shifts from 120 mm (5x optical zoom) to 85 mm (3.5x), perfect for portraits and everyday shots.
– 48-megapixel sensor: Compared to the previous 12-megapixel sensors, it offers optical zoom up to 7x (160 mm) with top-quality images.
