There’s often times we disagree, there’s more times that we do agree! I couldn’t have said it better myself!

The beauty of the forum my friend!
We share our thoughts and there's a yin & yang and a push and pull and we are all better for it.

I have certainly learned many things and had many of my views shifted by all the great dialogue over the years here with folks like yourself.

Looks terrible.

The only interesting feature is the additional RAM, and it’s only interesting because of how stingy Apple have been for the past decade (and we know they’re only increasing it because their AI models literally can’t run on less).

Here we go! I held out with my 12 Pro Max for another year, specifically for this and the 12 GB RAM.....
Damn. I thought I was the only one still rocking the 12 Pro Max. The glass on the back is completely shattered (as is the front although not as bad) but it's still kicking ass!

Keeping people happy is one thing, innovate - a totally different

You are not the arbiter of what qualifies as innovation. I'll go with the 1+ Billion active and repeat Apple customers who continue to purchase Apple products year after year after year. And propelling Apple to being one of the most successful consumer tech companies in the world.

No one cares how many devices they make a day. That’s like saying people are buying water by X number of gallons a day and soda companies are doomed.

Android is fragmented at best with no support. But that doesn’t mean those who have been with Apple done reflect back on the days where products were the focus of the company and dollars followed vs dollars being the focus and subscriptions and rehashed cheapened designs are the focus. 🙄

See my above post.

Annnnnnd. I’ll be trading in my 16PM early and paying a few extra bucks to upgrade early.

Not because of all the “great” features. I’m not gonna BS anyone and say “I’m skipping this year” or warble garble it’s terrible. I just bite every year. I just like having a new phone. I like getting a new case for it and that it takes the best pictures (can’t ever have enough cat and sunset pictures) and all that.

It IS a waste of my money. It’s not something I NEED it’s somerging I WANT. I work hard, I make decent money, and this is one of the ways I “reward” myself. There is a sizable number of people who upgrade “just because”. Group of guys I work with were all ready talking about upgrading in September. And we’re not in the tech industry.

The anti reflective surface looks like a nice upgrade. More RAM and processor is always welcomed. I think the vapor chamber cooling is more vapor wear than vapor chamber. We hear that one every year and it never materializes. So I don’t expect it.

So yeah, I’m getting the 17PM when it comes out. Not sure if I’ll get the orange or the blue. Have to see what they look like. The orange sounds intriguing.

No need to feel ashamed about it or even justify it!

Bravo on your refreshing honestly also.

It's nice to hear someone acknowledge that there really aren't some great new features and they simply just want a new phone! All good, of course!

Hmmmm. It's almost as if that's what a CEO's job is.....
True, but I would argue that (if the rumors are true and the Pro will have basic aluminum and it’s being done for monetary reasons) short term gains will have an effect on long term profits. We care about Apple as a company and want to see them succeed.

Mine is in mint condition. And I replaced the battery too this year, so the battery health is at 100%. :) (It will get passed down to my kid this fall.)

So very, very, very boring... For the “everyone uses a case anyway” brigade, I do not, and I am not alone. I do not understand the downgrade from Al to Ti. Anyway, I am quite glad that my 15 Pro Max will be good for at least another year, or two, or three. Apple will need to do so much better than these dull iterative upgrades as far as I am concerned, even if they are “Built for Apple Intelligence” 🤢 On a scale of 1 to 100, upgrade temptation is currently at 3.

No. The rumour is 3.5X (native 48 MP) and 7X (48 MP cropped to 12 MP). Neither are digital interpolation.

According to Majin Bu, the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a new Telephoto lens with a 48MP sensor, up from the current 12MP sensor found in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. This rumor isn't new – in fact it's been repeatedly claimed by several other sources. However, Bu goes further by claiming that the new lens will offer 3.5x optical zoom (85mm equivalent) instead of the 5x zoom (120mm equivalent) currently available.

This focal length is generally better suited for portraits and everyday photography, since it allows users to frame shots without having to move as far away from the subject. However, the big shift allegedly comes from the new 48MP sensor, in that the extra resolution allows for digital cropping to simulate longer focal lengths, offering less quality loss than normal digital zoom.

This is similar to what Apple already does with the main Fusion camera on the iPhone 16, where the 48MP sensor enables a 2x digital crop – marketed as "Telephoto" – that still produces a 12MP image with minimal quality loss.

Telephoto Lens: New Optical Zoom
The telephoto lens of the iPhone 17 Pro is the heart of this revolution. Here’s what makes it special:
– Versatile focal length: It shifts from 120 mm (5x optical zoom) to 85 mm (3.5x), perfect for portraits and everyday shots.
– 48-megapixel sensor: Compared to the previous 12-megapixel sensors, it offers optical zoom up to 7x (160 mm) with top-quality images.
I sure hope that those rumors (3.5/7) turn out to be wrong, I really want 5x zoom (thru the lens), 3.5 to me is a step back.
And I am still hoping that Apple has a surprise for us and adds a 4th camera, that would be an instant buy for me. I know, I'm dreaming about that ;)

I'm hoping for 3.5X/7X myself. 5X/10X would be interesting, but IMO it would be less practical for most people.

lmao

I wonder if they are going to gaslight us with that again this year?
FWIW, I really like the Photos Clean Up feature, which is an AI-dependent feature.

12GB RAM and camera are the only noticeable upgrades assuming this is true.

I guess final design will be better because all these renders looks horrible IMO - but it’s subjective and not that important for me.

They have taken the liberty from Pixel and others to increase the camera lens area to a HOUSING and spread it across the back.. fine, I get that - maybe more space for battery or internals, so more space for battery in the main housing area, but I wish they could have figured out a design way to do that AND not just extend the bump impact on lying the phone down on a flat surface and having "phone wobble".. it would seem that they could have actually leveraged the acceptable camera bump area - and new housing and have a bump that was even across the back and in as much would create no wobble AND a bit of top to bottom tilt - sort of like proping up the phone a bit and thus enabling a bit more readability of the screen while say sitting at a desk and glancing down at the phone. Oh well, I think all the quality industrial engineers have left by now so I don't expect much in this way from apple design anymore.

Perhaps making space at the top for the 2026 premium Air and Fold models with titanium. The Air may move above the Pro next year with some additional features.
The Air moving above the Pro would make no sense from a product segmentation perspective. If the Fold has additional features over the Pro, that makes lots of sense, since that damn thing will be at least $2,000...
