Not a great form factor (screen size) for older folks.

Well I'm old enough to remember smaller form factors with satisfaction. My SE did and still does fit in my pocket a whole lot better than my XR, I have to say. I use the SE now only as a WiFi device but it does get used daily as a tote-along iPod with brains lol, and when I need more screen real estate I reach for the serious sort, e.g. iPad Pro. I'll probably give the SE to kin or a neighbor's kid but truth be told I'll really miss it.

I don't regret the XR purchase since the SE's chip is starting to show some age, eh? But the XR is the last time I'm getting a "phone" that gets used for other than phone calls most of the time anyway. Once I found the Libby app for getting, syncing and reading borrowed library books the easy way, it's my go to on the XR.

My favorite device at the moment is really an old iPod nano 7th gen with a radio and room for some long playlists refreshed from iTunes library periodically. It fits in a shirt pocket with a button to secure the carry, and holds a charge for unbelievably long time. Only time I look at it really is to see what time it is if that's the only clock in the room with me at a given moment... and the clock faces are bigger than any regular watch face I ever stuck on my arm. I wouldn't mind a tiny dumb-phone again same as the freebie clamshells the size of golf balls that Verizon used to default their cell accounts to. Just I wouldn't want that kind of weird menu'd OS again ever.

You know where else they’re great? International travel. Pop in a local SIM and they make perfect devices for getting around. Somebody with a brand new XR or XS will draw a lot of unwanted attention, and given the opportunity, the phone will quickly disappear. With the SE, nobody notices. And if they do, it’s lookat that tourist still using the iPhone 5!

As for being too small a display for someone older, that actually doesn’t make much sense, as the text is the same size on the SE as it is on the XS, there’s just more stuff, and more empty space. Not always the best for older folks either, especially if they’re used to the older iPhones. And the text can be enlarged. Plus it’s easier to grip than the larger, slicker phones, reducing drops and accidents.

Too late. Ordered mine (Silver 128GB) on eBay for €400 a week ago, but even if I didn't then those have been sold out by now where I live, not available. The original price in Ireland at the time of its launch for this configuration was €200 more. Clearly there's a market for this phone. These Samsung-like appearance-wise iPhones with skyrocketed price tags are not what I expect: this will be my 1st iOS device and I want it to be like the Jobs-era iPhone form-factor I skipped over.

Solid device but too outdated of tech for me.
Your newest iPhone XR/XS or whatever will be outdated by the end of this year. I'm fine with my outdated MBP having been used for 6 years now. If solid and good build quality, also if capable of holding upgrades, then why that matters? Tech is about running out of date anyway, chasing newest is futile like chasing horizon.

The eBay deal of these same iPhones at $310/128GB and $265/32GB is still on, with free shipping. That is ~the same price as the Apple clearance before this last batch - Apple was charging $8+ for shipping, and cheaper if the tax is not figured. Even without shipping cost, this batch cost $322.92 here for the 128GB.

Only question is the warranty length - the ones from Apple Store come with full warranty and AC+ eligible - don't know if the same is true for the eBay items.

Got my iPhoneSE today from AllDayZip on eBay. Box was sealed and new. Phone was untouched and IMEI on phone matched IMEI on box.

Here is the report on the AllDayZip serial number...

For comparison purposes, here is the serial number report from the SE I bought new at an Apple store in 2017...

Also checked the serial # with Apple Care and got this...

Heading out to dinner... will activate it and run the Coconut Battery check when I get back. But all looks legit!!

After you activated it, what did Apple Care Plus indicate? My only concern here is that these are recorded as purchased at an earlier date by Apple, basically running the clock on the warranty.

I doubt there is a full year left on the Ebay offering. It won't be eligible for AC+.

The post above yours, includes pics from a phone bought from that eBay ad. It shows a September 2018 manufacture date. So if Apple shows it as purchased last September, there’s still the better part of a year left on it, but of course, that would be well past the 60 day window to add it.

Clearly Apple had no idea they were going to drop the SE from their stores given that they were still manufacturing it for US retail as late as September. I’m just trying to figure out how this guy can sell them for $10 more than Apple is selling them directly on Clearance, with free shipping. Assuming he’s picking these up in bulk from Apple, when they go on clearance, then the purchase date will be well within the 60 days.

The September manufactured device above should have a sale date closer to this month, considering this batch became available only recently, so maybe eligible for AC.

The question is - will anyone add $99 AC to a $299 device?

I wouldn’t pay for AC+ on a low priced phone. That would not be financially prudent, in my opinion.

So I'm only allowed to buy a company's products if I agree with their C-suite's short sighted decisions? Good grief. There's Kool-aid withdrawal and then there's this.
No. You most certainly can buy a companies products even if you disagree with their decisions. To a greater or lesser exten you often times do.

Well it really all depends. One thing is sure, the SE is likely not going to be available to purchase new soon. And, we’re all snapping them up now both because of price and because we intend to use them for as long as we can in the event Apple doesn’t release a new small iPhone.

With that in mind, if something happens to your SE, not covered by warranty, you’ll be out as much as $269. So if you’re accident prone, AC+ might make sense, as it offers $29 screen repair (otherwise $129), and $99 damage repair. Plus it extends the warranty on the phone for an additional year, and ensures the SE is completely covered for as long as possible against defects. If there’s any new SE service stock left, AC+ will get it as long as it lasts. Otherwise, it’s almost certainly going to be refurbished for those out of warranty. At a certain point, it’s cheap insurance for a phone we all want to last as long as possible.

That said, I haven’t had a single problem with my SE, nor has anyone I’ve known with one, who had any problems either. And I’ve never accidentally broken a screen or damaged a phone requiring repair. I have had phones replaced for defects and appreciated the AC+ which resulted in a new phone for one almost 2 years old. But given we’re nearing EOL for the SE, that might not even be possible now. So for me, I’m waiting to see if Apple does announce a new small phone in March, otherwise I may or may not buy AC+ for it at that time.

Such a hypocrite, this C(r)ook. The SE was never about Apple suddenly empathising with people in need of smaller devices to fit their hands, it's all been about clearing inventory. And now he's pushing his latest batch of oversized potato phones with no f--s given about the smaller form factor, like small hands stopped existing.
Yeah, that would explain why they released it with the six month old SOC that had just started shipping the previous fall - to get rid of all the extras they had while selling the most large phones ever. Try to at least make a little sense when ranting uselessly.

I saw these questions and wanted to follow up.

Here is the info from Apple after I activated the phone and put the serial number into the AppleCare website for the SE I got off eBay from AllDayZip...

And after I clicked "Learn more and buy now" on the AppleCare option...

All of this is for the SE I bought off eBay. But I will not be buying AppleCare for a $299 phone. It's kind of why I buy the SE in the first place. :p
[doublepost=1550511186][/doublepost]And for those wondering, it came with 36% charge...

That’s just an “estimated” expiration date of warranty of February 17, however they may still make you show the receipt when bringing it in for service near the exp date, to confirm the actual expiration date which might be when it was first bought.

But that is certainly a promising notification on the Apple website, and indicates that the phone has never been activated before.

Seems like there is a lot of rejuvenated hype out there on the intrawebs about an SE2, possibly coming as soon as Spring.

Doing some digging, it looks like Apple had an SE2 all ready to go last summer, with patents, full CAD renders, and screen protector leaks all over the place... but they scrapped it once the Xr became an official part of the lineup. With Xr sales in the crapper, it sounds like Apple may be pushing full steam ahead with the SE2!

Do you guys think an SE2 is finally going to happen? Or is this just the hype machine at work?

I am not expecting anything to happen. If it does, then that will be nice to have another option available. I plan to use my two SE's as long as possible. The SE2 won't have a headphone jack or Touch ID, so that's a pretty big negative for me even if the phone size is the same as the original SE.

Totally agree on this point. :(
[doublepost=1550599662][/doublepost]Got my SE from Thursday's release batch... FWIW it came from Mount Juliet, TN.

Mine arrives Tuesday. Chatted with Apple Support and they said these SEs qualify for free battery replacement. Mine has a build date of November 2017 so I’m just guessing the battery will be less than 100%. Interestingly the Apple Support person said they would have been quality tested (whatever that actually means) before being put up for sale on the Clearance page. But that would mean busting open the packaging.
