PS: I'm 15 and I've brought myself a iPod Nano, a MacBook, a iPhone 3G, a Nokia 5800, and am soon buying a iPhone 3GS... Am I awesome too? :p

No, you just don't have any financial responsibilities

As others have said - borrow the $25, that's a very small amount of money. You'll have nothing left in your checking account - but we should assume you've already thought that far in advance. What will you do if you wait for your next pay check and the refurb you had your eye on is no longer available?

I honestly don't think a MBP is needed for classes for 16-18 year old studies. It's overkill.

Final Cut Pro works fine on a refurb macbook. (and is working fine on mine.) Use some of the saved money to buy an external monitor / mouse etc.

You live in Maryland, right? I do too. Get your parents to drive you to Christiana mall in DE and you won't have to pay taxes. Call it a day trip or something (if you can take I-95, even better). Hopefully you don't live west of Baltimore, because I live in Harford County and it's about an hour drive for me. Still, worth it when you consider you're saving $60-80 bucks.

Edit (thankfully before anyone else noticed): Stupid me, he's talking about refurbs, so he has to order online. Can't you just ask your parents for $25 bucks? I used to do it all the time when I was 16. It's part of being a teen.

I'm surprised no one has suggested to call Apple directly. There are plenty of people on this forum who have gotten some kind of discount by calling and speaking with a sales rep directly. I bet they won't have a problem taking off $25 if they get the sale.

I'm sooooo close to getting the refurb 2.4GHz Uni MacBook Pro i've been saving to buy for more than 9 months. It's $1299, and i have $1350 in my bank account. So i go to buy and run into a major hurdle. I forgot about tax which jacks up the price to $1375. I'm not getting paid for a few weeks so this short $25 is really driving me crazy!

What sucks even more is that I need this for school, and my teachers recommended the 9600 GPU for video in Final Cut, not to mention i want to game some. ;) I looked online, and Maryland does not usually every have tax holdiays.

Can anybody help me out? I mean, even a 2-3% coupon code would help me get this. I am sooooo close!!

get a friend of yours that has a student id card, and go in there and get the discount, should take care of the tax, and enjoy your new macbook pro with a lil money left in your account! :)

I don't believe you can get a refurb and an HE discount on top of that.

I disagree. I commend the young man for scratching and saving to make enough to buy what he wants. I think it is awesome!

I am sorry to say but I disagree. I bought my self an iMac 3.06 4GB RAM, MBP 2.26 4GB RAM, iPhone 3GS, Bose Surround Sound, and an External Apple Display. That must mean I am really special since I am 15? I paid for everything, no cash was from birthdays nor parents. I worked hard and took in the rewards. If he cant get 25.00 why bother getting a machine costing that much. You will 100% need to get the Apple Care, and in addition you will want a case, mouse, etc. I think this post was aiming at you just getting a few "promo codes" from the people on these forums to save yourself the trouble of either asking mom and dad or going into your savings.
PS if you are this young, what kind of school requires their students to get this much for a single class??

Neither Applecare, nor a case, nor a mouse, are required. They're nice extras, but he has a year to get Applecare, and the rest he doesn't even necessarily need.

And sure, you paid for those things yourself, but you don't have any obligations. Gloat when you can buy all those things on top of car insurance, rent, and utilities.

Haha, No, I dont deal drugs, I dont do chores for money I help out because they pay for me to go to school I have to have a way to repay them. The "secret" to me making money is 2 part time jobs, I have a VHS to DVD transfer business, and I manage a website. Oh I almost forgot, if you want my autograph I can send you to you, PM me your mailing address.
To the person who commented on my post as well, I do go to school, I believe that is classified as an obligation.

I do agree there, and I think it's stupid to say people who need to save up for a bit "have no business" owning or doing anything.

PS: I'm 15 and I've brought myself a iPod Nano, a MacBook, a iPhone 3G, a Nokia 5800, and am soon buying a iPhone 3GS... Am I awesome too? :p

No, you're just another cog in a consumeristic society. But as an apple shareholder, I thank you.

My point was anyone who has to completely empty his bank account for a nonessential purchase is not thinking clearly. That is a principle to live by.

If you can get to Delaware ... No Tax.
If you're a student then you can get a free IPOD .... can't you just sell the ipod and lower your cost? The rebates come pretty quick. I bought the 2.4 ghz MBP at the Delaware store (End of Life product) for $1200 and got the free ipod and printer.

You can always call the Delaware store and see if they have anymore (Always worth a shot).
Good Luck!

7-11 stores have a sign that says they keep no more than $25 in their register at a time... Really though, don't rob a convenient store for a Mac ;)

The time spent logging in and typing this out and ultimately reading all of our responses could of been used to find an odd job that could of made you well over 25 dollars.

Now stop reading and do something about it.

just saying here, you've got all that money saved up and it took so long. and you're ready to blow it all (in a good way in some sort) on ONE thing. i'd suggest keep saving more money. then buy the laptop. so you'd have money left over and not be left with no money
just my .02

I had a business, it failed. I currently run a site that contains information and I am signing up to Googe Adwords (or is it Adsense?) so I can make a bit of money from it.

Thing is, though, no matter how much money you get, or what you do, it is hard to get money for big purchases. Depending on how much you make, "big purchase" may have a different definition, but unless you're a billionaire, there are always going to be things that are hard for you to buy. There is therefore no problem with having to wait a bit to get $25, especially since the OP has saved up the rest of the money already.

You're welcome :D

It depends how many other things you have to pay for. I regularly empty my account because I'm young and don't need to pay bills etc. so I see no problem with it.

what the hell is your job. I mean im 16 and i paid for my ipod touch and iphone, but a macbook? Really now

And also, just throw something up on craigslist. have somebody come meet you ( if your parents are ok with it) and get 25 bucks. if not, ask your parents if you can do work for them around the house. They shouldnt mind, just use the magic word ;)

For all the people saying go to DE, the refurbs aren't available in stores. Mail order only.

Good job OP for saving the $$ for a MBP at your age. If you really need it, then go for it. 25 isn't that much and I bet by the time you respond you will have already made it.

Man, I feel sorry for you bro. A $1375 laptop for school? :(

I sold my Macbook on eBay last week (hate that site) for £400 (the cheapest macbook on eBay at the time) and bought myself a gorgeous new Acer Timeline running Mandriva Linux. 8 hours battery life, decent spec and I haven't looked back. The thought of spending another year lugging a very swish laptop around with me on campus, constantly looking over my shoulder didn't appeal to me.

At least nobody can steal my iMac from my house off-campus :D

NB: I also envy you so much, I love it when you get a new Mac, unboxing it, smelling that sterile factory scent, running your fingers gingerly across that precision-cut aluminium and chiclet keys... so cool :D
