Just checked with Macconnection.com REP. They told me apple has an ETA on Sep 20th. Already ordered here! :) I just love macconnection, as there's no tax for me (from CA). Can't wait!

Not sure I believe that date. If that were true they would have shipped everyone's displays who ordered in the US on Friday. It's more likely that the 20th is the date that they actually start shipping, hence the 1-2 weeks quote by Apple.

I wonder how much it will cost once its on refurb :D

Well...

When the 24in Cinema display was 900$, refurbished was 600$...

27in Cinema display is 1000$, refurbished will be 700$...?

At 700$ thatd be a dream come true...but yeah wishful thinking. It'll probably be closer to 850$

I would be so tempted to get one, if only the height was adjustable, and the major gripe, if it let me have more than one input, so I could plug a desktop and laptop in there without having to risk a KVM that may not even work.

Hell Apple could have done something amazing by including the second input, and having a USB hub that switched between inputs, which would have been perfect for people who use a desktop and laptops.

But whatever, when I next upgrade my monitor I'll just have to get one that has features that more suit my needs :(

It's 20th, has yours been shipped? I emailed MC 2 days ago and was told next 1-2 weeks.

Ok, in response to my post above, and after being so excited and happy, I've just decided to cancel my 27" ACD order. There a way too many issues and I am listing the major ones if it can help some other people here. I was intending to use it with a PC, and I know it is not made for that purpose (how sad).

- it only takes old 4870 with DP, 5870 eyefinity or HD5970 to work with a PC. These are not the most affordable solutions, plus I already had a card. Looked forward to switch my GTX480 for a HD5970 but that would mean losing £150.
- no real feedback exists on the only adapter allowing any DVI card to run it (AT-DP400). The few reviews on amazon suggest that this sort of converter is not 100% perfect.
- no switch ON/OFF button, and in a more general way no buttons. You cannot switch the screen manually. And I've read that some windows users come to unplug the screen during the night. Using the control panel to adjust brightness and contrast do not make me very enthusiastic.
- short cables. my PC sits on the floor. I'd bet that the ACD would be too far and would then require the purchase of an extra cable.

Wondering if I should consider the U2711, wait for a big price drop from a 30" keeping my BenQ FP241W for a few more years...

I think its ridiculous for apple to have designed the new 27 and it be a different size to the imac! its just sloppy and unprofessional for a company who prides its product line to fit together! it would p*ss me off to no end! youd have to put a book under it! even the press shots on the site! surely they realised!

Not that i own an imac but if i did and wanted another 27 to dual screen i would be pretty annoyed! fortunately i have a pro with 2 23" and im definitely not getting rid of them until apple offer something worth while for their pro customers! the bigger the screen the bigger your face looks in it! should be a new strap line for apple advertising!

I could have sworn that they developed these monitors mainly for the laptop users. I mean, they come with the MagSafe connector built into it. Also, they showcase a Macbook Pro connected to it on the monitor's box.

If they did build it for iMac and MacPro users, it would imply that these monitors are for professional use, which many people here would disagree with.
IMHO, these monitors are for the casual consumer (with deep pockets).

Anyways, I find it equally crazy when any joe schmoe thinks that a company such as Apple, is sloppy and unprofessional because they didn't have the same priorities as they did. I'm sure they thought about it, especially since it seems like the FIRST, and most obvious direction to go with, is to base their new 27" monitor off the existing 27" iMac.

But then again, I could be wrong.

I really don't understand why Apple didn't add HDMI to this new display. Apple TV and Mac Mini both have the HDMI out, why Apple... WHY!!!!! It would've made things so easy with hooking up a 360/PS3 to the monitor and use it as my monitor for my MacBook Pro without having to buy another TV.

Because they only want it to connect with Apple products. It's not that hard to understand. They also don't have to pay the licensing fee to use HDMI, so it saves them a bit of money on each one they produce.

Would it be nice? Absolutely. Does it really matter? Not really, because people who want HDMI are probably going to be buying an HDTV anyway. Apple is targeting a certain market with the 27-inch, and people who want to hook up a gaming console to it is definitely not part of it.

Anyone else care to chime in on their shipping dates?

I ordered mine the day it became available (September 17th) and my order is saying it'll be delivered October 6th. :(

I ordered a new Mac Pro the day before (September 16th) and it arrives on the 22nd... with no monitor. It's gonna kill me having the Mac Pro sit here with no monitor until the 6th!

I've called a few Apple stores in the greater Atlanta area and they have no idea when they'll be getting them in. One rep said he looked at the shipping dates for the online Apple Store (which states 1-2 weeks) and said that is a good gauge of when the retail stores will get stock.

Anyone have any better/different information?

Is there an easy way to connect a 360 to the 27"? like would this work? http://estore.circuitassembly.com/p...Female-to-Displayport-Male-Adapter-Cable.html

Since the display hasn't shipped yet the estimate that Apple gives on their order status pages is just the date that is on the end of the estimated "window." They always pick the latest date it could possibly arrive, since they don't really know when it will get to you. It is pretty likely it will arrive sooner.

It says 1-2 weeks on the site, and two weeks from the day you ordered (September 17th) is October 1st. That is the day they list as "Ships on" and then they calculate the time it would take to ship with ground shipping (5 days at most) would bring it to October 6th as the delivery date.

What is more likely is that it ships sometime this week or next, and then they will update your order with a more accurate delivery date.

In terms of retail availability, it will probably be roughly 1-2 days after the first orders start shipping for people who ordered from the online store.

I also ordered on Friday and have the same shipping quote, ships Oct 1, arrives Oct 6. Apple retail store says that they'll be getting them "at a later date", they don't have an in-store ETA even for a demo unit.

Is there an easy way to connect a 360 to the 27"?

The easiest way will be a converter like this one.

http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-HDMI-to-Mini-DisplayPort-Converter-for-iMac-27.html

Not cheap, but it should be capable. I would wait awhile though for people to get their hands on the display to test stuff out though. One of the drawbacks of the converter I just linked is that it can only do 720p output to the iMac 27 inch. This limitation might not exist for the new 27" LED display, but if it does then the only way to get 1080p using HDMI is to get a scaler like this one:

http://www.atlona.com/ATLONA-HDMI-MINI-DISPLAYPORT-TO-MINI-DISPLAYPORT-SCALER-AND-SWITCHER.html

That is even more expensive, so hopefully it won't be needed for doing 1080p. There is no way to know for sure until it gets in the hands of people who can test it.

Thanks ovrlrd and Norrsund!

I was thinking the same thing too (tell the customer the worst possible date, but will probably be sooner)... Still just stinks having the MP sit here with nothing to use it with, hehe. Oh well, patience is a virtue, right? :D

In ordered mine on 9/17 as well and :apple: store germany says: Ships october 15, Delivery estimate: october 19. Damn that sucks ... I also have a hex inbound wich will have to sit idle before beeing hooked to the 27" ACD, enough time though to upgrade RAM, install the SSD, test it on my 20"ACD and transfer all data from my old Mac

Ordered mine about an hour ago. Depressing status:

Estimated Shipping: 19 Oct, 2010
Estimated Delivery: 22 Oct, 2010
