i think there are more people happy with Imacs, i do understand when one pay $2200 for a computer it has to be perfect as much as possible, that is the whole point paying premium, apple standard of quality check should be more stringent at least in forst few month of production, as always the case with any new technology the first few months after launch are very critical as there are many unknown issues, good thing is Apple take care of their customers very good, that is why their customer rating is so high.

I agree with everyone else - it's an amazing machine. I use mine for both work and spare time surfing/gaming, so it's used 10h+ per day. I just love it.

The only "problem" I have it that you get used to a 27" screen really quickly. After a few weeks work on this I had to use a PC with a 22" screen for a week when working at a client - it was horrible. Not so much because of Windows, but because you feel so cramped on anything smaller than a 27". It feels like trying to move back to the old 14" monitor I used like 10 years ago. So be prepared that you will always need to buy 27" or bigger screens for any computer you will own from now on :)

I have had my mid 2010 27" iMac for a little over 2 weeks and am very pleased. This is my first Apple product and my only complaint would be that I can hear the hard drive when it seeks, but it sounds like a hard drive should. :) I have tested the screen and can't find anything to gripe about there and this is the area that I would be somewhat obsessive. Overall I am very pleased with the quality and craftsmanship of this machine.

Got a refurb i5 27" last month and loving it so far. Was nervous about the screen issues and size but you really do adjust quickly and it is the most beautiful picture I've seen on a monitor (friends are amazed when they see it).

My only complaint is the hard drive. I feel like the machine has to wait for it to catch up sometimes making the imac seem slower than it really is. But we are talking nitpicking here.

One last issue is the location of the USB ports. I find it difficult to change my devices blindly since they are all behind the monitor and the thing is so huge to move around.

Overall no regrets at all, but I generally never regret my Apple purchases.

Absolutely love mine. 27" i7 w/ 2TB HD and no problems so far (crosses fingers). I've got this baby linked to an airport extreme w/ Drobo FS and use it as a media center, gaming machine (bootcamp), photo editor, and for general home PC use, and I must say, I'm more than pleased! I've backed up most of my blu-rays, and can now sit in my bed and watch them via apple remote on my iMac. I have never spent $2000 on a purchase and been happier.

Mine is the best computer I've ever owned. Biggest flaw is you have to be careful inserting/removing optical media to avoid scratching. I'd also like to see more USB connections.

While there were some growing pains the computer has worked out extremely well. The screen is phenomenal.

Have an i7. Love the actual machine. The cordless keyboard is odd. The mouse takes a little getting used too and is not the best for StarCraft II. I do have a little desktop fan running behind the machine. I have the iMac, a 26" and a 24" monitor on my desk. Add my work laptop to that mix and it gets really hot in my office. The iMac is definitely the warmest of all the equipment.

i've tried to enjoy my imac... im onto number 5 tomorrow assuming a blown speaker, buzzing power supply, and dog whistle from the screen is enough to warrant an exchange. I really can't stand this anymore

I finally got an iMac with a hard drive that is reasonably quiet and it has three different issues. My biggest wish was that this imac box was not so hard to carry around into the store... its becoming such a pain to bring this thing back and forth. I have to have spent at least 6 hours returning these things. and no I am not being a snob I know what noise and slight issues are livable and this combination of three is just too much now so on to #5... cross your fingers

My sister got her 27" i3 today, she may not show it but I'm sure she's happy. I'm jealous and would love to upgrade my 24" but this year has been very expensive with 32GB iPhone 4 & iPad Wi-Fi and my 18" Enkei PF01's.

I hope Apple releases a 30"+.

NICE... i went into the apple store and they were again very helpful and apologetic for my imac issues... They immediately exchanged it and now I also got a $200 credit!!! For the first time this iMac has a WD drive and not seagate... also no buzzing no screen issue, after 4 **** boxes... (ok not **** but flawed) i have my gooden!

anyone know where this model is from "W8032135GXU" i know there is a forum post somewhere that tells stuffl ike that but i could not find it...

thanks!

Environmental Causes of LCD / PSU Buzz or Noise?

Hello,

Before I post my own rant about Apple blowing off my noise problem as "it doesn't exist, it's not our problem" I want to determine whether...there may be some truth to it! Hear me out: my 27" developed a buzzing noise identical to one heard on several YouTube videos I've seen where the noise corresponds to CPU temperature and brightness. In my case the noise decreases when he brightness is turned down. Apparently it can be solved by replacing a PSU--if a tech can confirm it, that is.

The noise also goes away if I shut it down and unplug it overnight--at least for a few hours after I reboot it. Then it comes back.

The noise also goes away if I run the FULL Apple Hardware Test. Again, at least for a few hours, sometimes even days. Then the noise returns. It's annoying, especially considering that the machine was whisper quiet for the first year of its life.

After reporting it to Tech Support, they referred me to a local Service Center (not an Apple Store with real techs). They couldn't reproduce it. Of course they couldn't! I had to unplug it and shut it down to bring it in, didn't I? So, Apple Care approved a limited on-site call. Sure enough, the noise was there, loud and clear for the tech to hear. At least someone would vouch for me that I wasn't crazy.

So, I brought it back to the service center. But now, we're back to "we can't reproduce the problem in the shop." I was under the impression they would just ship it back to Apple since it was confirmed as something he wasn't qualified to fix. But Apple won't do that because he can't reproduce the problem in the shop (and apparently they no longer take service shipments of iMacs--isn't that insane?)

All of that aside, I got to wondering--maybe it is something in the house! One thing I showed the tech was how both of my amps were picking up the Mac noise through my guitar (a single coil telecaster) Weird, huh? The Mac is definitely the source, but but the guitar picks it up. This Mac is normally plugged into a grounded outlet on a 20 amp circuit. Is it possible there is something in the circuit, or something else going that can cause an electromagnetic disturbance, if only intermittently?

At least it would explain why they can't reproduce the problem in the shop--different environment! But why? Or more precisely, what?

Sorry if my first post to MacRumors has to be so negative, but I REALLY wanted to believe this iMac was going to be an improvement over my old PC (my ever-so-quiet PC...for all it's other faults) and it makes no sense that this issue is so unique to my situation that Apple can deny any responsibility for fixing it--unless the source something unique to my environment (or maybe I'm really a superhero who gives off electromagnetic waves!)

I have ruled out fluorescent lights. On or off the noise persists.

Leads? Thoughts?

Yep. Start a new thread rather than adding (off topic) to a thread that ended over two years ago.

However the shop needs to replicate the condition of having it running for hours. They will hate to do that since it will take up space and time. Your complaint needs to be not that it buzzes but that it buzzes after it has been running for several hours running the diagnostic test.

Sorry--that was in error. I actually had started this elsewhere and don't know how it ended up being a reply to this thread. Too many windows open at once, I guess. I'll try to be good from now on.

Came from the Windows world, and this is my first MAC. I love it, so much better than the DELL XPS410 that I had. Everything about it is good, easy to understand, fast, efficient. and takes up less space that the tower version of this. I simply love it....everything about my iMac 27 inch....

I received my iMac yesterday, and so far so good.

I am very impressed as this is my first iMac.

i have not heard the fan come on, but there is some background noise form UPS etc in my office.

Screen is good, no image retention so far, but i did reduce the brightness to a comfortable level for my not so bright office.
