If I'm to buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter to be able to play my XBOX 360 on Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel) 1) Is this possible? and. 2) which Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter would I need?

Either a Dr Bott, an Atlona model or some variant. This thread has all the info you need... As long as you're using the original 27" LED display, and not the new 27" Thunderbolt display, of course.

does the kanex xd not work with the ACD (not a thunderbolt display, the ACD)

all the info i've found is confusing and contradictory

I have to say, this is ridiculous. The sleekest display in the world and so much hassle just connecting a device using hdmi?

So did anyone actually ever confirm. If the Atlona at-hd620 is worth the extra £100? I've recently b. A Dr Bott and TBH I'm not that happy with the image quality of the ps3 on such a high resolution screen. Did anyone ever do a comparison of the lower 720p boxes Vs the up scaling HD620?

Answers on a postcard.

All seems to have gone quiet on this. Has any company given an indication of possible products that would let you connect consoles and the like to a Thunderbolt-enabled Mac or Cinema Display?

As far as I know, black magic has an expensive real time video input device that takes HDMI in and sends it through thunderbolt.

This doesn't really help us at all, since it won't work under target display mode, but rather has a tiny video preview screen in adobe premiere or something similar. It's meant for video processing, not for playing games.

So no, there's nothing out yet. Kanex is working on working on something that would feed through as target display mode, but they say they are waiting for the public release of thunderbolt chips from Intel, so they haven't even started yet

----------

I think Apple should release an adapter. HDMI to thunderbolt. They could even charge outrageously for it.

C'mon, you know they have the team to pull it off. And the access to thunderbolt chips.

I don't think they will since I'm sure someone will do a cost benefit analysis and realize they won't make enough money off it... but that's frustrating since the lack of HDMI input that this product USED to have makes it feel like a broken product, something Apple usually tries not to release

Any updates?

Nope. If the iMac refresh (whenever that is...) has new support for display input, I might finally upgrade my late 2009 Core i7 iMac. If it doesn't, then I'll keep my iMac even longer! Crazy this hasn't been resolved yet by either third-party manufacturers or Apple themselves.

I still just don't understand why they didn't put an HDMI port on the back of the machine.

It couldn't have been because they wanted people to buy the Thunderbolt display as the exclusive extra monitor for the iMac... I've got another monitor hooked up to my iMac right now. It uses a mini displayport/DVI adapter.

We had better see some more devices with thunderbolt ports come out within the next few months, because after more than a year, I'm starting to get pissed.

Hey guys. I have an issue with the Atlona at-hd620. I've had it for a couple years now and it's always worked fine. Just recently I decided to try and use it for playing my xbox 360 on my iMac display which I have been in able to do in the past easily. For some reason, when I turn on the atlona, it doesn't do anything to my iMac's dsiplay. In the past it would automatically change it to a blue screen, waiting for me to turn my xbox 360 on. Now it won't even do that. I tried doing target display mode too and that doesn't do anything either.

I don't know what could be causing the device to not be working besides OSX Lion or the fact that I used my iMac as an external display with my macbook pro to play diablo3 on recently. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'll start with the obvious. You sure the displayport cable is in the right slot on the back of the Atlona? And that it's definitely plugged into the back of the iMac? If it is, try unplugging the cables and trying again.

ahaha. Right after I posted this I looked in the back and it was plugged in the wrong port. It was plugged in the in port, not the out. now i feel real dumb. anyways, thanks for the speedy response cause if I hadn't looked myself, this would have saved me.

Done the same thing myself with the in/out port. Glad it's working. :)

Any news on kanex cd update for thunderbolt ? starting to piss me of now

I don't think it will ever happen. Your best bet is to either pick up an older model or trade up to the supposed 2012 model that may/may not get announced next week if it has HDMI in. If it doesn't get announced/doesn't have HDMI in, the old model is your only choice. If THAT'S not an option, buy a TV.

Hey, just being honest. :)
