Just call apple care. I called apple and they were very nice. I think it helps that I am extremely patient and call all the nice women darling. They are allowing me to keep my 27" i7 for now and then return it at a later date. They also refunded $100 to my credit card.

I know it shouldn't happen, especially with apple and with a $2200 machine, but sometimes you have to be patient when you buy something as soon as it comes out.

I beg you, if you don't know the women personally, do not call them darling. Women get irritated if a stranger calls them names like darling, sweetie, sweet heart, toots.

Can't wait to see what sort of problems the maxiPad throws up on debut

I am on my second 27" i7 iMac and have just arranged a replacement for it. The first had lots of dead pixels and dirt on the inside of the screen. The second has a faulty CPU fan and makes a fast and loud clicking noise.

I am really not impressed with the quality of the computer but the Apple Customer Service has been very good.

flickering

i wonder if it's in any way similar to the 30" cinema display flickering issue that to my knowledge apple never did anything about... other than recommend something silly like 'make sure there are no high voltage power lines in the area.'

i have 6 30" displays, 2 in each of 3 offices throughout the country, and EVERY ONE OF THEM has almost daily flickering issues after about the 6th month of daily use. the first three i went through the trouble of returning for warranty work etc. all they did was give it back with a new power adaptor and 6 months later the problem returned.

fortunately all you have to do is unplug the main power plug for a couple seconds and the problem goes away until the next day...

i just live with the problem, since aside from that the displays are great. about a year of daily use and they start getting dim, though.
i can't wait for a 27" or 30" oled cinema display.

I'm amazed how well people are taking all of these problems. If only the whole world was like that. One thing is for sure, they are very loyal to Apple, and I'm not saying that as a negative, but clearly understand how annoying it must be for others when mac users start bashing other companies for the slightest things.

My 27" is fine. No cracks, no yellow tinge, no start up problems, no problems with video. It's reliable as I would expect.

I'm feeling a little left out. I need something to complain about, or else why have forums.

Oh, I know, Quicktime 10 is ****.

Happy now :)

+1 - same here. Zero, zilch, nada issues.

Somewhere in a not-so-distant land, a population of 53,000 people are tortured by the howling sounds of a furious overlord. His initials? S.J.

;)

Glad they're..somewhat correcting the problem. Need to repair the faulty ones, Apple.

I've held off reporting mine since the last software update, but alas, my screen still doth flicker.

Agreed

My first iMac had a very small flaw on the edge of the glass display, but not really noticeable. About a week later it just died. Replaced it at the Apple store and my second one had the flickering screen. Replaced it at the store again. I'm on my 3rd 27" iMac and have been trouble free for several months. Hope it stays this way!

Is anyone actually reading that internal memo by Apple, or at least reading past the first line?

It says for people that have yellow tint issues, DO NOT schedule a repair at this time, but take their contact info for a replacement to be done in 3 weeks.

The Apple Store lists the 27" to be shipped in 3 weeks. Sounds like Apple has a solution, but they need 3 weeks to get things sorted out and start fixing it.

Hey.

Ordered a i7 27" 2 days ago. And now i see this message. Hope i will get one of the new versions, but as the message looks like, i guess there might be a delay on my order? :S

From Kehaan

I ordered one for my wife on the 8th of January, with an original delivery date of the 28th. It was delayed until the 12th of this month but then suddenly shipped out, and it was delivered today! Guess we'll see if we got a good one or not tonight. (fingers crossed!)

WOW Apple Q&A is seriously out of control  ..... I seriously pray that they take their time with the Mac Pros and Notebooks. I would rather wait till mid March or early april to get new Mac Pros and Notebooks then to have them rush prototypes out to us, like they did with the iMac

If you read the Gizmondo article, you'll see that the issue most likely causing yellowing and other problems isn't happening during manufacturing, but the rough handling during shipment. You could argue that Apple made these 27" iMacs too fragile if this is the case.

I ordered two 27" i7's the first week of January. They just arrived today. FedEx tracking show they shipped directly from China. So, far no problems with the screens (knock on wood.)

I rated this story both positive and negative. It's positive because it sounds like Apple is taking strong measures to get this fixed. It's negative because it never should have happened. These issues should have been discovered and fixed before the machines were released to the public.

Interoffice Memo:

From the desk of Steve Jobs:

I want the Engineer who designed this and the Engineer who checked this in my office right now!

It won't be a cookies and tea session with Steve either.

Of course I'm not the only one, but I knew I was right about the delay being due to Apple fixing the issues. Just ridiculous how some people here said the delay was due to Apple fulfilling reseller orders.

That being said, my i7 just arrived 15 minutes ago and I'm about to open the carton and check it out. Will report back. Not taking any screenshots. I'm not getting caught up with people judging my screen and giving mixed opinions.

I've see ver few models yet where i work, but they all looks ok. I hope, if it is true, that Apple is working hard to fix it.

Best Buy currently lists the 27'' as Sold Out on their web site.

Yeah I noticed that 2 weeks ago the store I got mine from in Gainesville usually always have at least 8 on hand at a time because they sell 40-50 units a week has been out of stock. A friend of mine was looking to get one and the closet store that had one in stock was a few hours away. They were getting in short supply.

I wonder what the inventory looks like in Apple Retail stores.

Glad this is getting what seems to be a permanent fix. I'm one of the lucky ones who got one in December with zero issues, but it sucks to watch people scared to buy what is otherwise an amazing machine.

I do truly wonder what the percentage of "afflicted" machines is. Is it on the high end of what would be considered "normal" failure rates, or was it more of an "Xbox 360, 50% failure rate" type thing?
