Come on Apple, really $999 for a 27 inch display??? I know that you are used to having a huge profit margin, but I think the shaft is a little to big for the hole this time. If it's not antiglare display than it's not worth it.

You do understand you're getting a H-IPS panel that runs a native resolution of 2560x1440 at that price right and that the equivalent Dell display is similarly priced ?

This isn't a 1920x1200 27" with fischer price sized pixels.

So is the 1st of October in the UK roughly when the 27" display actually starts getting delivered?

I am still waiting for my iMac and everything to arrive :(

Confirmed here, I have a "pending" charge for the right amount from Apple Computer on my card this morning. No change to the shipping status, though.

It'd be nice if it went out today, so I'd have some time to fiddle with it this weekend. Ah, well, here's hoping... And expecting to have hopes dashed. lol

Hey, some people pay several hundred dollars for sunglasses, several hundred thousand dollars on cars. Why not $999 for a 27" computer screen?

Uh, you do understand that contrary to most designer sunglasses, Apple actually offers something for the 999$ they charge you. Again comparable monitors are comparably priced.

Same here. I ordered one for my Dad for Christmas and its killing me not to get one for myself. I have roughly 14 or 15 terabytes of movies on my desktop (and several externals plugged into the desktop) that would LOVE an Apple TV to compliment them.

Cripes, it's only 100 bucks. That's a fraction of the worth of your (certainly legal) collection of movies.

The Roku box still looks like a better value at this point. I'll give it another year before I dive in. The apps on apple tv look promising. Xbox 360 + Netflix + Hulu on one TV is enough for me at this point.

Lol! I promise they are all actually legal. I rip the full disk and keep it along side a conversion (Hence the super large file sizes). The cheap way to get tons of movies is to go for the bargin bins at the video rental stores and such :)

Backing them all up paid off because 3/4s of them were stolen :(

debit card charged

wahoo! i paid with debit card when I ordered back on 9/4, so surprised to hear that folks were charged when they purchased. mine was charged today.

Finally got mine this morning (30th), and it's... magnetic???

Woohoo! The "first 27" LED cinema display to ship on the west coast" (according to Apple) has arrived! Took it home from the bookstore today, and I've been enjoying it's looks (and :apple: smell) for the last few... er several... hours.
No really, the new apple smell is just pouring off of this thing like cat nip.

These measurements are exactomundo* (for unit conversions, I recommend WolframAlpha.com):
*to the nearest 1/32 of an inch

Total width = 25 21/32"
Total height (with stand, display vertical) = 19 5/16"
Max height (with stand, display tilted back) = 19 13/32"
Frame height (no stand) = 15 5/8"
Stand width (widest point) = 7 3/8"
Stand width (at heel) = 6"
Stand width (neck) = 12 13/16"
Stand height = 11 3/4"
Stand thickness (front) = 1/16"
Stand thickness (at heel) = 3/8"
Black border (all sides) = 1 1/16"
Frame diagonal = 29 9/16"
Pixel diagonal = 27" exactly as far as I can tell

Total depth (heel to toe*, display vertical) = 8 1/8"
(toe sticks about 2 3/8" out from front of display)
Max depth (heel to chin*, display tilted back) = 8 9/16"
Standard depth (heel to face, display vertical) = 5 3/4"
Frame edge depth = 3/4" Al + 1/16" SiO2 = 13/16"
Frame depth = 2"

Cable lengths:
Combo-cable (not removable) = 49" base to tips
Combo-cable (squid end) = 11 5/8" to tips, 11 1/4" (minus metal parts of plugs)
(all 3 are the same length, I think the power one should be shorter to avoid awkwardness)
Max practical distance to left side of macbook to left side of display = 26" (28 1/2" **not threaded through hole)
(tension on USB cable)

Max practical distance from left side of macbook to right side of display = 29 1/4" (32" **)
(before tension on power cable pulls it out)
(not using power cable = 31 1/2 (33 3/4))

Power cable (removable, flanged, standard PC plug): 73" to base of prongs
(71.5" to hole in stand)

Hole Diameter: 2"
Bottom edge of hole in stand = 5 1/2" off surface

USB locations:
From right edge (center of first port) = 4 5/8"
From bottom edge (to centerline) = 2 11/32"
USB spacing = 5/8 (o.c.)

Max forward tilt: approx 5º
Max rearward tilt: approx 20º

Viewing angles (extremely approximate)
max discoloration: about 89º (horiz), 80º(vert) from center
med discoloration: about 45º (horiz), 30º(vert) from center
min discoloration: about 30º (horiz), 15º(vert) from center

And curiously, there are some strong magnets located under the black bezel:
6 across top
4 across bottom
3 down the left side
3 down the right side

If anyones interested mine finally got prepared for shipping on Thursday and went out Yesterday, the first to ship within Canada, I'm guessing, however I have a feeling the billing information only got sent and not actually sent out from Apple, shame. :(
